The Talking Dolphin Was The Highlight of My Day

After my talk with Mr. D and Chiron, I was definitely feeling more confused about my past as before. I didn't bother going to breakfast the next morning, I barely got any sleep the night before.

I was sitting down on the beach, my feet in the water. This was definitely my favorite place to come and think. I was trying to think of anything but what I had been told, but no matter what my mind immediately went back to it. I growled, splashing at the water as I stood up. As soon as I did I heard some soft gurgling coming from the water. I looked down to see a nereid looking back up at me. "Oh, I'm sorry, did I disturb you?" I asked. The nereid shook her head.

"It's okay. It's just, there's a lost sea serpent who's been causing us some trouble. I was curious if you would help us, considering you are a daughter of Poseidon and all." She asked.

I nodded. "Sure." I immediately jumped into the water.

The nereid, who I learned her name was Alethea, lead me down to where her sisters were. They were floating around a cave that had kelp curtains and a sea cucumber garden out front. "Nice place." I said, making Alethea smile.

"It would be nicer if someone could get that damn serpent out of it." She grumbled. I nodded, grabbing my trident clip from my hair before slowly making my way to the kelp curtain door. I pulled it open and looked around inside.

"Here Serpenty-serpenty-serpent." I said quietly looking around. Eventually I found what had kicked the nereids out of their home. It was about thirty feet long from what I could tell. Its scales were white with pink splotches and a yellow underbelly. On top of its head was a strange skull that it appeared to be wearing as a hat, with a strange blue fur coming out of the back of the skull and the weirdest thing of all, the serpent looked to be smiling. "Hey there friendo. Sorry but I'm gonna have to have you leave so the nice nereids can get some sleep." I said, slowly walking towards it. The serpent tilted its head to look at me. "Come on bud-AHH!" I let out a scream as the serpent pounced towards me, wrapping around me tightly. I struggled to get away, terrified it was going to kill me when I realized something, the creature was nuzzling me. Yeah it was wrapped around me, but it wasn't uncomfortable. More like a hug. "Well hello to you too." I said with a smile. The nereids stuck their heads through the curtains to look at me. I waved. "Don't worry, I've got this under control-EEEEP! I screeched, feeling the serpent biting off a huge chunk of my hair and immediately letting me go. It quickly began to swim out of the cave. "Hey?! Get back here!" I said, willing the water to push me after the serpent. The nereids called after me but I ignored them, trying to catch up with that serpent. Why in gods name did it take a chunk of my hair? Unfortunately I wasn't able to figure that out because I slammed right into a gray sea creature. "Ow. What the Hades?" I grumbled, rubbing my nose. I heard the dolphin chatter in response, but I immediately understood it.

I'm terribly sorry Hana. But you cannot go further than this point. Its voice said in my head.

I was shocked. "You know my name?!"

The dolphin nodded. My name is Delphin. I am one of your father's closest attendants.

"Right. Sorry, I didn't realize how far I was from Camp." I said, rubbing my neck. I looked around in the water around me, which was quiet and still. "So, were you just here waiting for me or what?" I asked. Delphin made a sound that seemed to be laughter.

No child. Although your father was alerted to your presence as soon as you set foot in the water. He then sent me. He explained. Now, let's get you back to Camp. Grab hold of my fin.

I did as I was told and we immediately started moving at extreme speeds. We reached the beach in no time. As I got out of the water I noticed how dark it was outside. I turned back to Delphin, giving him a polite bow. "Thank you Lord Delphin." The dolphin gave me a nod before turning around and swimming away. I went back to my cabin to change into some dry clothes.

When I was in some dry pajamas I finally got a look at my hair. There was a large chunk missing from the back of it. "Why would it do that?" I asked myself. It definitely looked weird so I looked around for a pair of scissors. Eventually I found a pair. I grabbed them in my right hand and a chunk of hair in my left. I slowly and carefully began to cut my hair. Once I was done I looked at my handiwork. It was in a short bob cut, a very big change from the long braids that I kept it in usually. I smiled and then crawled into bed, ready to get some sleep.
