There's a Good Reason Why I Hate Mummies

By the time I woke up the next morning, Percy was already gone. I frowned a bit, "Couldn't even say goodbye." I said, shaking my head. I stood up and got ready for the day.

As I walked down to breakfast a lot of people gave me sympathetic looks and a few Ares campers even added a Good Riddance. But, as much as I was glad to be alone again, it felt weird. I almost missed Percy's dumb questions during breakfast, and during sword practice, even Luke seemed a little off.

The two of us were sparring against one another, and strangely, Luke seemed a lot more agitated and angrier than usual. I tried to block one of his blows with my trident when suddenly he jerked his sword upwards, causing my trident to fly out of my hands. I hissed in pain as I felt his sword slash my forearm. "You can't rely on defensive strategies forever Hana," He said coldly. "If you continue to do so you'll never survive what's coming." He said, turning his back to me and walking away. He left me there bleeding and extremely confused.

During arts and crafts I fiddled with my bandages as I listened to the Aphrodite kids talk about how cute the other campers were. It was a little annoying, but I wasn't going to say anything because it made them happy. I jumped when I felt someone put a hand on my shoulder. "You okay Hana?" Silena asked. I nodded.

"Have you noticed that Luke's been acting weird the past couple of days?" I asked, rubbing my arm.

Silena sighed. "It's not his fault, you remember what happened the last time someone at camp got a quest. He's probably just worried about Annabeth Grover and Percy." She said, patting my head.

"That must be it." I said quietly, although I wasn't so sure.

After lunch I had some free time, and I was still extremely confused by what Luke had said. I had been wracking my brains since then. But I still couldn't figure it out. Finally, after a long enteral debate, I decided to ask someone who might know, although I'm not sure the answer I would get. I slowly made my way up to the Big House Attic. Now, normally I wouldn't be doing this, the Oracle creeped me out to no extent, but what Luke said really had me worried. Once I got there I walked over to the Oracle. "Uh, hi. Yeah, I've got a question for ya. What's coming that I should be worried about?" I asked, but I didn't get a response. "Hello?" I asked. Still nothing. I sighed. "Figures. Apollo doesn't even know I exist, why would he answer my questions." I grumbled walking towards the door. However the second my hand touched the doorknob my legs gave out from under me, the world fading into black.

I panted heavily as I ran through the snowy landscape. I clutched Papa's hat tightly in my hands. He was gone. Doffy has killed him. Law was gone too. I ran until I came to a large cliff over looking the ocean. It may have been pretty if I wasn't so terrified. I suddenly heard a familiar laugh from behind me.

"Fufufufufufufu." I turned around to see Doffy walking towards me. He had a small cut on his forehead from where I struck him. "Now now, Hana, hitting me and running away like that wasn't very nice, was it?"

I scrambled back and whimpered. "G-Go away!" I yelled, holding the hat close to my chest.

Doffy scowled at me. "I hoped it wouldn't come to this Hana. You could have been very useful to me." He said, raising a gun at me. I heard a gunshot ring out as I felt something rip through my arm. I screamed, dropping down to my knees as I heard even more gunshots. One. Two. Three. Four. Five. Six. Seven. He had shot me thirteen times before he lowered his gun. I collapsed in the cold snow, now stained bright red with my blood. I saw Doffy slowly walking towards me with a scowl. "The two of you are a lot alike, both useless." He said coldly, easily kicking me over the side of the cliff. I shut my eyes tightly, my world fading into black as my body hit the water with a loud splash.

I immediately sat up, recognizing the infirmary around me. My head was killing me as a single word seemed to ring in my ears. Doffy. I shook my head, trying to sit up. "What are you doing Hana?! Lay back down." I heard Michael Yew say.

"What's going on?" I asked, my voice extremely gravelly, like I hadn't had any water in days.

He sighed. "You had another blackout. You've been out for almost three days." He said. I looked up at him in absolute shock. "What?" I asked in disbelief. Michael nodded.

"Luke found you upstairs in the attic. You had collapsed. We couldn't get you out of it." He said. I blinked a bit.

"What happened? Did I say anything?" I asked. He shook his head.

"No, you didn't." He said. I looked up at him.

"Is Mr. D back?" I asked.

Michael nodded. "He's playing cards with Chiron as usual."

I slowly stood up and winced. Michael ran over to help me sit back down. "You need to rest."

"No, I need to talk to Mr. D." I said, getting back up. He sighed and helped me walk over to the door. I opened it up to see a strange looking man with literally eyes all over his body. I immediately slammed it back shut again and stumbled backwards away from the door. "What in the name of Olympus was that?" I asked  who laughed.

"I see you met Argus." He said with a chuckle.

"Who?" I asked. He opened up the door and let the thing in.

"Hana, meet Argus. Argus, I assume you already know who Hana is." Michael said with a smile. Argus nodded to me. I slowly inched my way towards the door, making sure to stay as far away from Argus as I could. As soon as I was out the door I hear Michael begin to cackle as I made a beeline for the front deck.

As soon as I got there Chiron turned to me. "Hana, you're awake—" "Who's Doffy?" I cut Chiron off, looking at Mr. D. The wine god looked at me in shock, setting down his cards slowly.

"Where did you hear that?" He asked. Chiron looked extremely uncomfortable.

"My latest vision. The only thing I remembered was Doffy.... so, who is he? Is he the guy who tried to kill me?" I asked, no, I demanded. Chiron sighed.

"We knew this day would come, but we didn't know it would come so soon...." he said, looking at me sadly.

"What are you taking about?" I asked. Chiron sighed and gestured for me to sit, which I did. "We unfortunately are still very much in the dark on most of your birth and upbringing. What we do know is two things. One of them involves the mark on your back."

"My birthmark?" I asked. On the middle of my back there was a large mark that looked like some weird type of claw. Chiron and Mr. D exchanged a look.

"Hana, that's not a birthmark. It's a brand, and a very old one at that. In all my years of training heroes I have never seen it in person until the day you came to Camp." Chiron explained.

"Somebody branded me? When? Why?" I asked, trying to process what was happening.

"The mark itself is called the Hoof of the Sky Dragon, and it's used to mark slaves." Mr. D said, rather coldly.

I felt my jaw drop. "What?"

"It means that once upon a time Hana, you were once a slave." Mr. D said, leaving me in shock. "And the Doffy you mentioned before. His real name is Donquixote Doflamingo. He was most like your master." I sat there for a few minutes just to try and comprehend what was just said.

"I know it's a lot to take in, dear." Chiron said, putting his hand on my shoulder.

"Is.....is that why I don't have a last name?" I asked, looking up at them.

Chiron sighed. "As I said before, there's still much we don't know about your life before Poseidon brought you here."

I thought for a minute. "I guess that explains a lot huh." I said quietly.

Chiron sighed. "It's about dinner time, why don't you head to the dining pavilion. I nodded and stood up, walking to the dining pavilion.
