Chapter Three

FISAYO•

"What?" Dad asks.

"Water," she replies sarcastically.

This house...

"Timi you are mad," she insults Dad.

"Ah... maami," Dad sighs and Mum emerges from the kitchen with a smile across her face and Dad wraps his arms around her with an equally gracious smile.

"Radarada," Mumsy hisses. "Tell that Dami of a child that I never want to see her. We should never cross paths again," Mumsy warns sternly.

"Mo ti gbo," (I have heard) "O ti gbo," (She has heard) We have business to attend to if you three don't mind," Dad says and Mum chuckles. They walk upstairs to their room amd Mumsy shoots them on of her death glares.

"Ehen... Omobolanle. I called you to help me and buy airtime. I - "

"Good evening, ma"

That is Oluwaseun. We call her Seun. Aged nineteen. Third born and a successful entrepreneur. She owns 'Seun's Designs'. It's Nigeria's no. 1 when it comes to fashionable handbags and the best ankara outfits. She's an expert when it comes to asoebi and one batch costs nothing less than 60k for one person.

These are pieces you would wear and automatically become a fashion icon. Toke Makinwa is her number one customer. Apart from designs, she's a serious forex trader. She's earned millions. And what she actually studied is IT. She works from home and has the dream lifestyle. For some reason, she still collects a monthly allowance of 200k from Dad.

Mumsy ignores her greeting and she just smiles at me and heads for the kitchen.

And the last born, is me. We're five girls. I'm in SS3 with no achievements yet. Well at least I can brag of my monthly allowance.

"Take. Buy one thousand naira airtime for me. Marun (five)," and hurry. Its getting dark," she says and hands me the money. I take it and head out with Wale.

We take a stroll down the estate, to the plaza. I want to slip my hand in his. Trust me, I want to.

I try. I get my pinky and it touches his. He probably doesn't realize. I lock my pinky in his and feel his gaze on me. Suddenly, he lands his arm across my shoulder and I smile. He doesn't say anything... yet.

"Your family is fun," he speaks up and I chuckle. "They really love you,"

"Yeah," I smile.

"Um.. Wale?" I call out in a small tone but given the quiet streets, he hears me. He glances.

"Yeah?"

"Can I... tell you something?" I ask, my palms sweaty. My heart is beating so fast and I think I may pass out.

"Tell me what?" he asks, looking down at me. "Fisayo?" he calls when I don't speak up.

"Um... It's not important. Just forget it," I smile, walking faster. I hope he forgets it. Please.

He doesn't.

"Just tell me," he says and I stare, wondering if this is him saying this. Normal Wale would be laughing at me by now. Maybe he knows I have a crush on him. Does he know?

"It's drizzling. We better hurry," I say and we start running. We get the cards and halfway to the house, the rain starts.

"Hop on!" Wale yells in the strike of the thunder. "Fast," he adds and I clean my face and hop on his back. Weirdly, his hands rub over my thighs and gives me goosebumps. I smile.

He runs through the rest of the ride till we get home, dripping wet. I'm shivering and my teeth is chattering. We get in quickly.

"Dinner is ready!!" Mamasita yells as we walk into the house. "In five minutes," she adds when Mum whispers something in her ears.

"We better get changed," I say in shivers and we both head upstairs to my room.

I hand Wale one of my oversized joggers and he grabs his hoodie. We change in the same room. We're bestfriends and he probably doesn't feel the same way I do.

I pull my hoodie over and drag my sweatpants down. I sit on the bed, trying to get my legs into my pink sweats. I turn and stare at him.

God, my bestfriend is a freaking greek god. His body is way up there... and he looks so much better without clothes on. I look away immediately.

I got my bra soaked so I bring it down, getting the buckles off. I place the bra on the bed and grab another from my wardrobe.

"You're a freaking goddess,"

I turn sharply at him. Am I seeing things? Is he talking to me or himself in the mirror? I turn to him.

He still doesn't have his shirt on. He launches closer to me as he climbs on the bed. I feel his arms grab my waist lightly and I feel goosebumps all over.

I am shaking. Maybe it's the cold the weather brings. Maybe it's the heat his body radiates. All I know is, I am shaking.

His hands are warm against my skin and I flinch a bit. He places a kiss on my neck and nibbles on it. He's so good at it. Why is he? Wale hasn't dated any girl in ages

I want to stop him but seriously, can I? Like, this has been in my thoughts fir eternity. Without poor notice or a good heads up, I'm making out with Wale.

"Wale," I moan his name and still cannot believe it's happening. Me and my bestfriend making out in a rainy evening. What a great way to start the term. A better way to end the day.

The power goes off. Neoa people at it again. At that instant, Wale's lips smack against mine and every thing I've ever felt for him is laced into that one kiss. I take a deep breath and close my eyes softly, hoping -

"Ayo?"

I jerk up immediately and look up at Mumsy. My heart is stabbed.

"Why are you here? It's time for dinner. Where is Wale? And my airtime?"

"Oh, here mumsy," I hand it to her and she smiles. I hide my from in a little smile and look away.

"You know, this is why you are my favourite," she smiles. "It's time for dinner. Wale... where have you been?"

"I was changing," he replies.

"Let's have dinner," she says and we head to the dining table.

I have been daydreaming for too long. If only I could man up and tell Wale how I really feel about him.

About us...

"Egbami oh. So, you have decided to cook my own son's favourite meal? You have decided to take all the glory? Eh? Hajiya?" Mumsy says dramatically as we all settle on the table.

Dad sits at the end of the dining, and Adeola at the other end. Mum sits beside Dad. Dara, Dami and Seun follow after. I sit at Dad's left hand, and Wale sits beside me. Mumsy comes after Wale and Mamasita is after Mumsy. Great grand ma, my father's mum, has her dinner in her room and Uncle Tobi hardly joins us for dinner. The last time he did, it went worse than expected.

"I cooked the special gbegiri, ewedu and native stew with the ogbonge amala. This one eh... I bet you all will lick your plates when you're done," Mamasita says with a glorious smile as her personal maid dishes out everyone's food.

"I agree. Mum and I took time in preparing this," Mum adds with a smile.

"I'm sure it's good Mum," Dara, Mamasita's favourite says and they both chuckle.

"Table manners!!" Mumsy yells immediately. "You people will be talking like parrot in a talking competition,"

"Ah. Maseso what is wrong?" Mamasita asks innocently. She always does this.

"Don't Maseso me. Don't you people know anything about table manners? Hajiya, shut up!!" she blurts with her full yoruba tongue. The rest of us watch.

"Hey hey hey. Don't call me Hajiya. Do I look like you?" Mamasita retorts.

"Heiii Hajiya you insulted me?"

"Don't call me Hajiya!"

"Hajiya!"

"Don't call me Hajiya!"

"Hajiya!"

"That's enough!" Dad thunders as he stands up immediately. "Adeola, drop that phone!" he yells and she quietly drops it down. "Can't I have a peaceful dinner in my own house?" he asks rhetorically. "I've lost my appetite," he says, dumping the napkin.

"Honey - " Mum calls out, running after him.

"Ode," Mamasita insults Mumsy with an eyeroll.

"Agbaya," Mumsy retorts.

"Are we still having dinner?" I ask.

"Radarada! Shut up!!!" they both thunder at me and I sigh.

"Pele," I say in a murmur and hear Wale chuckle lightly.

My heart skips a beat.
