Chapter 6.1: Brujeria

Louise chooses the most modest dress she could find in her friend Martha's dress shop. It's a store sells a variety of fashion trends including Japanese street fashion and Korean-inspired clothes and most of what she wears at work are from the same place. Martha liked to dress her up for different occasions. She's been doing that since they met when Louise just had just moved in the city.

Martha's the first one she befriended, even before she met Jackson. She was the one who taught her everything she needed to know while living in Tokyo. Louise moonlighted in her shop a short time, and Martha took that chance to dress her up like a doll toshow the look to her customers.

"Tie your hair with a cute ribbon. Show off your beautiful nape, you know they really love that." She chirps excitedly as she helps Louise get off the curlers in her hair.

She crinkles her nose at her friend.

"I'm going there for work Martha, not for a hook up."

"Oh, come on. He has already made the first move." Martha touches her friend's long curly, brown hair, carefully brushing it. "Now it's your turn to make him even more head over heels with you."

Louise giggles with the thought. This friend of hers is really something. She knows how dating here in Japan works. Take that from someone who already has her collection of Japanese exes.

After styling her hair and applying light make up, Louise stands to wear the ID passes to the event. She grabs her purse, ready to go. Sherry, to her dismay, is the senior that is going to accompany her.

The director has a business trip somewhere, and now Louise has no choice but to be stuck with her.

Her senior picks her up and drives them both to the Grand Prince Hotel where the event will be held. They arrive at the hotel's lobby, where the staff are already waiting. They bow to them and to the camera crew from the TV station that will cover the event.

They set up the seats for the producers and the staff in front of a big promotional poster of the same anime they are working on. Louise feels proud as she looks at the design that she worked on for days. Now it is plastered in front for everyone to see.

A staff gives them the event's itinerary, making them wear their lapel mics. The moment the producers arrive, they will begin filming. Everything will start with greetings and from then, they will make them read the prepared scripts. This is so the conversation will only be about the anime series' announcement.

The thought of the producer's arrival makes Louise's mouth go dry. She's too absorbed with the final outcome of the promotional poster in front of her that she almost forgot about Ojiro.

They had a little conversation through text messages after the tortilla incident and that's it. She became busy again with work and she still hadn't replied to his messages. She didn't actually think about it until now.

The hotshot she just met and her supposed to be her project's boss that couldn't stop texting her is now meeting her for actual work.

A round of applause erupts around her. She stands immediately and claps with them too, forcing herself to smile as the camera crew films the arrival of the producers. Two middle aged men known to have produced many animated films entered. After them follows Ojiro Korishima, looking so handsome in his all-black designer suit. He bows and greets everyone, flashing the camera a gentle smile.

Oh no, this is going to be awkward.

Sherry shakes hands with the producers, so she needs to do so on her turn too.

Oh, God Xolotl. I'm screwed.

With her very own special skill, Louise shifts her demeanor to a cheerful one, greeting and shaking hands with the producers. When it's Ojiro's turn, she avoids eye contact. Just in time, a staff approaches them and fixes Ojiro's lapel mic.

Louise blinks, couldn't help but steal a glance and her heart almost leaps out her throat. She catches him staring at her, with his pair of sharp and dark, void-like eyes, under a blanket of thick hair that covers his forehead.  It was just a split second, but it is enough to make Louise's heartbeat go crazy.

What the hell was that? Freaks me out.

The stare he gave to her looks cold, and she almost shivered, reminding her of the texts from him to which she had not yet responded.

Is he mad? There's no way he's mad about that. That's just how his face looks like! Right?

The staff is finally done with the mic, and they both look away from each other almost immediately. Ojiro goes to his seat, and Louise can finally collect herself.

They let the producers get seated first, and follow the script, presenting themselves one by one and saying, "Yoroshiku onegaishimasu!"

The studio staff are the first one to talk about the upcoming sports anime entitled "Ice Dreams". Sherry, the senior, talks about how the anime production works, and Louise, as a kohai, shares her firsthand experiences in creating the frames.

"Drawing the main character's torso is really challenging. The director made me redo a lot of character layouts." She relays to the producers just as practiced exactly like those Japanese talk shows on TV, giving off the vibes like they're talking to each other casually on a lazy afternoon. The producer nods at her and agrees to everything she says.

"In my perspective, the design was slim enough to pass as a skater's body, but he wanted me to make it slimmer which doesn't make sense. I mean, who would even achieve that kind ridiculously thin waist. I know it's anime but, anyways... even female models don't look like that thin."

Sherry gave her a side eye, warning her not to get too carried away with the conversation.

"Well, if you're wondering for a living example, he's in front of you now." One of the crew comments. The camera tilted toward Ojiro's direction to show his laughing reaction.

A staff member shows her a picture of him on an iPad wearing a tight black clothing that figure skaters wears at their trainings to shield themselves from cold. The clothing fits perfectly in his body, showing the curves of his small waist. shapes his perfectly curved, thin waist.

"Oh." She forgets that she has used the image as a reference, but didn't use the body proportion entirely because she wanted to make it a little more muscular. It's just what she's used to.

"Yeah, of course. That looks amazing Korishima-senshu!" She inserts to make it sound like she has just seen the picture for the first time. "What brujeria, witchcraft, are you even doing to achieve this absurdity?" she just can't help but ask.
