"DEFINING MOMENT WITH A DEMIGUISE"
I
n their way to Macy's Department store,, Kenna walked ahead of their group, her eyebrows furrowed on an angry expression, fists clenched as she had her arms crossed over her chest.
She may had lost a few minutes due to her lost of control but her memory didn't fail her when Newt stopped her from walking away.
Newt sighed to himself knowing the woman's bad mood was because of him. He walked up to her, matching her pace. "Kenna...."
The Goldstein sisters and the muggle stayed behind, noticing this was something Newt had to do by himself.
Kenna didn't verbally acknowledged him but the slowing of her pace spoke more than words.
"Listen, I know you're angry with me because I stopped you from finding that boy" Newt began. Kenna scowled, proving he was right. "But I had a good reason..." Kenna suddenly whirled in her feet to face him, eyes flashing dangerously. Newt slowed but didn't back off. He had dealt with creatures equally or even more dangerous than her. He blinked at his thoughts, reprimanding himself. Kenna was not one of his creatures. "That Obscurus is dangerous to go..."
"So am I" Kenna interrupted him sternly, her frown deepening .
"You've seen what this obscurus is capable of" Newt reminded softly "It has destroyed buildings, roads and killed muggles"
"So have I" Kenna interrupted him coldly before turning around, leaving him stunned. "What you saw on that Death Cell was nothing compared to what I'm really capable of"
Newt stood behind for a moment, shaking his head. "That went well" he murmured to himself.
Kenna reached the store, hands in her hips as the others arrived from behind her. They scanned the windows until Kenna smiled slightly, shaking her head as she caught sight of a purse floating away from a mannequin on the display.
They went inside the store in the search of the demiguise. Their steps were quiet as if to not startle it when they find it. When they spotted it, Kenna listened quietly how Newt explained the creature's nature in interest. Even thought she was mad at him, she couldn't help but admire all the attention and dedication he gave to each magical creature
It made her anger evaporate slightly.
Jacob and Queenie headed over other place as Newt indicated. Kenna was about to follow them, when a hand stopped her.
Her eyes flashed dangerously before looking at her side noticing it was Tina and not Newt who stopped her this time. Her eyes immediately softened as Tina gave the woman a small smile.
There was the echo of a screech from around the store and Newt stiffed in recognition.
"I get it that wasn't the Demiguise" Kenna spoke matter-of-factly.
Newt glanced at her and nodded "But it may be the real reason why the Demiguise is here"
The three of them followed the Demisguise and Kenna couldn't help but smile in awe seeing the creature for the first time in two years. It was that creature it had definitely made her study magical creatures all over again.
That and the Niffler.
She remembered one time while dealing with Goblins (story for another time....and reason why she despises them) and she rescued a small Niffler. She frowned to herself in thought.
Was she a Magizoologist all this time instead of an Auror? Did her fellow aurors did it on purpose when they came across a creature? Leave it to her?
Not that she minded. Not when the Demiguise looked up at them and scurried out of their sight pretty cute she may add. She loved those little creatures and maybe that's the reason why she has stayed on Newt's side all along.
A small cooing noise brought Newt's attention to his left where he noticed Kenna looking after where the Demiguise left. Her eyes were shinning in admiration and not anger as they were minutes earlier. He smiled to himself as the three walked over slowly and quietly.
"Its sight operates on probability, so it can foresee the most likely immediate future" Newt began explaining in a whisper as they walked behind the Demiguise.
"So what's it doing?" Tina asked curiously seeing the Demiguise unloading sweets in front of him.
"He's babysitting" Newt replied casually.
Kenna furrowed her eyebrows looking at the Demiguise curiously seeing it showing up sweets in front of him.
"What did you just say?" Tina questioned. Kenna glanced at her. She obviously noticed the American had no knowledge of Magical creatures and that made her feel slight bad for the little creatures, they also had the right to be known.
"This is my fault" Newt told them, reaching the demiguise slowly and quietly, kneeling at its side. "I thought I'd had them all, but uh, I must've miscounted"
Newt placed down his case carefully before there was a shifting noise in the rafters making everyone look up. Kenna's eyebrows shot up in surprise seeing a plumed, creature with a serpentine body hiding. A flash of recognition hit her making her smile.
An Occamy.
"It was babysitting that?" Tina asked, still and nervously, but couldn't help a small smile.
Newt continued being still and quiet as the Demiguise continued offering up sweets at the Occamy as the plumed creature leaned down slowly.
Kenna had only thought in her mind, someone would call her insane.
Beautiful
"Occamies are choranaptyxic" Newt explained quietly. Kenna smiled slightly at the creature. Both her and Tina smiled at the sight. "So they grow to fill available space. Mummy's here"
Neither of the wizards or the muggle noticed the Demiguise's eyes flashing a bright blue as his abilities kicked in having a premonition, as they were focused on the Occamy. The creature's eyes fade back to its original color, looking back at Queenie as with her his premonition started.
Queenie took a step forward, kicking a Christmas ornament that made a jingling sound. The calm moment was gone as it startled the Occamy, it reared up with a loud screech. Newt tried to calm it down but there was no use, the creature found the sound and the humans in front of it threatening and began to trash around. The Demiguise took off to safety, running right into Jacob's arms as he leaned back also protecting Queenie.
