CHAPTER TWO: THE DARKNESS TAKES OVER
Ever since the Maximoffs parents died, Olive has grown used to the darkness that seemed to surround her. It wasn't a metaphor, though, it was very literal.
She noticed that with a simple thought, she could control the darkness around her. The only issue was that it was brought out by pain. The only thing painful enough, so far, was the thought of her parents' deaths.
It's been years since the apartment was destroyed. Since the innocent children lost their parents. Since their lives changed forever.
Olive has grown up now, so her siblings gave her much more freedom than she got when she was younger. She was thankful for that, but she couldn't help but notice that they still treated her like their younger sibling. Through age, that never changed.
Now, she got to wander alone a lot more than she did before, as she was doing right now. It was sort of a routine. Olive would walk around Sokovia by herself for a bit, a few hours later she would walk to a 'home' that was given by the government to see her siblings doing their own things, usually one of them was making dinner.
Olive was on her way home taking in the view of Sokovia at night, as it was very beautiful. While others might not have seen it the way she did, due to the mess it was in, she could always find the beauty of it. She made it to her apartment, the door was rusted and paint chipped around the walls, and she opened the door to see Wanda and Pietro sitting on the couch. Around them were a few men that she didn't recognize. Oh?
Olive's heart rate picked up as she watched them converse. She heard only her heartbeat. The words they spoke were dead silent to her, and the darkness behind her seemed to grow.
Wanda and Pietro had noticed it. The darkness, that is. They found it strange how whenever Olive got upset, or felt any sort of negative emotion for that matter, that the darkness in the room seemed to grow. They were smart enough not to comment on it.
"What's going on?" Olive asked, the dark fog that hazed her mind grew. All of the men as well as her siblings turned to look at her. One in particular looked at her and then put a big smile on his face. "Hello! I'm Dr. Strucker, as most call me. You must be Olive." The man started, and Olive felt herself nearly lose her balance as she shuffled backward.
Olive could see an evil gleam in his eyes, and she already didn't like him at all.
"Your siblings have signed you up for some experiments we will be doing together. Safe experiments, mind you. By the end of it, I'm sure you will be very pleased with your results." Strucker finished, he almost swore he saw a shrinking shadow behind the girl, but no one else seemed to notice.
"Results?" Olive questioned, although she meant to keep that as a thought rather than a question.
"Yes! We will inform you on how this is going to work out when we get to my office." He nodded, taking a step forward. He knew he was making Olive uncomfortable, and he enjoyed it.
"Okay..." Olive said with a fake smile. Everyone knew it was fake.
"Pack your bags and we'll meet you outside." One of the other men said with a very stern voice, sending shivers down the girl's spine.
The men left and Olive instantly looked to her siblings. The twins could see the fear rising back to her face. "Why are we doing this? And... what are we even doing?" She asked, her hands shook furiously by her sides. She didn't like how they made this decision without her, no sane person would.
"Pietro and I figured it out. This is how we'll get back at Stark, for what he did." Wanda said, a darkness in her eyes that Olive had never seen before.
"Are you serious? Is that what this is about?" Olive argued back.
"Hey, don't worry, it's a good thing, we promise. It won't take long." Pietro hugged her side, a lopsided smile on his face. Olive pushed him back, walking over to her room.
She pushed away the dark thoughts that swarmed in the back of her mind and reluctantly began to pack her things.
The kids walked out of their apartment building where the men viciously grabbed their bags from their grasps. Olive had a feeling they wouldn't be getting those back.
They were shoved into the car that would be taking them to who knows where. The drive was long. Longer than it should've been. Olive knew that they were no longer safe, bringing fear to her heart. The darkness fed on the fear like fire feeds on wood. Vicious and hungrily.
Olive didn't know where they were anymore, but when they got there, she noticed some sort of octopus symbol. She squinted her eyes at it wearily before gasping at the sight of a man in outside, a gun in hand. His expression was stone cold, and his eyes remained gazing ahead.
There were men everywhere, all holding guns. Gates ahead that would lock them in. Oh no. Olive was starting to wonder if her siblings had changed their minds about their decision yet. Their decision, not hers.
When they entered the facility, Strucker turned around to speak. "Welcome to Hydra!" He spoke, Olive could feel the taste of metal on her tongue at his words.
Two men walked over and grabbed Olive from under the arms before dragging her off. She heard her siblings screaming her name. This wasn't meant to happen, she was sure of that. But, what did they expect? Olive attempted fighting back, but in the end she was much weaker than everyone around her.
She felt nothing but air as the men removed their hands from her arms, until she hit the cold floor. She groaned in pain, the sound of a gate closing behind her.
She looked up, her eyes widening. She was in a room with dark grey walls, and cobwebs in the corners of the room. The smell of dust was evident and instead of four solid walls she saw three. One of them was a gate.
She was locked in a cell.
Days went by, years even, every one the same. Not a false man out of routine, a routine that Olive had to learn. The things they did to her were unspeakable. The darkness behind her grew each second, and she had to spend every second of every day keeping it in control.
Olive has only tried breaking out once, and she blames herself for not planning correctly. She couldn't control the darkness like she had been practicing. It worked against her.
She remembered the day very clearly. She broke out of her cell when the guards opened it to do her daily tests. She plagued their minds with a darkness, causing them to black out.
Just when she thought she could make it out of Hydra, the darkness took over. Everything was clear up until this moment. It all faded into black.
She couldn't remember a thing. She was told that she attacked many of the guards, but they managed to tase her before she could do any real damage. She was told that she wore a smirk plastered on her face the entire time, and her eyes had turned completely black.
And in response, she told them that it wasn't her. She told them that she had lost control, and the darkness took over.
Ever since that day, her cell had been the brightest room in the entire facility. Not a spec of darkness was in sight. Every last corner was filled with bright lights. This way, the darkness was far from her. It was the only time she didn't have to fight for control, because there was no darkness to fight back.

lizzie speaks...
did i explain this badly? okay quick rundown
olive can control the darkness around her in any way that she can think of rly, but the darkness is slowly gaining a conscious due to the experiments at hydra. it used to be based solely off her emotions, but now it's either that, or whatever that darkness is feeling- does that make any sense?? my god. this is hard to explain
it'll be explained further as you read on
as for the living situation, idc how unrealistic it is bc it rly doesn't change how the rest of the story goes anyway.
