Returning To The Studio
Song: You don't even know me- Faouzia
I was right by the way. There were already pictures on the street poles, bus stops and in the subway all over every bulletin board. There were pictures of him everywhere. I hated looking up into those eyes of his, it was like he was calling me out, trying to get me to confess in what I did. I avoided them as much as possible. I wanted to rip them off the poles, off the walls but I got to where I ignored them altogether. I would see a flyer and look the opposite way regardless if it was him or someone else.
I wait a full long week before showing up at the studio and guess what there were pictures there as well. I look the other way and go through the doors. I find the studio that belongs to Davenport. I already know the moment that I open the door they will attack me. They will want answers. I walk in and everyone is warming up. He sees me and immediately rush over to me. "My, my, my Violet Adler is here to save the day. You look amazing. Are you ready to come back?"
"I'm here!" I smile wide. Some of the other girls talk in hushed tones around me. Then I hear a squeal, "YES!!! We were hoping you would be back. Come on we are all warming up," Julia beams and wraps her arms around me. Then Olivia comes over and pulls me over to the floor with them. Neither one of them give me time to put on my shoes. I do all the exercises and it feels amazing just being with them.
After the pre-warm ups, I walk back over to my bag and take out my shoes. I put them on and I still hear a few of the girls whispering about me. A few of the guys walk over and say a quick hi but then Ethan blurts out, "Where is Gabe? Everyone says that the two of you split up and he left but it's odd don't you think that he told no one where he was going?"
I shrug my shoulders. I knew it was bond to happen sooner or later, everyone wants to know as much as possible. The thing is, I knew no one would ever find out the real truth.
"Seriously Violet, he wouldn't leave the Company. He loves this place more than he loves himself; it just doesn't add up."
I slide on the other shoe and look up at him. "Well what can I say; I have no idea where he is. After the accident we had a heated argument and he left. I haven't seen him either, so I really don't know what to tell you." I stand up and walk between the guys to get back over to the dance floor.
I wait for Davenport to play the music and I start to dance with everyone else. I was shocked that my ankle held up rather well. I sway to the music, do all the turns and even run and jump in the air, then landing as if nothing ever happened on that stage several months ago. However everyone knows what happens and the damn scar from the accident will always remain for everyone to see. It will be there for the rest of my life. I will say that it was different dancing without Gabe. Gabe has been my partner since I came here and now he is gone.
As I continue to dance, I look around the room and wonder who I will be paired up with. I missed the last play but I so plan on being in the next one. I will work extra hard to get where I need to be. I need the lead. I have to have the lead. And I might do just about anything to get there again.
I size up the other girls in the Company and honestly there is only one that comes close to me. Only one that will really take my spot. Not that the others are not any good, oh, they are but just as not as good as Mariam Northcut. She has been dancing since the day she was born. She has been fighting to be on top and since I have been gone she has finally made her way here. Now I just have to work my ass off to prove that I am better than her.
While I am dancing, I think of ways that I could easily sabotage her. I can easily make her fall, fall in to her and push her off the stage. And then as I am turning and lifting my leg high, I think of ways to just kill her. I could poison her, stab her in the back, slice her throat, or drown her. Beside she deserves to be hurt for messing around with Gabe behind my back. There are so many scenarios that come to mind, but I know that is not going to happen. I have to do this, get to the top by showing that I really can.
I dance my heart out and after class I walk over to take my shoes off. Davenport walks over to me and places his hand on my shoulder. "I'm so excited that you are back. Our next show starts in about a month, however everyone already has a part. I'm not sure we can get you on the stage. However I would love for you to understudy for several of the girls. Learn the parts just in case I need you."
In case you need me...I try to smile politely back at him. I know the show must go on and I know that all the parts were already filled it's just I need this more than anything right now. If I have dance on my mind maybe I wouldn't be trying to hurt others. I was just about to tell him that it was fine when the crew ran over to grab my arm.
