Chapter Two

I knew that the boy wouldn't be hurt, but they didn't know that. Beaver leads us back to his house, but just as we get there, I hear something.

"Wolves." I say grimly. "What do you mean?" Peter asks. "I can hear them. Perk of being a narnian. We must hurry."

We run back to the Beavers home. Mrs Beaver is shocked to see us. "Quick." I say. The beaver reach for food, shoving it into a sack.

"Do you think we'll need jam?" Asks Susan. I roll my eyes. "Only if the witch serves toast!" Says Peter. That makes me smile.

Beaver opens a door to a tunnel and we all get in. "Had this dug a while ago, comes out near Badger's place" Beaver says. "You told me it led to your mum's!"

Lucy trips and I help her up. We all pause as we hear the wolfish growls getting closer. "They're in the tunnels." She whispers.

I pull her up and we continue running. Reaching the end of the tunnel, we climb out. Beaver and Peter roll a barrel up against the entrance.

I step back and look around, horror dawning on my face as I see the frozen shapes. "He was my best mate." Beaver says dejectedly. I sigh and place my hand on the frozen figure of Badger.

"This is what happens to those who cross the white witch" comes a voice. I whirl around, teeth lengthening as a fox steps out of the shadows.

"Come any closer, traitor, and I'll chew you to splinters." growls Beaver. "Leave. Now." I say menacingly.

"Relax. I'm one of the good guys." He chuckles. "Yeah? Well, you look an awful lot like one of the bad ones." Beaver says back.

"An unfortunate family resemblance, but we can discuss family breeding later. Right now we need to move.

"What do you suggest?" Peter says as the wolves sounds get closer and closer. He looks up. I nod. "Come." I pick up Lucy and put her in the tree. "Climb." I scamper up in the form of a cat.

"Woah." I hear. I smile to myself. Up in the tree, I transform back into my human form. "Come on." I say, hoisting Susan into the tree and climbing higher.

We sit in the tree and wait in silence for the wolves to appear. With a loud crack, they break through the barrels and surround the fox. "Evening gents, did we lose something?" The big one growls. "Don't patronize me, I know where your allegiance lies. We are looking for some humans."

"Humans, in Narnia? Now, that's some valuable information." "Where are they?!?!?" The wolf yells and one of the others grabs him with his teeth, biting into his skin. I wince and Lucy gasps.

"They, they were heading north." He says. "Quickly, smell them out." The wolves take off and I quickly make my way out of the tree and kneel beside the fox. "Thank you." I say.

He winces and we set a fire so Mrs. Beaver can patch him up. "are you alright?" Lucy asks. I smile at her concern. "Well, I wish I could say their bark was worse than their bite." I smile softly at that then catch myself. I have not smiled this much in a very long time.

"Stop squirming, you're worse than beaver on bath day." Mrs Beaver says. "Worst day of the year." He mutters and we all share a smile at that. "Well, i'm afraid that's all the healing I have time for." The fox says, standing up. "You're leaving?" Susan asks. "Its been a pleasure my queen, and an honor. I have been asked by aslan himself to gather more troops.

"You've seen aslan?." "Whats he like?" The beavers say. "Like everything we've ever heard. He'll be a good help fighting the white witch." I sigh, turning away. I know I am also wanted by Aslan to recruit someone else.

I stand, pulling my cloak about my shoulders. "I must go as well. It was good to see you once more, Mr and Mrs Beaver, but I can accompany you no more. I look at all of them, especially peter. "Do not worry."

I swiftly transform and take flight as a snowy owl. It is time to visit my father.
