Home Free
I want to go home and rest
But that is a dream for me
No rest in a place of test
Swatted around like a flea
Told I'm no more than a pest
What I need is to be free
But freedom comes with a price
Hunger is now my best friend
Before my world turns to ice
Travel south for warming trend
My options feel like a vise
Will life's horror never end?
And then one day I awoke
In a warm and cozy bed
Everywhere hospital folk
And sharp pain pounds in my head
My words come out in a croak
"Lucky to be here," they said
My life took a turn that day
Kind folks were eager to serve
First steps to make life less gray
Helped me hold my inner nerve
I no longer flee like prey
Have plans and I will not swerve!
