Act 1.... A Meeting With The Residents

At the instruction of Ms. Charlie, I stepped through the threshold of the infamous Hotel that I had caught wind of during my travels, completely breathless by the wonderful interior as I looked around excitedly. The door was closed behind me, and I turned to find the Demon Princess herself slowly coming towards me, like a kitten that doesn't quite trust people. She was very shy, for someone in such a high position, but nonetheless kind of heart as she asked, "Why don't we start off with..... Umm..... A tiny question? Like you're name?" "My name? OH! Pardon me, I've been speaking to you this whole time and never put a name to the face." I laughed, and I held out my hand for her to shake as I replied, "I'm Jessabelle, but you're free to call me Jessie or Jess if you so desire." "Oh, what a gorgeous name!" Ms. Charlie replied, timidly shaking my hand before venturing, "Why don't you tell us a bit about who you are, Jessie?" "I come from Limbo, WAAAAY out there on the Pentagram- see I was born there and raised by my mother!" "M-Mother?!" Ms. Charlie and the Demon behind her gasped in shock, and I simply nodded as I went on, "My mother, curse her soul, was a kindly and fair Demon from her glinting raven ram horns to her sense of fashion! I was devastated upon her passing..... Was only Fifteen when she did....." "W-Wow.... I'm sorry to hear that..." Ms. Charlie consoled, and I raised a hand to stop her as I said, "Thank you, but you shouldn't talk like I'm the only one left in my family. In fact, that's the whole reason I've come to your door!" "Really?" "Of course! See, after my mother passed I've been wandering Tartarus to find my estranged Father- ever so curious about the man he TRULY was. Nobody dared to hurt me, though, because my appearance scared them witless, as rude as it was. It took a frightfully long time, three years to be exact since I'm Eighteen now, and nearly lost hope in finding my dear daddy when I heard of a certain Hotel in the Pride Ring, and came running!" I replied, a hopeful, happy smile on my face. "J-Just one, FINAL question for you, sweets." The male Demon behind Ms. Charlie began, catching our attention as he asked, "Who IS your dad?" "Well if my appearance doesn't give it away, perhaps you've caught wind of his name. Alastor? "The Radio Demon" as many know him as? He's only one of the most powerful Overlords in all of oblivion!" "Thought as much...." the Demon laughed nervously, and Ms. Charlie's jaw nearly hit the floor it dropped so wide! "Wait, wait! THE Alastor? THE radio Demon?!" She questioned, and I nodded in confirmation. Her and the Demon exchanged glances, and Ms. Charlie quickly excused herself while the male Demon quickly sat me on a sofa in the lobby before going back to work. The colourful tiny Demon that answered the door earlier came into the room, and I immediately felt sorry for frightening her so earlier. "E-Excuse me, Miss?" I called, getting her attention, and when she saw me, she pressed her back against the wall as her beautiful eye flooded with fear. "Y-YOU LET THE MIMIC IN?!" She cried, her breathing becoming heavy, and I reeled back in confusion as I replied, "A "Mimic"? No, dear, you have me mistaken for a monster! I'm simply here to look for my Father. Maybe you've heard of Alastor?" I was hopeful to learn SOMETHING about him from SOMEONE who knows. The tiny thing shook her head, and pouted her lip as she replied, "Uh-uh! No WAY! I know boss and he has NO family but us, right Husk?" Shocked, and a bit saddened, I looked up at the Demon bartender in hopes that he'd tell her different, but he simply sighed before shrugging. "You mean to say daddy's NEVER spoke of me?" I asked, my heart breaking slowly. "Kid," the bartender, Husk as the little one reffered him as, began in a soft and uncertain tone, "I don't even think that sleaze knows you even EXIST." "B-But he MUST! Mother knew so much about him, and she wasn't even MARRIED to the man! How could Father not know about her, or ME?" "You're mom wasn't married to the guy? How'd you come to be, then?" Husk asked, curious. "My Mother and Father met in a bar, and went home together. The next morning she awoke to find him gone, and no note. Then she had me!" I explained. Husk and the tiny Demon stared on in