Chapter 13

DarkMoss sat up tired. Still a bit sore from battle training yesterday. Maybe we can hunt today, and Aquaspear and Snowpaw can join us. DarkMoss walked into the clearing. A bunch of cat were surrounding Coontail as he organized boarder patrols and hunting parties. Snowpaw and Quailpaw were sharing tongues near the medicine cat den. DarkMoss looked inside the stone apprentice's den, seeing if Lillypaw was still asleep.
"Lillypaw get up." DarkMoss waited a few moments before looking in the den. No one was in there. DarkMoss looked around the clearing again, wondering if she had missed her. DarkMoss didn't see her again. Maybe she went for a walk with someone.

"DarkMoss, we're on a boarder patrol, where's Lillypaw at?" Brambletail asked, her brown tabby fur still ruffed from sleeping.
"I think she went out of camp with someone. Who are we on patrol with?"
"Blazefire, Willowbreeze , Adderclaw And Patch, I think that's his name."
"Yep, that's his name." DarkMoss growled. DarkMoss watched as Blazefire and Willowbreeze gathered in a small group with Patch trotting his way over. "Let's get this over with."
"Why, do you hate him?" Brambletail inquired.
"Yes." DarkMoss worked her way over to the patrol, Brambletail following her.

"Have any of you seen Lillypaw this morning at all?" DarkMoss questioned as she joined the group.
"No. Can't you control your apprentice?" Patch was sincere at first, but quickly went back to his normal ways after a heartbeat. Why dose he have to be in BirchClan? Can't he just go back to wherever he was from? DarkMoss wished she could answer those questions.
"You know, ignoring me won't help you, sweetheart." DarkMoss let out a nearly quite hiss.
"Can I join you guys?" Silverpatch had ran up behind DarkMoss, nearly making her jump out of her skin.
"I don't see why not." DarkMoss answered.
"I haven't seen Lillypaw, by the way." Blazefire chimed in after a moment.
"Same here." Willowbreeze added.

"What about Lillypaw?" Silverpatch looked at DarkMoss with concern.
"Well, someone wasn't wacthing her. Isn't that your job DarkMoss?"
"Shut up Patch, I checked the apprentice den this morning and she wasn't in there. I'm not worried though. She probably took a walk with someone." DarkMoss told Silverpatch.

The patrol headed through the camp entrance and headed to the twoleg-bridge.
"And don't call me sweetheart" DarkMoss added after a moment.
"Maybe we shouldn't waste so much time arguing, DarkMoss." DarkMoss shot a warning glance at the grey tom.
"Are you guys going to argue the entire time?"
"Patch is here, so yep!" DarkMoss replied quickly.

A light drizzle started to fall once they got to the twoleg-bridge. DarkMoss fluffed up her pelt to try to conserve some warmth. Silverpatch walked between Patch and DarkMoss, trying to keep them from arguing. They marked the bridge before heading to the long strip of grass and trees that was their boarder. DarkMoss still padded next to Silverpatch, her pelt slowly getting heavier with dew, every step she took. Hearing something coming towards the patrol, DarkMoss tried to look past a bush to see what it was. She heard the rustling on the bush and she looked up. A large buck was jumping over the patrol. DarkMoss pressed herself to the ground, her wet hair rising up. The buck landed far away from the patrol and continued to bound off to the other side of the territory.

"Are you seriously scared of a deer?" Patch said, walking over to DarkMoss. She stood up and flattened her fur.
"No, I didn't see it coming." DarkMoss ran to catch up with the patrol.
"Sure, I still think that DarkMoss is scared of deer, isn't that right, sweetheart?" DarkMoss wished she could rip out his throat. That would solve quite a few problems.
"Why do you call me 'sweetheart'?" DarkMoss asked the tom.
"Because it annoys you. And it's fun to see your reaction." Patch replied, actually talking like a normal cat.

"I think it would be nice to be friends instead of arguing all the time." DarkMoss said after a moment.
"Me too, but I still want to argue. At least sometimes, you look cute when your angry." Silverpatch whipped her head around and glared at Patch.
"What did you say?" Silverpatch turned around and faced him.
"You know what I said, but have you seen her get mad? Her fur sticks out and she's like a little brown fluff ball." Patch told his mate. DarkMoss just rolled her eyes and caught up with the patrol.

"You hate him, don't you?" Blazefire asked when DarkMoss caught up.
"Yeah." DarkMoss answered. "Can't you tell?"
"It's pretty obvious if you ask me." Patch shoved his way between DarkMoss and Blazefire.
"Really Patch?" DarkMoss gave a slight laugh. Patch weaved his way in front of DarkMoss, dragging his tail tip under her chin. She playfully bit the end of his tail, just enough for it to hurt for a moment.
"Hey!" Patch whipped his head around and glared at DarkMoss.
"You should've expected that." DarkMoss said with a small laugh.
"Finally you guys are getting alone!" Silverpatch called out as she caught up.
"Control your friend, She just bit me!" Patch walked next to Silverpatch.
"Where's Brambletail?" DarkMoss said after a moment, she hadn't remembered seeing her for most of the patrol.
"She left because you wouldn't stop arguing, sweetheart." Patch told her.

DarkMoss left camp with Thistle to go hunting. The boarder patrol had gotten back a little while ago. Bored, DarkMoss decided to go hunting with Thistle. DarkMoss watched a golden colored leaf fall in front of her muzzle. Fall has come so quick, it's probably going to be a cold winter. DarkMoss nearly shuttered at the thought. DarkMoss lead Thistle over to the creek, down by fallen tree. DarkMoss sniffed around, looking for any scent of prey. DarkMoss smelled a squirrel and chased it up a tree. She chased it out onto a branch. There was only two ways for the squirrel to escape: jumping from the tree or carried down in DarkMoss' jaws. She managed to get the squirrel without falling off.

"What's that?" DarkMoss looked at something that caught her eye.
"What is it?" Thistle called up to DarkMoss. A white figure was in the creek. She looked at it closer from where she was. DarkMoss' heart skipped a beat when she realized what it was. Her heart shattering into millions of pieces. She dropped the squirrel, which nearly landed on Thistle.
"No!" DarkMoss cried out.
