82 - Regrets

I have been updating this book regularly. Please stop spamming me 'pls update'. I will definitely update when I am free. Repeatedly spamming is not going to do anything significant....I hope that everyone understands that I have too many things on my plate now. So, let me try to organise this schedule on my own phase. Thank you.😇🙏❤

Every minute I heard her voice, all I saw was red! Every word stung, only fuelling the fire that burned inside of me. Every meaningless phrase was like a gasoline to it. My fists began to clench and my jaw rooted. Before I could reply, I heard her crying in the phone. Immediately an idea popped in my mind as I smiled one sidedly.

Now it's time for karma my dear!

"Come home!"

---------------------------

Sonakshi showered and wore the clothes that Dev chose for her. Her thoughts were all lingering about the kiss which happened back in the washroom. No matter how much she tried, she couldn't get rid of the thoughts about Dev. Most of all, she couldn't believe that she let him do whatever he willed.

She was a conservative and introvert type of person. She was never an easy person. But why was she so comfortable with him? Was it because of their bond or was she falling for him? Even she couldn't answer those questions. But now, she was somewhat sure that she had feelings for him. She loved him...

He was her husband after all!

After drying her hair, Sonakshi took her time to examine the room. Last night was a horrible night for her. She had the worst nightmare. She ran in to Dev's room due to her fear and anxiety. She didn't even see what was around the room except their bed. After her shower, she walked out and strolled through their room. That's when she noticed so many pictures of her and Dev, framed on the walls inside their wardrobe. There were pictures pasted even in the study corner.

Some pictures were too intimate that it made her blush. There was one picture of Sonakshi kissing Dev in his cheeks, where the background looked like they were in the office. Office? She couldn't believe that she was the one in the picture. She looked more confident and happier. Everything about her looked different. Her clothes, make-up and body language.... What changed?

She walked closer to their bed and opened the drawer. That's when, she spotted their wedding album. She didn't know why. But tears started forming in her eyes. Why couldn't she remember her marriage? She felt sick to her stomach. When she opened the album, she gasped at those images....

She couldn't recall anything.

There were so many people whom she couldn't recognise. There were many pictures taken with Jatin and her while they were giving crazy poses. Her eyes widened as she started doubting how close they even were? She thought that Jatin was Pooja's husband...and that's all. She desperately wanted answers for her questions and only Dev could give her those answers.

Without looking through the album completely, she wiped her tears back and started moving out of the room. Once she was out, she heard a loud argument happening in the hall.

"Look! Whatever you have done till now, I have tolerated it. But this is too much.... Dev what madness is this? Why have you called her back? Have you thought about Sonakshi beta? Is all these problems not enough for you?" Jay yelled while Dev just sat down calmly and drank his tea.

"Dad.... I have thought about all the consequences. Just let her come and we will deal with the rest!" he replied as Jay shook his head. No matter how much he tried, he couldn't understand what Dev was thinking. Ever since Sonakshi's accident happened, he started becoming a shallow person. Jay thought that Sonakshi's entry would cure him. But his madness had reached its peak now.

Jay couldn't understand how Nisha coming to the house would help the family at all.

Just when the commotion was going on, Dev spotted Sona standing walking down the stairs awkwardly. The entire hall became silent once they saw her. Jay quickly resumed eating his breakfast. The last thing everyone wanted was to let Sonakshi know about Nisha. Without any expressions, Dev stood up and slowly walked towards her.

"Why are you standing here, meri jaan?" he asked as he kissed her forehead. Sonakshi felt something twist in her stomach when he called her using such sweet endearments.

"Is something wrong?" Sona asked worriedly and Dev just shrugged, shaking his head in denial.

"Do you want to have breakfast with us?" he asked as she looked at the table and saw Neha winking at her. She gasped as turned towards him.

"No.....I will have breakfast later..." she tried but he wasn't having any of it. Dev tried to drag her but she folded her hands and shook her head strongly.

"Dev....I can't..." she whispered.

"Why not?" he asked as his anger was slowly lacing in.

"I can't stand everyone looking at me differently... I will have breakfast once everyone is gone" she spoke looking down at her feet. Dev couldn't understand what was wrong with her.

"Why not? No one would say anything Sona" he tried coaxing.

"No.....Neha just winked at me. I am feeling so embarrassed.... What must she have thought when she didn't find me in her room this morning?" Sonakshi blabbered, feeling the anxiety killing her slowly.