disbelief, glancing at each other before putting their glance back onto me. "That's a heck of a backstory...." the tiny one began after a while, rubbing her arm awkwardly. "Nifty, that ain't nice to say. I'm truly sorry that you're having to go through this, kiddo. For your sake I hope he's what you've dreamt of." Husk replied, popping the cork on a bottle of gin before taking a deep swig of it. "I-I hope so too.... He's going to be REALLY confused, but after the questions are answered, I'm sure we can settle right into the "Father and Daughter" narrative." I replied, becoming a bit more confident, and furthermore excited to finally meet the man who gave me life! I heard murmurs and muttering coming from a hall above us, and I quickly stood as Ms. Charlie entered the room with a man, strikingly familiar to how I look! It HAD to be Alastor! "Come now my dear," He said to her, a yellowed smile across his lips, "who could I have relations to in this-" He stopped as Ms. Charlie pointed down a balcony, and for the first time, he had fixed his gaze upon me. He was shocked- his eyes gave him away, but I clung to the hope that the smile he held was genuine as I cupped my hands to my mouth. "Oh, my...." I gasped, trembling at the sight of him, but not in terror of course. Everything my mother described of him was ACCURATE, from his gorgeous, crimson eyes to his dapper dress! His antlers were tinier than she described, but they were still like a brilliant crown on his head! He had the air of an overlord just by looking at him, and my eyes welled up as I moved my cupped hands from my mouth to my chest. "D-Dad...? Is it really, TRULY you?" I asked, trying to refrain from sobbing as I continued to stare on at him. "I don't know about "Dad", but I did hear of someone who looked like myself inquiring my whereabouts. What is your name, if I may?" He began in a staticy voice, almost like he was hosting a radio broadcast at current! "J-Jessabelle, sir. It's a pleasure to finally see you-MEET I mean!" I replied, as the two decended the steps. "And it's a pleasure to meet you as well, my dear! Such pleasant manners for a young Demon such as yourself." He replied, shaking my hand. The first contact I had with my father ever, and my mind was surging with so many questions for him, and joy overflowed my heart as I pulled him into my embrace. Catching him off gaurd seemingly, I began to sob, "You've been gone for SO long, and mummy and I missed you bunches! I'm glad to have finally found you!" He squirmed his way out from my embrace, flustered but still trying to maintain calm as he began, "My child, you must be mistaken! I don't have a spouse or known children ANYWHERE in this place of endless suffering and despair." "That you KNEW about. Come! Bring everyone and let us sit; I'll tell you everything you've missed or forgotten." I said, taking his arm much to his shock, and with all the strength I could muster, pulled my long lost Father along behind me towards a lounge. Husk, the small Demon- who I learned was "Nifty", Ms. Charlie, and the few inhabitants I haven't met with all gathered into the room behind us. They all looked at my dad and I with wide eyes, expecting an explanation I'm sure! I seated my dad in a cushion chair  gently, and quickly stood in the center before the audience as I began, "Hello residents of Ms. Charlie's "Hazbin Hotel"! My name is Jessabelle- you may refer to me as Jess, or Jessie if you so please, and my father, as you may recognize from my features, is none other than the overlord you know as "Alastor"! I'm SO happy to meet his friends, and furthermore his protectors and hostess." I gratefully bowed to the group before me, and I could hear a few gasps and whispers fill the room. "You're a bold faced LIAR. Alastor doesn't even let anyone HERE so much as FLIRT with him, but to go the distance of knocking up a random lady and ghosting her?" One of the residents scoffed rudely. I felt a twinge of anger when they said such harsh words, but I refrained from losing my temper as I calmy replied, "It was long ago. My mother's name was Kristine- a lovely Demon with ram horns the colour of obsidian curling from her luscious, silver hair, and she was a delicate rose of a woman. Do you remember a lady like that, dad?" I asked, looking over at the