Epilogue: This Is It
No one saves me that day.
The funeral was sad. It didn't rain nor snow, it was a bright as the girl who died. I should know, I watched. Everyone was there: Artemiss, Robin, Aqualad, M'gann, Clark Kent, some people from school, and Doctor Fate.
People cried surprisingly. I didn't expect anyone to cry, but people did. Even some people I barely knew. I guess that's what you do when people die: you cry, right? I wasn't crying anymore. I felt... At peace. Finally, the pit in my stomach was gone.
"I'm sorry I could never help you," Doctor Fate placed at hand on my silver casket, "My daughter of light."
Other people said different things. Some left flowers and others said something. The service after had all my favorite foods, but not everyone ate. Wally kept my headband. I wasn't sure if it was for a souvenir or a keepsake, but I was happy he did anyways.
A few days later someone else visited my grave. A boy in a red hoodie and dirty jeans placed a hand on my headstone. A few tears were shed, but I couldn't watch. I knew who it was.
I watched for awhile, years even. People grew up and over my death. M'gann cut her hair. Conner was going to go to collage. Artemiss and Wally gave up the super hero life. Robin became Nightwing. Molten disappeared, never saw again. I guess he was a one-hit-wonder.
What happened to Seth? I don't know. Never stayed long enough to figure it out. I just didn't care anymore. I was happy to paint to skies with sunsets and sunrises. My sunset had come, but more will rise, the day will go on. Maybe you'll be the next sunrise, the next hero.
Become a hero. You don't have to save everybody, or anyone, in fact, all you need to do is save one person: yourself. That's all you need to do to be a hero.
