Chapter 6 - Revealed

"FAMILY IS SUPPOSED TO BE OUR SAFE HAVEN. VERY OFTEN IT'S THE PLACE WHERE WE FIND THE DEEPEST HEARTACHE." {iyanla vanzant}
"(Y/n), I realize that things have been... tense between us as of late, so I wanted to have another talk with you. It went well last time, and you and Lex Luthor talk often and have a wonderful relationship."
Twiddling my thumbs, I stared at my hands. Similar to last time, we were sitting across from each other. This time, however, instead of the ritual room, we were in the dining room. Likely an attempt to make it seem more casual. It did nothing to quell my anxiety.
Sure, there were plenty of things I wanted to ask him, but each one that ran through my mind seemed more likely to put me in conditioning than the last. Questions about why and how. About his home dimension. About his aversion to being a decent father to me. That last one was sure to get a punishment.
"Can you tell me more about Mom?" I asked nervously. It was the safest question out of the bunch. The last time he talked about her he got distant, too distracted to get angry and issue a plan for further conditioning.
"I met your mother on my fifteenth trip to Earth from my home dimension. It was a park in Utah, Palisade State Park, I believe. After meeting her, I visited her more than I had any other being in the universe. She began to change me..." Father met my eyes, his own flashing red as if challenging me, before he continued, "That's why I had to kill her."
"What?"
Father must have kicked me on the chest, or I fell off my chair onto my back, because no air was entering or leaving my lungs. My entire world stopped at that moment as I stared into my father's impassive features. Did I just hear something? There was no way he killed my mother. He spoke of her with so much fondness. It truly seemed like he loved her.
"I had to do it. She made me aspire to be good," he spat the word out like it was acidic in his mouth, "You know what it feels like to have someone inspire you. But I'm chaos. I can't be good, chaos can't be good. I had to get rid of anything that said otherwise, just as you soon will with Kid Flash. Our pasts, presents, and futures are the same. There's no escaping your fate."
That was it. The punch in the face on top of the kick to the chest. I knew that being on the other side would lead to conflict with my former friends, and the idea of having to kill Wally had floated around my mind more than once, but now my father was confirming it, comparing it to his situation with my mother.
"But you had me," I squeaked out weakly, "You had a child. She had a child. A family. And you killed her?" Did that mean I had extended family I didn't know about? Grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins; each one wondering what happened to me but never finding a satisfactory answer.
"Ah, yes. Perhaps my greatest plan of all. The chaos gene is recessive, you know. It's hard to find beings with similar abilities, hidden or otherwise. So many tries, and yet you were the only one to gain powers similar to my own. Someone I could mold into the perfect, obedient heir to the empire I would make of the world."
"The only one? You had more kids?" The idea of my father getting together with more women across decades was almost as strange as the idea of having siblings. I had siblings. Had. Past tense. There was no way my father would let any loose ends wander the world.
"As I said, I visited Earth fifteen times over the course of different eras. Victorian, medieval, so on. I thought the whole witch panic would be a great time, but it was just humans being stupid and misunderstanding. A few other times I tried across different dimensions. Each child was a disappointment and had to be dealt with. But you, you were the one. I had to wait until you were sixteen. That's when your powers would have manifested fully. The villains finding you and the drama with the heroes was a lucky coincidence."
He killed my mom. He killed her because he loved her. He killed any half-siblings I could have had in three thousand or so years. All because they were normal. Could he not have let them live? Let them lead normal lives with the only problem being not knowing who their father was? Father caught onto my silence and stood, patting and squeezing my shoulder in a forced comforting manner.
"I'll give you some time to process this. Just know, I did what I had to." He did what he did for evil, world domination, selfishness, "You'll understand soon enough when you make the decision to kill Kid Flash yourself."
He said it like the decision had already been made for me. And it had. I held myself back from ripping out his shadow right then and there. It was all too easy in my mind, but he most likely wouldn't die from the wound so there wasn't a point in him being killed for it. All he did was go farther than I'd ever been willing to. His morals were nonexistent.
Father left, sending the room into silence. Wiping the tears from my eyes, I took in a deep breath and stood. Leaving the kitchen in favor of my room, I practically slammed into Harley in my rush to leave.
