Nobody But Eli

Song: Nobody but you- Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani

New Orleans is so alive at all times throughout the day. I wasn't at all surprised that he wanted to come and stroll down the streets. Each shop is so unique in its own way. He drags me into each one as if on the search for something specific. He splurges and buys everything that I happen to make a comment about that I finally stop saying anything about how cool something is.

"Come on you don't see anything you like?"

"Eli...I see a lot of things I like; I just don't need you buying me anything else." I hold up the bags that I'm holding in both my hands. There is no way that I will be able to carry anything else. And his hands are just as full for that matter.

"I want to buy you everything your heart desires."

"I get that...but I don't need anything. If you want to get me something, get me some food I'm starving." I point towards my stomach and laugh as it growls loud enough for him to hear.

"Well then." He looks around to see what looks remotely yummy and points over to one of the restaurants with outdoor sitting. "How about there?"

"Anything will be fine at the moment...I am famished." I pull him along to walk across the street. Once at the front door we are stopped by the hostess.

"We have an hour waiting list, not unless you made a reservation. Can I have your name please?"

"Foster...Eli Foster and I don't have a reservation; however I'm sure you can get us a table." He pulls out a hundred dollar bill and hands it to the guy.

He smirks, "Yeah...you know how many people try that. I am sorry that is not going to work here."

"Well...can I please have a word with the owner then?"

The guy huffs and walks off. In a few seconds he comes back with a French guy in a white suit. His hair is perfectly slicked back and he has this very stern look on his face. "I'm Gabriel Petit, the owner, what can I do for you?"

I watch as Eli shakes his hand and pulls him off to the side. I have no idea what he is saying to him. They shake hands and he holds his hand out for him to follow him to a table. Eli walks back over to me and takes my hand. "Come on my lady...our table awaits us."

"Wait...how...what the hell did you say to him?"

"It doesn't really matter, does it? Come on now love...our table is waiting."

We follow the owner to the table and he even hands us the menu's himself. "Can I get you a bottle of wine Mr. Foster?"

"Yes please...we will have the finest that you have and the whole bottle will be fine, sir."

He smiles widely. "Yes sir...I will have them bring it your way." He turns to the leave us at the table looking at the menu.

"So what are you in the mood for, seriously anything you want you can have it."

Of course I can have whatever I want. I haven't yet figured this all out but I know he has pulled several strings just to be sitting here. "Awe...that's really nice of you." I look over the menu and set it down. "Ok...I'm ready to order," I tell with a corky smile as I tap the menu with my fingers.

He motions for the waiter to come over and then nods for me to go first.

I gleam, showing all my pretty white pearly teeth. "Yes...I think I will start with the tuna tartare and then maybe with the tenderloin with grilled asparagus." I close the menu and Eli is gleaming my way. I wink with a smile and then say, "And can you add the spiced bread pudding for afterwards."  I knew he wouldn't mind, hell I'm sure he didn't even bother to look at the price.

"Nice choice and for you sir."

He closes the menu and lays it at the edge of the table. "Just give me the same, thanks." He flashes a smile back my way.

As the food comes out, I am in awe. It is to perfection. I actually eat everything they bring us including all of the dessert. "Oh my goodness...I can't believe I just ate all of that," I laugh.

"I love watching you actually eat for once. Better than just a salad right?"

I let my mouth open up just a bit taking him by surprise. "And what is wrong with just a salad?"

"Nothing...I was just saying..."

"I know what you were saying, besides with me not having to worry about my weight anymore I'm entitled to eat as much as I wish." I hold up my glass of wine and down the last drop.  I waited for him to reply back but he doesn't, instead he takes a sip of the wine and slowly sits it back down on the table.

Towards the end of the meal the waiter comes back over and places the check down on the table. I nearly choke when I see the total. The wine alone was over six hundred dollars and then with the meal was a good one eighty yes nearly eight hundred for this one meal. I watch as Eli takes out his black card and hands it to the waiter. When he comes back he even adds a nice tip to round out the bill. I don't say anything about it.

We head out and he pulls me over to the St. Louis Cathedral. "Where are we going?"

"I want you to see the inside...it's absolutely breathtaking." He pulls me more into him to guide me right along.