"Don't worry.....she would have thought that her bhabhi was missing her bhai! "Dev said having an amused expression as he smiled lopsidedly. He badly wanted to pull her legs and tease her. But her worried expressions just stopped him from continuing further.

"You are so mean!" Sona said, limping away from him. Dev quickly grabbed her shoulders and steadied her. Coaxing her into agreeing, he finally manged to bring her to the dining table. She slowly walked towards the dining table and greeted everyone.

Dev somehow liked her this way. Although she didn't remember her past, she was happy. Genuinely happy.... He didn't want her to recall everything and fall back in the same darkness. He feared that her memories would cause a great disaster in their relationship. What if she gets to know about her unborn child? Were her memories a gift or a curse? Now all he wished was, for her to stay this way...happy and contended.

But how long?

Neha tried to pull Sonakshi's legs. But Dev gave her a warning glare and she quickly kept quiet. Ishwari passed by and saw everyone in the dining table. Seeing Dev's softened features, gave her a new confidence and hope. She badly wanted to redeem herself. Knowing that Dev won't do anything in front of Sonakshi, she leisurely walked to the table and took a seat just opposite to Sonakshi.

The atmosphere suddenly turned tensed. Jay stilled as he signalled Ishwari to go away. But Ishwari just sat up straight and gave an awkward smile to Sonakshi. Sonakshi by now had suspected that she was Dev's mother. But she still waited for Dev to introduce her.

Sona waited for someone to speak but the silence just grew. The silence lingered in the air, thick and heavy, like a blanket. Sonakshi slowly leaned in towards Dev.

"Who is she?" she whispered as Dev clenched his fists. His head snapped towards Sonakshi and stared at her with an intensity that scared her to the core. She didn't know what she had done that he was showing his anger to her. She gulped her nervousness and turned back to her food.

As Dev scanned his mother's face for a reaction, the silence hung in the air like the suspended moment before a falling glass shatters on the ground. Sonakshi gasped as her hands flew to her chest. Dev had broken a glass in anger? Sona had never seen this side of Dev and it really stirred fear inside her.

"It's better if you leave this place right now without any drama.... Or else the consequences will be very bad Mrs Ishwari Dixit!" he said in a calm tone as everyone looked at him with a frightened look.

He never argued with his fists, but his words packed a powerful punch. Carefully spoken, without drama, his words had an air of finality to them and no matter how hard everyone railed against them, nothing would change his mind. Jay tried to intervene and stop him but when it comes to Ishwari, Dev wasn't under anyone's control.

"Dev....just let her be." Jay said but Dev was back to being his arrogant self again. This time, he took another glass and broke it on the floor with a loud shatter.

"Aaaah" Sonakshi screamed as Ishwari jolted up from her place. She was horrified with Dev's behaviour. Yes, she expected him to be angry. But his violent behaviour shocked her to another extreme. He didn't even bother about Sonakshi's state. Sonakshi gripped Neha's arms while Kichu was standing at the corner, not knowing what to do. Jay and Neha were baffled seeing Dev's state.

Anger blinded him. His temper was like the explosives, once the sparks started to sizzle there was very little time to duck and cover. Ishwari knew she should just stay quiet and wait for the storm to abate, but she couldn't help the fear running inside her.

"Dev..." Ishwari started but Dev cut in.

"JUST GET LOST.... I DON'T WANT TO SEE YOU EVER AGAIN!" he screamed as Ishwari gasped.

That was in fact the first time she had seen him lost control like that. Even though he punished Radharani and Nisha in his own way, he never really spoke to Ishwari in a rude manner. But today, something sparked inside him. Something which made him lose control.

Ishwari knew that she shouldn't be there anymore. So without saying a word, she walked away from that place, with her head hung low. The amount of embarrassment she faced that day was something she would always remember.

Once Ishwari was gone, Dev tried to calm himself down. But little did he realise the damage that he created for himself was beyond redeemable.

When he turned next to him, he saw a frightened Sonakshi, holding Neha by her shoulders. She looked pale and exhausted. Her state made him panic. Her breathing sped and her eyes fluttered open. She stared at him with fear while tears were brimming in the corner of her eyes. When he moved towards her and held her wrists, she flinched like his touch burned her.

