Chapter 15 (Part 2)
"We're what?!" Nico exclaimed. "I didn't agree to this!"
"I know, I know, I'm sorry. I had to make Chiron think I was going to my mom's! He never would let me go to the Underworld after what happened!" I spilled out.
"And he's completely right not to! Mira, this is crazy!" He argued.
"I know, but please, Nico. I need to do this," I pleaded, feeling my eyes start to burn with unshed tears. Nico sighed, shoulders slumping in defeat.
"Chiron will kill me if he ever finds out, so this stays between you and me. And I'm only doing this because I know you need to get it out of your system, and I don't want you to resort to dragging me into helping you summon ghosts or something," he digressed, eyes darkening.
"Deal," I agreed immediately. He held out his hand, already seeming to regret his decision. I happily took his hand and was swallowed by darkness.
After a minute the pressure of hurtling through space lifted, but it was still dark. I blinked as my eyes adjusted to the dim lighting of the Underworld.
"Come on," Nico said impatiently. He'd already dropped my hand and was walking towards the dark palace ahead. I gulped audibly. This place was majorly creepy. I hurried to catch up to him, standing slightly behind him nervously. He shook his head in disbelief. "I can't believe you dragged me into this and you're scared."
"I'm not scared! I've just never been here before. It's creepy as hell," I argued.
"That's because it is hell, idiota," he murmured. I almost laughed.
"Oh yeah, right."
He rolled his eyes at the palace doors swung open, welcoming the Prince of the Underworld back. He stepped in confidently while I followed behind quickly.
"Father," Nico said lowly.
"Niccolo," I heard the god say, appearing from the shadows. Nico rolled his eyes, mumbling how much he hated that name. "What brings you here?" Hades asked, though by the way he looked at me I could tell he already knew.
Suddenly I was mad. No, furious. This was who had taken Jake away from me. I found myself in front of Nico, fists clenched.
"You did this! He's gone because of you!" I yelled at the god. Probably not the best choice, thinking back on it, but hey, I'm impulsive.
"I am sure I have no idea what you are talking about," Hades smirked. His eyes flashed, telling me a different story from his teasing tone.
"Don't play dumb with me! He's dead because of you!" I shouted. I felt Nico's hand clamp firmly on my shoulder, trying to pull me back, but I stood firm.
"I did nothing," Hades stated, sitting upon his creepy throne. I yelled in frustration, and this time Nico managed to pull me back, forcing me behind him as I screamed profanities, demanding that Jake be brought back. I didn't realize I was crying until Nico was hugging me. I sobbed into his shoulder as he turned me away from his father. My knees buckled and I crumbled to the ground, broken and defeated.
"Just let her talk to him," Nico asked on my behalf.
"Why should I?" Hades challenged childishly.
"I never ask anything of you. Just do this one thing for her," Nico reasoned. There was a moment of silence before the cold presence of the god disappeared, replaced with a much warmer one.
"Mira," I heard his voice. My breath hitched in my throat and I spun around, getting to my feet in one swift move.
"Jake," I breathed. The image of him smiled warmly.
"Hello again, love."