famous Demon who spawned me. He cocked his head sideways, and raised a brow to me as he kept his unwavering smile. "I'll continue..." I said again, turning back to the crowd, "It was a beautiful story of love at first blight. My mum was in a bar in the Envy Ring with her friends Lynn and Fuschia- see, they were twins and they lived in the Envy Ring. I've visited them a few times with her, and I came to love the personality they had with their jealous views and whatnot. She hadn't seen them in ages because she worked in the Greed Ring, and was frustrated that her Co-Workers would cash grab every pay check from tyrannical Tycoons; leaving her with hardly a dime to pay for a simply loaf of Bone Wheat Bread!" "Blech!" My Father replied, his smile contorting a little to match the disgust in his eyes. "You as well?" I asked, turning to him, "Figures. Mummy always DID say we had the same tastes! Anyway, to get her mind off her troubles, she met them at the bar where they drank and had a good time talking in a booth when everyone in the bar began to dote and fawn over something at the entrance. While my aunties were fighting over a boy, my mum grew curious about the crowd; slipping away from them long enough to see the commotion, her heart stopped again in it's tracks. There, in the middle of the doting crowd of men and women, stood my father-though she didn't know who he was at the time, and she was still a bit sober to talk a decent conversation. My dad dispersed the crowd, and felt eyes on him as he looked around! Eventually, his eyes fell upon my mother, and the two seemingly just clicked right there. He bought them drink after drink, and the two laughed and conversed- my father revealing he was an overlord, and my mother a model!" "Wait," Husk interrupted abruptly, "does your mom's last name happen to be Dubois?" "H-How did you guess?!" "I saw an article of her passing. It said she had a kid, but I never knew it was YOU! Such a shame, witnessing your mom die from an illness." He said, and my heart twinged as I thought of my mom on her second deathbed. "Same! I was heartstricken as well because I loved her fashion pieces. I'm SO sorry!" Ms. Charlie added. They knew my mother AND my father..... WHY are they just NOW figuring out about me? "So, Mr. Slime, you knocked up one of the most beautiful models in this entire joint, and you didn't even wife her? That's sorry." Husk snipped, looking towards my dad in disapproval as my dad narrowed his eyes at him. "If I HAD "Knocked up" a lady, I'd surely remember. And I'd KNOW if they were pregnant with my spawn!" He replied in a dark, defensive tone. "Not quite. You and mummy had so much to drink that you took her to a hotel in downtown Jealousy- the city just outside Covettville? It was there you told mum about your folks in life, and how you absolutely LOVED gram's, what was it? "Jamlayma"?" "Jumbaliah..." my father growled, his smile wavering again. "Bingo! She even made you some just the way you told her. After you two ate, you two shared a moment of romance, and the next morning you were gone. My mum looked everywhere, but she was devastated when she couldn't find you that she had to go to therapy. A couple months go by and she finds out she's having me, and she told her bosses. Dumbest mistake, in my opinion! She was thrown to the curb, and without being able to afford her rent, she moved in with my aunties. Stayed with them until I was three we did, and eventually my mummy made enough money at her new job as a waitress for us to settle in Limbo, and there I stayed until I was Fifteen, then I set out with the promise I'd find you, daddy. I was more than ecstatic when word passed that you were here of all places, and with none other than Princess Charlie Magne!" I fawned, going to embrace him when he quickly stood up, and used the chair as a blocker between him and I. "You SEVERELY mistake me for someone else Ms. Jessabelle, I CAN'T be your father!" He replied, darting his eyes between myself and the rest of the Demons nervously. "Yeah! You're a lousy Mimic! Fraud!" Nifty shouted, and the disrespectful Demon from before chortled coldly, "Bet you're embarrassed NOW super freak!" "B-But he IS! I KNOW he is!" I cried, my eyes welling with tears again. "Just get off his back you wannabe." He scoffed, and at