Chapter Thirty-Seven

"Maybe it is," Darkstorm mewed. "You could be right." Arrowheart snorted.

"Of course I'm right! How do you not know that I'm always right?" Darkstorm batted a sheathed paw at his ear.

Thanks, Arrowheart, she added silently. You're right. Shadeflight will be remembered... And I will save the clans.

She padded to a tree stump. She had already told the clans what had happened, which gave her some relief of not having to think about her littermate's death again. It wasn't that she didn't care- of course she did!- but she didn't want to think about her beloved brother's death. Not again.

"Cats of all clans!" she yowled formally. "I have a... guess. Well, Arrowheart does." Arrowheart padded up beside her. The cats murmured to each other, trying to guess what was going to happen.

"I think," he mewed, "I think that this might be our new home." Silence met his words. "I saw perfect places for ShadowClan and WindClan to live, and I heard a river. This island might be the place we've been looking for."

Excited clamors arose from the crowd. Darkstorm knew what they were feeling.

Our journey has come to an end. Her pride vanished as she found herself looking at the cats. What was going to happen? Would friends be made enemies? I don't know. But I do know that StarClan will guide us. They were mad, yes, but we made it all this way. They must help us now.

Her heart fluttered as she met Arrowheart's happy gaze.

And I think we deserve it. She nodded to herself. This is our home.

"I'm going to go explore," she announced. "Everyone else, feel free to.- I mean, in ShadowClan." I guess I only command ShadowClan now. "But don't go by yourselves. We were warned of danger. The ice floes were dangerous, but I don't think that's what they meant." I'm more worried about what killed that deer.

...

Darkstorm and Arrowheart made their way through the island.

"Here's where I thought WindClan could be," he mewed, pushing through a bracken. Darkstorm gaped at the land. She knew the island was huge, but this...

There was a whole moor, with hills and some bushed here and there. She could make out a faint ring of trees where WindClan could make their camp a while's walk away.

"I think it would work," she mewed slowly. "I mean, I'm not a WindClan cat, but it looks like a pretty ideal moor." Arrowheart nodded excitedly.

"Yeah, so this is where WindClan could go. Come on, let's follow the river sound." They bounded off towards the sound of water until they reached a stream.

"It's small," Darkstorm mewed skeptically. "Let's follow it, it might get better." They walked along the water, which indeed widened. Darkstorm yelped as a roar filled her ears.

"It's okay," Arrowheart nudged her. "Look! It's a waterfall!" They padded towards it, Darkstorm's ears flattening from the sound. She peered up to see where it was coming from, surprised to see the island stretching into a mountain. It wasn't somewhere they would make camp, but it was interesting to see.

"Hey, it has a cave like the Tribe of Rushing Water has. Maybe they'd like it." Arrowheart shrugged agreeingly.

"Yeah, it looks like it could work pretty well. I can show you the ShadowClan maybe-camp, if you'd like," he added. "It's really way better than the rest of the island." Darkstorm followed him, curious to see if it would work for a camp.

"StarClan," she mewed quietly, amazed at the sight as they arrived through more bracken. "It's beautiful..." she was breathless, not wanting to miss anything as they walked through the forest.

Tall pines surrounded them, letting light emit through them, but not so bright that it was an open territory. Darkstorm spotted a few huge marshes, with water lilies like back at the lake. The memory made her smile.

Arrowheart stopped her, gesturing with his tail to the space in front of them. There was a large tunnel of yarrow and shorter, low sweeping pine branches making a top. It was more of a cave than a tunnel, but with a large puddle in the middle and no branches on top, which reflected the sun, and probably would with the moon.

"This is a perfect medicine cat den. Shadeflight would love it," Darkstorm mewed, looking at the ground. But he's not here to see it. She blinked. If her littermate was here, he wouldn't want her to mope around, he would want her to explore. She closed her eyes, quickly opening them as Arrowheart led her away.

"Through," he mewed, flicking his ears to a part where the tunnel-den branched out. She followed him, amazed at how serene it was. It was a shallow marsh, easy to wade through, with a tree mush like the one they had found at the lake. However, inside the protective branches, there were bushes that they could sleep under, and fallen trees to use to separate them into dens.

"It would work," she admitted. Her fur stuck up in exciement. "It would work! All we have to do is find a camp for SkyClan and ThunderClan, and a gathering place, and a place like the moonpool!" She paused and snorted. "We have to find a lot of places. But it would work, at last so far." Arrowheart nodded, and they continued to walk around the island.

"There's tall trees here," he mewed. "They look sturdy. It would be good for SkyClan." Darkstorm nodded happily. I think we're supposed to be here!

She licked her nose, distracted. Arrowheart yawned.

"We should stop soon, for the night. But this would be a good place for ThunderClan, too, with trees and undergrowth." Darkstorm nodded.

"Let's not stop yet. All we have to do now is find a moonpool and gathering place!"

Arrowheart nodded. "But I doubt it will be water, the moonpool-place. Remember, in the old forest, legends say they used a stone inside a cave."

"I would love to see it, the moonstone," Darkstorm mewed, remembering the stories. "Yeah, let's stop now. Moonhigh has passed already, and we can hunt in the morning." They found a hollow to sleep in.

Our journey is almost done.
