Chapter 14 - Hazel

They hadn't walked very far before it started to get dark. There was no sign of any civilization whatsoever. Hazel's feet were throbbing from walking. The only thing that kept her moving was Frank's hand in hers.

Leo was the first one to break the silence.

"So, should we start looking for wood now?" He asked.

"In a minute." Frank said. "There has to be some form of life somewhere around here."

Leo nodded and returned back to fumbling with his fingers. The silence returned.

Fog clouded around them and Hazel fought the urge to start coughing. The fog was so thick that she could barely see two feet in front of her.

She wondered of Percy and Celeste had had any luck finding civilization yet.

She also wondered if the fog was bothering them as well.

She was snapped out of her thoughts when Frank squeezed her hand.

"Did you hear that?" He asked.

A cackling noise arose from the fog and the three of them ducked behind a large rock.

Hazel tried to peek over the edge of the rock to see what was making the noise, but Frank pushed her down, shaking his head and motioning for her to stay low.

All three of them were deadly silent. No one dared to speak.

Footsteps sounded close by. Large footsteps.

"A giant?" Hazel thought. But she wasn't sure.

Despite Frank's warnings, she snuck a peek over the rock. Her eyes widened at what she saw. It was a giant. She didn't know which one, but she didn't care, it was a giant one way or another.

Draped over the giant's shoulder was Annabeth, Piper, and Jason. They were all limp and unmoving.

"Frank." Hazel whispered harshly.

Frank turned his head to her and pulled her down. Hazel didn't realize she was standing.

"What's wrong? What did you see?" He asked.

"A giant. He's got Piper, Jason, and Annabeth." Hazel said.

Frank went pale. Leo looked just as nervous.

"Are you sure?" Leo asked.

Hazel nodded.

"We have to help them." Hazel inquired.

"But we can't defeat a giant without a god though." Frank said.

"But remember Alaska? We defeated a giant there, without a god." Hazel said.

Frank shook his head. "No that was different. We need a god now."

"Maybe we should get Percy and Celeste before we do anything." Leo suggested.

"No. They'll be too far by now and we need to help Annabeth, Jason, and Piper before they're killed." Frank said.

The three of them agreed. They would have to stay here and fight.

Suddenly, Hazel heard the giant's footsteps getting closer. She pulled Frank closer to her.

Then, the giant stopped. "Demigods." He said. He dropped Annabeth, Jason, and Piper onto the ground. Hazel heard a sickening crack and thought that one of them must have broken a bone while falling. She held in her fear, hoping that she was wrong.

The giant moved closer to where Leo, Frank, and Hazel were hiding. Frank pulled out his bow, Leo pulled out a hammer, and Hazel pulled out a dagger.

Her fingers were trembling and her legs were shaking. She was glad Leo and Frank were there with her.

All of a sudden, Hazel looked up and she saw the giant standing right above her. She knew which giant it was now.

It was Enceladus. The anti-Athena. No wonder he was treating Annabeth with the most harm. She had looked more hurt then the others did.

"I knew I smelt demigods." The giant grinned. Frank shot an arrow and the three of them scrambled into different directions.

Whenever the giant got close to her, she stabbed down with her dagger, causing the giant to wince, but not die.

They couldn't do this alone.

She screamed for help, but she had no idea who she was screaming to.

Then, her head hit something hard and she fell into darkness.
