Chapter 9
Elaine
We danced well into the night. Pan playing and weaving between us throughout it all. We looked at each other many times but it was Daniel's eyes I sought the most often. I could tell he was watching me the whole time and I was watching him. Eventually Pan stopped playing and all the Lost boys howled a final time dispersing to their tents. D made a beeline straight towards me. I felt myself drawn to him.
"Where's your tent?" D asked.
"I um...well..." I didn't know how to answer.
"You can come stay with me tonight." D grinned.
I was about to agree when Pan came up behind me gripping my elbow tight, "Elaine will be returning to her room tonight."
I stared daggers at him.
"And where is that?" D asked defiantly.
"In my cabin." Pan smirked.
Daniel looked like a kicked dog. "Now be on your way D."
Daniel looked at me longingly and slunk away to his tent. I watched him go and while I was angry at Pan, I also couldn't help but feel thrilled by our contact, intrigued by his protectiveness over me. He led me away from the fire, dousing it with a flick of his wrist. I was filled with energy and excitement from the dance, Pan had appeared to cast a spell over me. We walked into the cabin, Pan sunk into his armchair and gestured for me to sit on the chaise. He locked me in his gaze leaning his head on his hands and his elbows on his knees. He tilted his head from one side to the other observing me. I crossed one leg over the other, head in one hand elbow on my knee. Almost mirroring Pan. He chuckled lowly before roaming his eyes over my body. Suddenly the furniture moved, and Pan's chair was inches from mine our knees touching. He reached out to me brushing the skin of my cheek just below my mask. I leant into his touch.
"You like that Darling?" Pan smirked.
I was caught off guard, "Wait no...I just..."
Pan laughed and leaned in closer.
"Well, isn't that a development." He chuckled.
His lips were on mine the kiss passionate and lustful. He held me softly but assuredly, one hand around the back of my neck, the other holding my left hip. My hands had crept up to hook around his neck. I felt bad for doing this, after what I said to Daniel today...but what he didn't know wouldn't hurt him right? God, I hate my conscience sometimes. I pulled back slightly.
"Wait Peter I-" I realised my mistake as it came tumbling from my mouth, too late to pull it back in.
He used his magic to move me, pinning me against a wall.
"What did you call me?" He growled.
"I-I'm sorry I didn't mean to."
"Oh really, I think that defying a direct order deserves a punishment." I gulped at the smirk he wore.
"And what punishment would that be." I asked, keeping my voice from shaking.
Pan moved my arms up above my head, our lips colliding again. He moved his lips from my mine down my chin and to my neck. I could feel him searching, trailing fiery kisses across my skin. As he lips traced the tender spot where my neck meets my shoulder, I supressed a shudder and bit my lip to keep quiet. He laughed against my neck.
"Don't hold it in I want you to moan my name." When he put his mouth back on my neck, I did as I was told,.
"Pan." I moaned.
Suddenly he stopped, as urgently as he began, he pulled away.
"Well, you seem to have learned your lesson."
"What, but I..."
"You did as you were told and you didn't use my first name, such a good girl." I felt my blood sing in my veins.
"Besides your true punishment is much more exhilarating. I'll make you love it and leave you hanging."
"Peter..." I whispered. He held my chin tightly.
"No more tonight. To bed with you." I was stunned, and infuriatingly I was disappointed.
"Fine, but think Pan are you really punishing me...or yourself." He chuckled and ran a hand through his hair.
He turned to enter his room shaking his head, closing the glass doors behind him and drawing the thin curtains. I trudged into my room, exhaustion hitting me like a load of bricks. I opened the closet to put my nightclothes on and looked in the mirror. My cloak was not actually black as I had previously thought but a dark navy blue laced with threads of silver only visible in certain lights. The mask was delicate and beautiful. Crafted of golden leaves and other foliage. I took the mask off placing it gently on top of the set of drawers in the closet. Untying the cloak in one swift motion I hung it at the end of the closet. I hunted through the closet for nightclothes. One drawer held socks and lacy undergarments which I had no choice but to wear. Another held the tops and pants that I found earlier. The fourth drawer contained what I was looking for. Loose and comfortable clothes for sleeping in. I slipped on a flowy white top and soft grey cotton pants. The white top was loose and threatened to slip off multiple times. I was sure Pan did that on purpose. I pulled down the slated wooden blinds over the window and slipped between the soft cotton sheets. I didn't think of my frustration at Pan for long as I looked up and watched the lights above my bed shine through the fabric canopy. As my vision blurred the lights became stars twinkling above me, lulling me to sleep.
The wind howled around me as I ran. Crashing through the forest desperate not to trip or snag myself on a rogue branch or root.
"Ellie!" An angry voice shouted behind me.
"Ellie!" I didn't stop I just kept running.
