It was finally nighttime.  I stayed next to Chara, who was wide awake, hugging their pillow.

I looked around nervously, silently hoping the locked door would work.

...it didn't.  It slammed open, but no sound was made.

I froze and flinched away.  "THEY'RE HERE!"

Chara froze, but before they could scream, THEY leaped towards them and swiped with their huge, sharp claws and bit at them with both mouths.

I stared in horror at the bloody scene.

Chara didn't stand a chance.  They were killed.

The creature looked at me and their smile widened as they made it look like Chara had never been attacked, then swiftly went back through the door.

I stared at Chara's dead, limp body and my ears drooped.  I slowly went over.

"No... my best friend... my only friend... gone..."

Tears formed in my eyes and streamed down my face as I bent over their dead body and sobbed.

Looks like they'll float too.
