Chapter Three

Looking up at the modern style two story house, Victoria smiled. She was home, even if it was for a little while. She glanced around as she walked up and into the house she grew up in. Not much had changed in the last year and a half since she had been here. The stairs still went up the left wall and her mom's favorite painting was still hanging in the foyer.

Wrapping an arm around Victoria's shoulders, her mother kissed her temple. "Go on up, your room is the way it was when you left. Get changed into some fresh clothes and we'll have dinner then dessert."

She walked upstairs and into her room. Her mom was right, her room hadn't changed one bit. Walking over to her closet, she opened the doors and smiled as she browsed for something to wear. She had a niggling feeling in the back of her mind though, as if something bad was going to happen at any time.

Shaking it off, she pulled on a black t-shirt and a pair of light grey cut-off shorts. Putting mix-matched socks, she slid into a pair of worn in purple converse. Checking to make sure she looked okay, she grabbed a hair tie and headed down stairs.

Once she got to the foyer, she heard nothing. Expecting her parents to be getting dinner ready, she headed to the kitchen. They weren't there. Dinner was but they weren't. Furrowing her eyebrows, she looked around in confusion.

"MOM! DAD! Are you here still?" She shouted.

No response. 'Where could they be?' She thought as she looked at the food lining the counters. They had been getting the food together, yet they aren't here. Victoria searched the rest of the house, even the backyard and could not find them. That feeling of dread made her feel like there was a ball of lead sitting in her belly.

Slowly the panic started to set in, racing into the kitchen she looked at the clock on the microwave. She realized that it was time. She spent three hours trying to find her parents. Two hours until the 19th, she was going to die soon, there was no way she wasn't going to die.

She grabbed a pen and a piece of paper to write a quick note to her parents. Quickly explaining why she left and giving them her love. Grabbing her duffle bag she rushed out the front door. Feeling to make sure she still had the letter opener in her pocket. With that she started back down towards Galagar Park.

She felt like she was being followed and quickened her pace, hoping to outrun whatever could be there. She got to the park and went to the meadow she had deemed as hers. Thankful that she got there in time, she sat and waited for whatever it was that caused her death.

Upon hearing the snap of a branch, her head whipped up so fast she was surprised she didn't fall over. Standing up she turned around, trying to pinpoint which direction it came from. Even though she checked before leaving her parent's house. She slid her hand into her pocket and wrapped her fingers around the letter opener.

"Hello? Is someone there?" She asked the darkness with a shaky voice.

Slowly a black cat came slinking out of the shadows. Scrutinizing the cat, Victoria realized it was the same cat from the alley. It became clear that it must have been following her. Curious she crouched down, beckoning it to her.

"Come here kitty." She encouraged.

Laughter erupted throughout the clearing startling her into standing up. Looking around once more, she was trying to find the source of laughter. She heard a sickening crunch come from behind her. She turned just in time for the cat to transform into a hulking giant of a creature. It was at least two and a half feet taller than her small five foot tall frame, she couldn't help but stare in horror. Speechless and sure she was about to die.
