James found out in the next few days how smart of a girl Catrina was. She was good at every subject, and maths was her favourite. The two of them became the best of friends not too long after that day, and always helped each other with what they could.

After only a few months, they had gotten to the level of true friendship: stealing each other's food.

But, before that level, a bit of an awkward situation had occurred...

—-
James had wanted one of her chocolates which had so happened to be a Hershey's Kiss, and before he thought about what he was saying, he had asked her "Can I have a kiss?" She had responded not with words but by resembling a sunbaking tomato. Then James realised what he had said, and turned a darker shade of red than his friend Casey's hair. He looked around at his friends who were all smirking maliciously. "Uh- s-sorry th-that's not what I- what I meant... I was asking if I could-um- have a chocolate. Please." James had corrected, still crimson.

"O-oh y-yeah s-sure." She had replied, smiling awkwardly.

James stared at Catrina and she stared back. They were having an intense staring contest and had silently agreed that whoever blinked last would get to steal the most food from the other.

They continued to stare hard, not daring to blink, each willing the other to close their eyes. Eventually, they both blinked at the exact moment, and both rushed to take as much food from the other as humanly possible.

James had managed to possess a lolly snake, a packet of barbeque chips and 3 Hershey's Kisses. Catrina had gained his muesli bar and apple. He smirked at her.

"I made sure to eat the good stuff at first break." And childishly blew a raspberry at her.

Her face contorted with playful anger, and she scrambled out of her seat, bellowing "I'll get you for that James Alexander Duckfoot!" (Yes, that's his full name. Don't judge me, I'm not good at names.) And James, only now realising what Catrina was doing, dropped his scavenged items, got off of the seat and ran as fast as he could away from his best friend. She chased him across the year 9 area, through the playground, around the oval three times and finally tackling him onto the ground in a secluded spot underneath a large oak tree. She was on top of him, playfully hitting his chest with her closed fists while he lay his torso against the tree. Then, after a minute or two, she stopped to breathe and slide her glasses back up onto her nose, turning her head to the side and holding herself up with her hands planted flat on the ground.

James couldn't resist, he just had to, this was the moment.

He reached his head up and aimed for her cheek, but she turned her head right at that moment to look at him. Their lips connected, and James felt like fireworks were going off. Their noses fit perfectly together, as if their faces were shaped and made to be joined.

Then, just as quickly as it had started, it ended. James felt his whole face burning, let alone the rest of him. Catrina stared down at him, looking as red as he felt. She sat up, James following suit, and she pushed her glasses back up her nose, and cleared her throat. She opened her mouth as if to speak, then shut it again, pushing up her glasses once more. James felt he had to say something.

"S-sorry, I-I don't know what I was thinking..." He trailed off.

Catrina just continued to stare at him, sitting on the ground, a few her little brown curls untucked from her ear. Then, she giggled. She GIGGLED! She leant towards him and kissed him; her eyes closed. This time, James had time to breathe in her scent. Mmm the smell of cherries always calmed him down. He had cupped the side of her head by this point, and Catrina flinched slightly at his touch, but then put her hand over his, the two of them loving every moment of it.

But then it was ruined by some wolf-whistling, and they both pulled apart. Their friends were staring there, all looking smug.

"Took ya long enough." Said one of them, Max.

"Well look who's talking." Replied James.

Max turned a deep shade of Casey-hair and glanced at his boyfriend, Kaden. Everyone burst out laughing, struggling to breathe. Then Frankie, red faced and struggling to get the words out, said

"W-We'll give you t-two some pri-" she snorted with laughter, "privacy." The others pulled themselves together and smirked at Catrina and James as they all turned and walked back to their area.

The pair of them just sat there in comfortable silence, enjoying the other's presence. Then Catrina kissed James' nose and hopped up, holding her hand up to help him. "We should get going too, next class starts soon and it's Maths, you know there's no way I'm missing that."

James accepted her hand, and this time, neither let go. Catrina re-positioned her hand so their fingers were interlocked and leaned her head on his shoulder as they walked. Again, James felt like they were meant to be together: her hand fit perfectly into his, her head fit perfectly on his shoulder, their scents mixed perfectly together, creating a cherry pie scent.

WOOOO 912 words! Pretty good, eh? I'm really proud of this chapter, no matter how cheesy. So yeah, that's chapter 5. I hope you all like it, and please tell me if I've made any mistakes with anything. Also, I will accept no homophobic comments in the comment section. You will be reported if there is any of the sort. Personally, I'm straight, but I'm a straight ally, a lot of my friends are LGBTQ+, and I can't just start to hate them because of what they're like, it's not their fault! I honestly don't understand homophobic people though, how does it affect your life if someone else likes boys and is a boy, hm?

Anyway, please tell me what you think of this chapter and what your favourite chapter has been so far. Also, I'm going to randomly do a "Random Question that I felt like Putting in" or a "RQIPI" where every few chapters that I feel like putting a question in I will, and like I don't know why. Anyway, this chapter's RQIPI is:

What Hogwarts house are you in?

I'm was sorted into Ravenclaw at 11 so I'm in Ravenclaw, but I would be in Hufflepuff if I was sorted now. Anyway, on with the show!