"Dev..... What the hell Dev! Don't you have any sense? Is this how you behave early in the morning?" Jay spoke in frustration.

"I know what I am doing, and I would appreciate if no one interferes in my business!" he spoke rudely as Sonakshi gawked at him.

One time he appeared calm and the other time, he was speaking like an arrogant jerk. She couldn't understand what was going inside his mind. 'Was he bipolar?' she thought.

But for now, all she wanted was to be away from him. She feared his behaviour, and for the first time, he made her uncomfortable. She felt her eyes beginning to burn, but she kept telling herself that she shouldn't cry. She quickly loosened her hold on Neha and stride away from the dining table leaving everyone speechless.

Dev clenched his eyes as he knew that now, convincing Sona was not going to be easy.

-------------------------

After the morning argument, Dev left for office in a bad mood while Sonakshi moved to Neha's room again. None of them talked to each other after that. Jay and Neha tried to lighten the situation but nothing worked. Soon Jay left for office and Neha too got busy. Only Ishwari was at home. Dev's morning outburst was still piercing her heart repeatedly as she sat on the living area like a lifeless soul. The entire house was in a mess. No one was happy. Everyone was sulking and living their own sorrows.

For the first time, Ishwari regretted breaking the family. She regretted her doings. Everything she did, had now broken her entire family. She cried reminiscing those days where everyone would sit together and have a joyous dinner. Just when she was on her own world, she felt the seat beside her sinking. Someone cleared their throat. When Ishwari turned, she froze in her place.

Sonakshi....

"Hi...... I just came to ask where did the rest of them went?" Sonakshi asked as Ishwari gulped and looked around.

"Everyone went for work........I think Neha is in her room." Ishwari said as she tried and looked everywhere except Sona.

"Ouh.......actually..... I came to see you....."

"Yes.... What's wrong?" Ishwari asked as she was afraid that Dev would have told everything to Sonakshi by now.

"Actually....you look beautiful. You remind me of my mother." Sonakshi said as Ishwari's eyes widened. This was the last thing that she had expected from Sonakshi.

"Actually..... I don't know what's the problem between you and Dev but I hope everything will be alright soon.... Please don't worry" Sonakshi said and smiled. That one smile was enough to make Ishwari feel like an antagonist in their relationship.

She couldn't even have a direct eye contact as all the memories came back. Sonakshi have been nothing but an angel to their family. She had never disrespected Ishwari at any moment. She didn't feel this much of guilt even when she separated them 4 years ago....but now, the guilt sat like a rock in her chest. It made it too heavy to even move. She smiled forcefully and nodded while Sonakshi smiled and walked away to Neha's room.

------------------------------------

Dev was narrating his entire story to Jatin who looked gobsmacked with the turn of events. Jatin didn't know whether he should feel angry or sad for Dev. Dev was fighting his inner turmoil. But at the same time, he was trying to be normal for Sonakshi. Jatin knew that it wasn't easy for someone like Dev to change overnight.

"Dude!!! Are you trying to chase Sona away from your house again?" Jatin asked as Dev gave him a hard stare.

"I didn't fucking mean it, Jatin. You know how angry I can get when my mum comes into the picture! She can be such a............"

"Such a??" Jatin raised his eyebrow and looked at Dev to continue. But Dev just sighed and looked away.

There was something in that shout, a pain behind it as Jatin watched. He watched Dev's eyes and he instantly knew it. The anger was nothing but a shield for pain, like a cornered soldier randomly throwing out explosives, scared for his life, being lonely and desperate. Jatin sighed as he knew that Dev's way of dealing with pain was different from normal people. He is still that broken man who was betrayed by his own family. That arrogance and hatred were all a mask to cover his pure selfless soul.

"Look Dev! I know you are angry with your mum. But that doesn't mean that you will just release your anger and be an ass in front of everyone. Especially when Sona is around. Whatever it is, please solve it personally..... Your first mistake is, you always deal with your emotions in the centre of your house! Please give everyone their privacy, Dev! Isolating your mum from the dining table is not a punishment!!" Jatin said calmly as Dev listened to him patiently.

For the first time, Dev wanted to listen to Jatin and follow him because he always spoke sensibly and his advices always worked better, especially when it came to Sonakshi. Jatin was the only guy whom Dev trusted Sonakshi with because the care and concern Jatin had for Sona was really genuine.