"Hey, where are you going, Darlin? I'm about to make some dinner," Harley grabbed my shoulders, smile fading when she saw how distraught I was. Motherly instincts kicking in, she pulled me close, "What's wrong? Did something bad happen between you and Klarion? I just saw him leave. I swear if he hurt you-"
"I can't talk right now. I need to go," I pushed past her, ignoring her calls.
Running to my room to avoid any other encounters, I slammed my door shut behind me and locked it. Dropping onto my bed I opened my computer, setting it on my desk. Leaving it there, I pulled my Black Rose uniform from my closet. It'd need some modifications.
"It's time, SASS," I announced, running my fingers over the sleek fabric.
"Video message cued and ready for Mr. Luthor, and the Pepper-Quinzells. Prepared for memory erase of anything relating to this topic after the messages are sent and played."
"Good. Everything is ready then," steeling my emotions, I took in my last unsure breath, smiling, "Let the games begin."
~*~*~*~
"I'm done with the villains. They've hurt those I've loved enough."
The team paused their training routines to gather around the main report screen. The contact had popped up without prompting in front of them. Prompting meant the team preparing for a mission, as the contact always seemed to know when they were gearing up to head out and fight. This time, it was in the middle of a semi-peaceful training session.
"You're leaving the villains?" Nightwing asked for clarification.
"Yes, that's what I said. Meet me at the Blüdhaven docks in ten minutes. Don't be late, or I'll leave and you'll never know who I am."
The face left the screen. The cave was plunged into a tense silence as the entire team looked to their baffled leader. Running a hand over his tired face, Nightwing sighed in contemplation.
"Whole team for this mission. Extreme caution," he ordered simply, not giving himself time to doubt his own orders, "Hurry up and get to transport."
The large team nodded and ran off to their modes of transportation. Ranging from flight, powers, or machines at the cave. By Nightwing's order, the original team took the bio-ship.
"If whoever is there shows any signs of hostility towards the team, knock them out," Nightwing ordered the seasoned heroes, "I have an inhibitor collar ready no matter what, so we can deal with whoever's there safely."
The team nodded. Twenty minutes later the bio-ship landed at the docks, the first group out of the rest of the team to arrive. They jumped out, observing their surroundings cautiously. The contact wasn't there.
The group of six jumped when the rest of the team showed up, their nerves getting to them. It had been a long time since they'd been so nervous on a mission. But something about the entire situation was off-putting.
"Looks like you brought the whole gang," a dark figure became outlined in the shadows, slowly waltzing into the dim lights above them, "Rolling out the welcome mat already? I'm honored."
The team turned to the figure, the original six blanching. No way. The person in front of them was- It was too good to be true. They had been a villain forever, overcome with hatred. No one could have guessed that the contact was-
"No way," Artemis whispered, fingers loosening around her bow.
"What villain is that?" Cassie questioned in confusion, "Are we supposed to know who they are?"
"(Y/n)?"
"Hey, guys," (Y/n) waved calmly, smiling casually. As if the past five years hadn't happened, "Good to see you again under civil circumstances."
"KF," Nightwing handed Wally the inhibitor collar. The man ran forward and secured the collar around (Y/n)'s neck.
"Woah, Wally. Take me out to dinner first," (Y/n) smirked as Wally became flustered, attention diverting to the younger team members, "Nice to meet you guys. I'm (Y/n). You probably know me as Black Rose."
"You're the Black Rose?" Bumblebee crossed her arms.
"Call me (Y/n), please," (Y/n) waved a dismissive hand, "Now, let's go to the cave! You do have holding cells there, right? It's easy to assume you aren't letting me back into my room so easily. If it's even still there."
(Y/n) walked toward the bio-ship. The original six scrambled to get in front of and behind her. The newer members shared equally confused looks. Who was that girl? The Black Rose had been killing people for four years. And she showed up on their doorstep after saving their butts twice. Black Rose was (Y/n), the girl they heard short stories of. Who was found under Lex Corp.
Jaime watched as (Y/n) bounded up the ramp and into the ship, trying to make small-talk with the heroes on her way up, with little to no results, "That's one mujer loca."