that moment, my skin began to burn hotter than the fire outside. I was over his snide attitude, and his cold comebacks! I grew twice my size, and my horns I inherited from my mother sprouted from my head as I wailed in a deep, scary voice, "YOU HAVE BEEN NOTHING BUT MEAN SINCE YOU ENTERED THIS ROOM!" I strangled him with a powerful blue aura, and seethed, "YOU CONIVING LITTLE WORM! I'LL SEE TO IT THAT YOU NEVER HARM ANYONE WITH YOUR FOUL PRESENCE EVER AGAIN!" And with a wave of my arm, I threw the Demon through the wall, and away from the hotel altogether. "J-JESS! CALM YOURSELF!" Ms. Charlie cried fearfully. Nifty screamed, and my attention turned to her as I screamed, "I'M NOT A MIMIC! I AM THE DAUGHTER OF ALASTOR, GREATEST OVERLORD IN ALL OF THIS BURNING WASTELAND, BROADCASTER OF HIS ENEMIES HE TRIUMPHED OVER!" And I ascended upon her as I raised my fist above her to crush the bug that she was! "N-NO!" Ms. Charlie cried, pushing her way through terrified inhabitants, and just as I was going to splatter Nifty, a larger pair of hands gently cupped themselves around my fist. The hands were cold, and the fingers were black and thin, but the way they held my fist was warm and sweet. Confused, I looked behind me to find which Demon it was, and to my suprise, it was my very own father! My anger melted into confusion as his staticy voice began in a rugged sort of tone, "Now, my dear. You mustn't lose your temper in these walls!" I began to take slow, deep breaths as I continued to stare into his ever smiling face, almost showing a touch of pride. Eventually, I sighed, and I returned to my normal size- calmer than I was before. As daddy went back to normal, I looked around the room at the damage I'd done, and the fear on the faces of the residents that remained in the room as I said, "I-I'm sorry.... I shouldn't have lost control like that.... I'm truly, TERRIBLY sorry..." tears fell down my face as I silently sobbed; sinking to the floor in shame and pain when a kind pair of arms wrapped around me. "It's alright." Ms. Charlie consoled, "It happens to the best of us, and you're still trying to find ways to keep your emotions in check. ALL young Demons go through it as they grow!" "But it's unacceptable! It shouldn't have happened...." I replied, feeling regret for what I did to the Demon residents and Nifty. "What matters is that you apologized, Jess. Here in the Hazbin Hotel, we are firstly kind to our patrons, and understanding the rest of the way!" Ms. Charlie said with a smile, and a soft look in her yellowed eyes. I never expected the ruler of oblivion to have such a kind heart! I didn't deserve such kindness, and I remained looking at the floor as I stood up silently, and began to make my way to the main lobby. "Jessie? Hey, kid! Where ya goin'?" Husk asked, and I replied sorrowfully, "Away.... You heard him, Husk, he can't be my dad...." I put my cloak back over me, concealing myself once again before setting back out into the rain when my arm was grasped gently. I turned again to find Ms. Charlie, and she threw back my hood before placing a hand to my face. "Please, Jessie, you should consider staying. Let us talk to Alastor, and maybe we can find some middle ground-closure even!" I looked down at my feet for a bit after she removed her hand from my face, contemplating her offer when Husk added, "Even if we gotta beat him senseless, we'll make him do right by you, AND your deceased mom!" Looking between Husk and the kind smile of Ms. Charlie, I felt a compelling sense inside me that they were being honest-a rarity in a place like this! I sighed, and reluctantly agreed to stay and give them a chance at bringing my father and I together. Seemingly overjoyed, Ms. Charlie embraced me tightly before handing me a key to one of the best rooms on the upper floor of the Hotel. Finding the room I was assigned, I quickly entered and flopped backwards onto a lavish, comfortable bed, and sighed. It was different from the apartments that aunties Lynn and Fuschia lived in, with the slightly firm mattresses, and cracked roof, but it still felt like home. I should've expected for the reunion to not be immediate, but it was something I yearned for since I was a child. I just hope Ms. Charlie stays true to her word if I wish for this to go according to plan.