"Fine.....I will try and be more patient but..... tell me! How should I convince Sona now?" Dev asked as Jatin smiled at him.

"Come on! It's not hard to convince a woman who loves you!" Jatin winked..

------------------

It was a tiring day and Dev got down from his car to walk in, when he saw a someone blocking the entrance. When he walked closer, he realised that the person was none other than his dearest cousin.

Nisha

He internally smirked and glared at her. She gulped and stood at the corner waiting for him to speak.

"Welcome back Miss Nisha..... I am too tired to entertain you now. You can take the guest room for now! I will see you tomorrow morning.............And hey, just remember. Never show your filthy face to Sona until I say so!" he warned and walked away.

Nisha stood there horrified with his tone. She thought that he would have forgiven her and forgotten his hatred, but little did she know that there was more things yet to be revealed. After a few minutes, Radharani walked in behind her with her suitcase. With no other choice, both of them moved to the guest room, careful enough to not wake anyone for the night.

Dev showered and went to search for Sonakshi, when he met Neha in the kitchen. Neha informed him that Sonakshi wasn't feeling well as she was down with high fever since evening. She also informed that they had called the doctor and the medicines have been prescribed. Dev's face turned restless as he quickly rushed inside Neha's room.

Dev's POV

The first thing I saw was her hand dangling from the bed. She looked like a drugged patient. My eyes travelled to her face, which was covered by her silky hair. I walked closer and knelt down. I slowly held her hand and blinked. She stirred in her sleep as I gulped and placed her hand near her belly. She moved again, and this time, she tightened her grasp around my hand as I felt a jolt of electricity run through me. Her hands were slightly warm as she blinked lightly and tried to open her eyes.

"Hey...." I whispered as I saw her frown.

"You came home so late..." she whispered as a smile came to my lips. I slowly caressed her forehead and removed her hair from her face. Her voice was so heavy and she was slurring like a drunk person. I guess the drug had too much of effect on my baby.

I quickly placed my arms under her back and the other under her knees. She moaned and struggled to be free but I instantly scooped her up in my arms as I felt her fisting my shirt tightly.

"I...hat..breakglasgymother" she started slurring as I hummed.

I walked up to my room and she moaned slightly causing me to stop and look down at her. She was mumbling something and I had to admit. It was the cutest sight. I shook my head and walked inside the room. I rested my knee on the bed and lowered her but her hands were still fisting my shirt. I smiled and rested my hands on hers trying to get my shirt free but she pouted and shook her head. I blinked and rested my eyes on her beautiful face. It was glowing with innocence and beauty that I couldn't look away from that sight.

"Ihaglabrae" she mumbled

"What?"

"I........hate guys w-who break gla-glasses" her eyes were once again closed. I sighed and frowned. So now she hates me? Great!

"But I thought you love me?" I asked as I took her hands and kissed her knuckles. Her eyes opened slowly and she blinked. She pouted and pulled her hands away from my grip. But this time, I was fast enough to clutch it back.

"You.........sc-scared me........,just now" she breathed as I looked at her in concern. She was right. I didn't know why I was so angry in the morning. She had nothing to do in this! Why can't I behave like a normal human being? I was always a pain for my sweetheart.

"I am sorry.......I promise I won't behave like that ever again. Or at least I will try to..." I said as I saw a small smile on her lips in that drowsy state.

"Really?" she whispered.

"Really! Ok now you have to promise me that you will sleep in our room, from now on! Ok?" I asked and she nodded

"Okay" she replied softly and closed her eyes.

"Owwww.....My head hurts!" she groaned as I cuddled her on the bed.

"It will be ok.....just try and get some sleep..." I patted but she kept fidgeting and rubbing her head on my chest. It was really a cute sight to see a vulnerable and annoyed Sonakshi. After some time, she slowly closed her eyes while her breathing became normal.

I dipped my hands in my pocket and pulled out my mobile.

"Hello..." my PA, Nikitha answered.

"Nikitha, I will send you the details of a few medicines. I need you to get them for me tomorrow."

"Ok sure sir" she replied immediately as I hung up.

'Now, it's time for some game!' I thought as I heard a soft sound near me.

Damn, I knew that this was going to be a long night!

"Sona?"

"Knoosbhsghh" she mumbled in her sleep as I sighed and hugged her closer.

"I got you love..... I got you!"