"Eli...it's marked off saying we can't go in." I point to the door to show him the pretty little sign and he only smirks and opens the door anyway.

As we go in, I am all in smiles but as soon as we step all the way in my heart literally stops. The room is filled with white roses. Not only that but I happen to look to my side and my dad is standing right there. I'm not sure if this is a good thing or a bad thing. My smile starts to fade quickly but then I fake a smile pretending that everything is alright. He steps over in front of Eli.

"May I have a word with my girl?" Just him saying that makes my stomach twist in knots and I feel a cold sweat come over me, that feeling like I just might get sick.

"Of course." He shakes his hand and then turns to lean in toward me to kiss me softly on the lips. He walks off and I am standing there alone with my dad. I wanted to call after Eli to come back and stay at my side but what would really be the point.

"Please...come with me." I follow him over to a room as he holds the door open for me to go in. Once inside he closes the door and wraps his arms around me for a long embrace.

"Dad...what are you doing here?" I say nervously.

He lets go of me, however he rests his hands on my shoulder for a second. He continues to look me up and down. "My goodness look at my girl. I feel like I haven't seen you in forever."

My voice still comes out a little bit shaky, "You still didn't say what you are doing here."

"Eli called to say that he found you here in New Orleans. Thought I better come down and see for myself what is going on with you. You said you were going to New York and you are no where near there. "

I shrug him off of me and walk away as I fold my arms in front of me. I don't want to believe that he would yet again go behind my back. He knew this whole time that my dad was coming down here to get me. He was only fucking buttering me up because he knew that once I found I would be pissed at him. "Of course he called you. I should have known that he would." I thrown my arms in the air then cross them in front of me.

"It's not like that Violet. He was worried about you. He told me everything and I think we need to talk."

"Told you everything? What are you talking about?"

I watch as he walks over and sits down on the hard leather seating. He pats the space beside him. "Come have a seat."

Shit...this is not good by any means at all. I roll my eyes but then walk over and sigh as I sit down beside him.

"You know the day she brought you home I was so against it. I was so pissed off to see you sleeping in that bed. I saw her face and I knew no matter what the hell I said it was never going to change anything because her mind was already made up. Believe me I argued with her telling her that your family would be looking for you but she insisted. When she thought about you, she was thinking about how she was so much like you. Both of you were basically left for dead. She just wanted what was best for you, you got to know that."

"I do...but you guys kept me away from my family. They never gave up looking for me. I know about them. Did you know that my grandmother lives in the same damn town as us? She fucking lives only minutes away from us. This whole time. And my mother's parents live right here in New Orleans, that is why I am here. I wanted to meet them but Eli was right, what good would it even do after all these years."

"We should have told you a long time ago. We were only looking out for you."

"You have always looked out for me. Can't you see that I'm going to be alright I don't need you guys holding my hand any longer."

"You are right...that is why Eli will be holding your hand for now own."

"So he told you that he wanted to marry me."

"Actually he said that you wanted to marry him. That is why we are all here."

I quickly look all around me and he starts to smile. "They are all waiting for you...out there. You know you shouldn't  be hard on Scarlett...she always had you in her best interest. She would die for you. She always fought for you to make sure you had the best of everything."

"I know she has...it just hurts knowing this whole time she was taking care of them and didn't even bother telling me. I just felt like I have been lied too for so long."

He stares off and I watch as his face contorts. "What do you mean taking care of them?"

"So you saying you didn't know that she's paying for their retirement home. I was going to pay it and it's been taking care of. I saw her name on the paperwork. All these years she has been taking care of them too."

He stands up and brings his hand over his mouth. I watch as he takes a deep breath. He didn't know. Shit. He lets out a long sigh, "Well...today is your day. I just want you to be happy."

I stand up forcefully and let out a screech, "What do you mean it's my day?"

"You are getting married. I'm here to walk you down the aisle."

"I said I would marry him...but I..."

His arms come around me. "You got this baby girl. We are all here for you." I let him hold me as emotions run wildly through my head. Eli had everything planned out. How in the hell did he manage this. I know for a fact that it takes a good year to plan a wedding in this cathedral. How in the hell did he pull all of this off?
