CHAPTER SEVEN-"cherry
blossoms" ❝

▇▇▇▇▇▇ SOMETHING RICK GRIMES NEVER IMAGINED HE'D SEE, WAS HIS OWN SON COVERED IN FLOUR. granted, so was the kitchen, and the counters, and the floor. everything was coded with the light white dust. everything included blythe bradley. her hair was completely white, carl's hat that rested on her head was also full of flour.

he tilted his head at the two laughing teenagers, "what the hell happened in here?" he asked with a light smile.

carl brushed some flour from his face, "oh, dad, I-uhm, somehow dropped the bowl of flour, it got everywhere."

the two kept out the part where they purposely had a flour fight.

rick nodded, giving them a look, "just-uh, clean up afterwards, okay?"

"sure thing, mr. grimes!" bly called, brushing the powder from her arms.

bly held in a snicker as the man walked away, very confused. carl shook his head, flour flying everywhere in the process.

"hopefully we didn't need all that flour," carl said, still dusting himself off.

bly raised a hand and rubbed some powder from his cheek, "well, let's hope it turns out."

she reached up, grabbing his hat, she shook it, sending a white clouds around them.

"shit this is a big mess," she said, realizing that everything was covered in the kitchen.

"well, we got until seven to clean up," he stated, "also making the desserts."

"yeah, yeah," she waved it off, "I'll begin mixing everything, do you mind grabbing a broom and sweeping some of this up?"

carl shrugged, "no problem."

after a few failed attempts of brooming, and a sweeping lesson from bly, carl had the floor looking better than it was before.

bly had the gram crackers smashed and mixed with egg, on top was a thin layer of chocolate and honey, she then poured some cake mix on top of it all to hold it together.

when the cupcakes came out, she'd sprinkle some honey on top.

a recipe handed down by her mom, bly cherished the only thing she had left of her mom.

"bly!" carl called.

she snapped out of her state, looking over at the boy, "what?"

"the timer, it went off five minutes ago, couldn't you hear it?" he asked, tilting his head.

"oh shit," she opened the oven to reveal the crispy topped cupcakes.

grabbing a towel, bly grabbed out the pan.

"hey, careful with that-" carl began, he didn't figure a towel would keep away the burning hot metal.

he was correct, "ah, fuck!" bly quickly set down, the pan, releasing it with a loud thump.

she pulled away her hand with a curse, "shit."

bly cradled her burnt hand, "what was I thinking!" she exclaimed, "hot-pad, not a towel!"

carl was quick to her side, "crap, do you need ice?"

bly bit her lip, trying to move the pain from her hand, "uhm, turn the water on please, on cold."

they moved towards the kitchen sink, and carl switched the facet to cold. bly stuck her hand under the cool flow and slowly opened her fingers.

there was a giant red mark along the base of her fingers.

"damn," carl whistled, "that's gotta hurt."

bly gave him a look, "you don't say."

carl raised his hands in defense, "hey, okay. what can I do to help?"

bly let out a heavy breath, "uhm, band-bandages would be nice," she said, but trying to hide the pain in her voice.

carl nodded, "bandages, okay, I'll go get some," the boy ran off through the house like a mad man trying to find the first aid.

he came back a second later, panting, "who knew-how many bathrooms this house," he took a deep breath, "has."

bly furrowed her eyebrows, "ah, okay, I think you need to do it, I can't."

carl nodded, "here, jump up on the counter, it'll be easier."

bly hopped up, sitting on the countertop, her upper back against the cabinets.

"I hope you know what you're doing," she stated with a snicker.

"well, let's just say, this isn't my first injury."

carl opened the first-aid and grabbed out a bottle of petroleum jelly, "huh, I haven't seen this stuff since I was seven, my mom put some on my scraped knee once, I think I was trying to skateboard, but I totally failed-"

"carl!" bly almost yelled, "listen, I'd love to hear about your childhood injuries, but maybe some other time."

carl snapped out of it, "oh, shit, right."

he grabbed her trembling hand gently, dishing some petroleum jelly onto her burn.

for a second, it burned like a bitch, but the cool jelly soothed the area.

"okay, this might hurt," carl grabbed the bandages and began wrapping her hand. bly would constantly curse and hiss from the stinging.

"sorry, sorry," he said softly, trying to soothe her.

tightening the bandage, bly's nerves shot through her hand, in response, she quickly grasped his arm.

carl looked up, both of them drowning in each other's eyes. as bly stared into his, she sensed a feeling of safety and stability. as he gazed at her, his face was open and quite innocent despite being put through a hell of a lot.

bly noticed how cared for her, they hadn't known each other for as long as anyone else in alexanderia, yet they were so close. figuratively, and literally.

carl cleared his throat, noticing how close the two were, he backed away, "your hand should be good, sorry if it hurt."

bly looked down at her hand, smiling, "I've had worse."

carl nodded, "I figured you'd say that."

bly laughed, "you know, when I was six, before the apocalypse, my moms were teaching me the secerts of honey dew gram cakes, I burnt my hand just like this all those years ago."

bly's head fell back against the cabinets, a sad frown falling on her face, "they'd wrap my hands up, kiss my wound, tell me that I'd heal."

carl smiled, "must be a mom thing," he remembered all the times lori would kiss his wounds, saying a kiss would make it better.

grabbing blythe's wrapped hand, he brought it up to his mouth, placing a kiss on the bandage. their eyes didn't leave each others, "like my mom used to say, a kiss to make your booboos stop hurting."

bly fondly smiled, "I think your mom might have lied, it still hurts "

carl chuckled, "maybe just cause I'm not a mom."

"hold up, I think it's working," bly began, "my hand stopped hurting."

the boy shook his head, "ah, whatever," he laughed.

bly tilted her head, amused, "no, I'm not kidding," she patted his cheek, "looks like your mother material after all."

carl's mouth fell open, a short laugh following.

bly adjusted carls hat on her head and smiled proudly.

"anyways, how about we finish that pie?" carl suggested.

bly's face flattened, she raised her burnt hand.

"oh, shit, right," he rubbed his face, "how about, you tell me everything, I'll do it."

bly shrugged, "okay, chef grimes," she plopped his hat back on his own head, "let's hope you can follow directions."