I was terrified. I could see the coast ahead through a thin layer of trees, I was almost there. A ship lay waiting at the shore. I reached out when the Shadow came tearing past me, knocking me to the side. It's glowing eyes hovering above me. I screamed as the Shadow pulled me back. Back into the deep forest. I screamed as the darkness surrounded me. As the cries of other lost souls deafened me.
I continued to scream as I felt myself being shaken awake. My ears were ringing and my vision cloudy. Suddenly my senses came rushing back to me.
"Elaine!" Pan shouted his hands firmly around my shoulders.
I stopped screaming only for the tears to begin. Hot tears poured down my face, shuddering sobs rolling through my chest.
"Elaine, it's okay your safe. It was only a nightmare." I couldn't speak, I couldn't breathe.
I was choking on my fear. Pan pulled me against his chest holding me tight. I held my hands close to my chest. Burring my face in the hard planes of Pan's chest. I felt him hesitate before deciding to stroke my hair, his hand trailing down to rub my back. Over and over. My tears eventually subsided until the only sound in the room was my heavy breathing. My eyelids felt so heavy.
"Can you tell me what happened?" I tried to remember but the dream was slipping away.
"It was awful, it was dark. I was running somewhere, there was a ship at the coast. They were screaming...I couldn't escape...I w-was trapped. The sounds...the sounds...I." The tears threatened to spill again.
"Don't worry. It wasn't real, it can't hurt you. Go back to sleep." Pan moved to leave.
I wrapped my hands around his waist.
"Don't leave me, please Peter." I felt a sigh ripple through his chest.
Sleep lapping at my mind like waves against the shore. I felt the bed disappear from beneath me as a feeling of weightlessness overtook me.
###
I awoke the next morning, the bed soft and inviting beneath me. I turned over expecting to face my desk on the other side of my room when my hands pressed against bare skin. My eyes flew open looking into the sleeping face of Pan. I realised my hands were pressed against his abdomen, his body warm and unyielding. I tried to move, slowly though, as not to wake him but as I pulled back the covers Pan's eyes fluttered open.
"Leaving so soon?" Pan smirked, stretching before propping his head on his hand.
"I'm sorry, I don't know how I got here." I tried to explain, completely flustered.
He chuckled lazily before his face became more serious.
"I carried you here. I didn't leave you just like you asked." Suddenly memories from last night flooded back.
I had asked him not to leave me. I had cried into his chest. I had called him Peter. I couldn't remember much about my dream, the only things that stood out were the pirate ship and the screams. I shook my head to clear the thought. Pan sat up, the bed covers falling away and exposing his torso. He brushed a lock of hair away from my face. I closed my eyes and sighed lightly. He cupped the side of my face with his hand,
"Go get dressed and we'll go to breakfast." I nodded slipping out of the bed.
"Oh, and Elaine, bring the sword." Pan grinned.
I raised my eyebrow before laughing lightly and walking out of the room. Opening the door, I raised my eyeline only to see Felix standing in the middle of the living room. Felix was silent. He tilted his head looking at my neck. I blushed from embarrassment and walked into my room. I heard Pan addressing Felix just as I shut the door. I ran to my closet throwing the door open and looking in the mirror a few small marks were dotting my neck. They were faint but not completely unnoticeable. I quickly hunted for something to hide them, but I couldn't find y tops with a high enough neckline. Damn. I thought desperately for how to hide it. I looked at myself in the mirror again. In Neverland anything is possible if you believe, I thought to myself. I willed the marks to disappear and after a few moments they were gone. I heaved a sigh of relief pulling on a similar outfit to yesterday and again pulling my hair back into a braid. This time I didn't where a green ribbon I wore a golden one, like the flecks of gold in Daniels eyes. I stepped out of my room sword at my hip. Felix was gone and Pan was in his room. I didn't mean to, but I ended up watching Pan as he pulled his shirt on, watched the movement of every muscle. I cast my eyes to my feet as he approached me. I looked up at him when I heard his footsteps stop, he reached out to my neck touching the spot where the marks should have been.
"I assume this was your doing."
"I'm sure I have no idea what you're talking about."
"I like the green ribbon better." He smirked.
Pan extended his arm to me. Looping my arm through his we walked out into the camp and towards the dinner hall.
"What did Felix want?" I asked, attempting to make polite conversation.
"He was making final arrangements for my trip tomorrow, I'm leaving on importance business."
"Leaving? How long will you be gone?"
"Will you miss me?" He chuckled, "Only a few days, maybe a week at most." I didn't know what else to say.
We walked the rest of the way in silence taking our seats in the same positions as yesterday. Pan waved his hand and our food appeared. Oats with some kind of yogurt and berries. Pan ate only an apple. The boys had to serve their own but not us. Not the Great Pan.
"So, tell me about yourself?" Pan began.