The Occamy swooped down and scooped Newt up, destroying the store. Kenna backed away from the creature's tail as it trashed everything on its way
"We need an insect, any kind of insect!" Newt called out from the Occamy's back as that's where the creature threw him "And a teapot. Find a teapot!"
Somehow Kenna found herself on the floor covering her head as she crawled under the debris falling from the ceiling and whatever the Occamy managed to break. She looked around for any of the objects Newt called for as she reminded herself to be calm and not fell into the fear of dying.
While she made her way out of the disaster, Jacob and the Demiguise had found a cockroach and Tina a teapot.
Everything went still. The occamy staring at the squirming insect in Jacob's hands.
"What are you waiting for?!" Kenna exclaimed in a hiss, surprised at the nerve of talking that way to the others.
Jacob and the demiguise were pinned against a wall. Tina was on the other side of the room, holding out the teapot.
Newt slowly gave the command to throw tje insect to the teapot. Jacob slowly passed his hand over the Occamy's plumed skin soothingly, calling for Tina to be ready on the other side of the room as he threw the cockroach. The Occamy headed straight for the insect.
Tina heroically caught the cockroach in the teapot, the Occamy diving down head first behind the now trapped insect. She braced herself seeing the massive creature covering herself for the impact of the creature on her but it never came.
Kenna watched in awe from where she crouched down on the floor how the Occamy slid right into the teapot falling into the size of it.
Newt quickly jumped forward and placed the lid over the teapot.
All of them panted heavily, sighing in relief
"Tell me the truth. Was that everything that came out of the case?" Tina asked seriously.
Kenna's body went limp in relief throwing her head forward in the floor at Newt's answer "That's everything. And that's the truth"

The group traveled back inside Newt's case as to make sure the creatures returned back safely
Kenna's body was begging for the woman to just lay down and rest after all the energy being wasted for just releasing the Obscurus, fighting back control, almost releasing again if it weren't for Jacob and for the mess the Occamy produced. Besides that was only the physical exhaustion. The emotional, however was another story making her feel drained.
The witch knew that she needed to take advantage of the peaceful nature of Newt's case before going out and saving that boy, not caring what Newt said, she would save that child before he got hurt.
Coming across a shiny habitat, she stopped in her tracks. Her eyes narrowing as she entered the shiny place. Scanning carefully the habitat, there was just one creature who liked shiny things. A small smile played on her lips as her hand went to her neck. She pulled out a chain, a golden pendant appeared from her clothes that she hid. The light hit the pendant making it shine.
"Come on" Kenna whispered in anticipation unclasping the necklace from her neck "I know you like shiny things, little bugger"
Kenna slowly knelt on the ground with the necklace in her hand. Small footsteps from her right made her smile, a sniffing sound was heard before there was a pull from her handan, turning around as the necklace was snatched from her hand, catching sight of the Niffler's body scurrying into hiding.
Kenna scoffed in amusement "Not even a thank you?"
"What are you doing?"
She whirled around like a deer caught in headlights as she shoved her hands on her coat pockets looking up at Newt innocently.
"Just admiring the habitats you have for each creature" Kenna replied slowly "As I had no chance the last time... I was here" a dark look passed quickly over her eyes recalling the Obscurus.
Newt nodded slowly, also remembering the Obscurus but he could see right through her at the moment "Really?" He questioned in amusement seeing how the witch's eyes flickered around the Niffler's habitat every few seconds as if looking for something.
"Really" Kenna confirmed, an hesitant tone showing up slightly.
Newt smiled to himself looking down, obviously shoving aside the conversation he really wanted to have for the moment as he noticed Kenna needed it.
"Are you sure it has nothing to do with a little kleptomaniac?" Newt asked and he didn't bother to hide his chuckle.
Kenna sighed, knowing there was no point in lying "Alright. As soon as I noticed the shiny objects. I knew there was a Niffler here..." she said with a smile looking around "Have you ever told him he's kind of rude?" She placed her hands on her hips, her smile widening as she spotted the Niffler, slowly walking to it "Hello" The Niffler looked up at the woman about to run away "You can keep my necklace..." she added quickly noticing it was bound to run away if she didn't say anything "I just wanted to see one of you again" she said whispering. The Niffler sniffed, neared the woman, obviously looking for more shiny objects before scurrying away "Yeah, I knew you wouldn't last long" Kenna chuckled, shaking her head, standing, turning around, noticing Newt had been looking at her interaction with the creature all the time. "What?" Kenna asked quietly, self-conscious.
Newt shook his head smiling to himself "Nothing. Just... It's the calmest I've ever seen it before around someone else" Newt said nodding his head over to where the Niffler was before. "You're good with creatures"
Kenna brushed her hair from her face ignoring the dried blood staining her face from the scratches she hadn't attended from before. "Well, someone once taught me these creatures deserve to be treated with respect" she said slowly, walking past him, smiling slightly "That's a lesson I've never forgotten"
Kenna patted his arm and walked away sighing to herself tiredly.
She wanted to rest.