"We are all going out to grab a bite...you have to come with us to catch up on everything."
I want to tell them no but I nod and say yes instead. I like hanging out with all of them but I know that they will bring Gabe back up and I just don't want to have to deal with it because I might slip up and say something that I shouldn't.
We end up at the café down the street. Everyone orders latte's with a hint of pumpkin because it is that time of the year. We all find a table out on the sidewalk and catch up on everything that has been going on.
Peyton tries to smile up at me. "Sorry about Mariam she has been seeking her way to the top since the moment you left."
Julia rolls her eyes and adds, "But we all know that Davenport likes you more. He has been tolerating her ass for months now. Did you guys see him light up with Vi walked into the room."
"Yeah and did you see Mariam's face," Levi laughs. "It was priceless."
"Either way you guys, she has the main part. It will be fine she probably deserves it just as much as anyone else." I lie through my gritted teeth.
"Yeah...right, we all know that she is sleeping her way to the top. Not with Davenport of course but she has her claws dug deep into Professor Williamson. Believe me when I tell you, I have seen them two together and they are for sure having an affair of some kind."
"Ewe!" We all say at the same time. Professor Williamson is in his mid-forties but I will say he is very attractive. It's just that he is married and has two kids and he should not be cheating on his wife. Then again it wouldn't surprise me if she already knows that he plays around behind her back.
As we are sitting there, a woman walks by but then stops and turns to walk over to our table. She taps me on the shoulder. "Excuse me...don't I know you from somewhere?"
It's been over a week and she looks so much better than the last time that I saw her. Her bruises are practically gone and she just looks like she is free for once in her life. I slowly look away from her. "You must have the wrong person; I'm sorry I don't know who you are."
"Oh, I'm so sorry to bother you. You look so familiar to me."
"I get that a lot." I take a sip of my latte and she walks off.
A few seconds later she comes back over. "I'm really sorry to bother you again."
"Honey just take a picture of her it would last longer," laughs Levi and everyone else starts to giggle.
She looks a little upset but then shakes it off. "I just wanted to say thank you. You have no idea what it really means to me. I..."
I cut her off before she says something that she really shouldn't say out in the open. "Look as I said before I don't know who you are. I just recently moved back here and..."
"You helped me out at the store. It was you. I will never forget you and what you did for me."
Crap...if she goes on like this, she is for sure going to say something about her deadbeat man that I j uh st so happenedto kill. "Oh yeah...I remember we were at the store and you dropped all your groceries. You guys should have seen it, food was every where. She was having a melt down and I was kind enough to help her out. You know what let me buy you a drink." I stand up to go into the café and she walks in behind me.
"I...I...I'm sorry. It's just that I saw you and I had to thank you."
I turn to glare at her and in a very low tone I say, "You are welcome but no one can ever, ever know about what happened that night. I saved your ass at least you could keep the secret to yourself and act like you know nothing."
"I'm sorry. I should never have approached you. I can see you are with friends."
"Yes and they have no clue what I can do. I helped you out and we are good right. So let's leave it at that."
"About that. I really do appreciate it...however I was wondering if I paid you could you take care of my neighbors husband."
I look back at her like she has lost her freaking mind. "I think you misunderstood that was like a one time thing...I don't just go around killing dead beat husbands and enemies."
"Why not?" She pulls out a piece of paper and scribbles her address down. "Here is the address...just think about it. The guy is a real creep. He is nothing like Frankie. I know you wouldn't believe it but really he is so much worse and she has kids involved...please don't say no just think about it alright."
She turns and leaves before I can say anything else. I look down at the scrap piece of paper in my hand. I have never really thought about getting paid for doing a job like this. I know my parents get paid really well and I mean damn good money. They are always helping me out with everything. I have never actually paid for anything in my whole life with my own money. Maybe this is what I need to do. It would be easy money that is for sure. I fold the paper and place it in my back pocket before headed back out to the table.
