A few hours, days, or whatever has passed, she woke up in her own bed. Confused, she stood up, and made her way to the door frame before leaning. She saw her roommate, Estel. He was leaning against the kitchen wall on his phone. “Hey, Halo. You’re finally up.” He waved.
“Estel? I thought you’d be sleeping..” She stood up straight, moving her weight from the door frame to her leg and scratching her head nervously. “Nah, I saw you bleeding in an alley the other day… actually, no, you were found by the police and they brought you to me..”
“Wait, how much time has it been since–?”
“About 2 days. You’ll have to change clothes, though, since you’re still in your hoodie..”
She looked down at her stained attire, noticing it’s still the same. She sighed. “I’ll go change, then.” She turned around and made her way to her room, changing into a blue shirt and leggings as she went back to the kitchen. Estel looked her up and down before putting down his phone.
“So, I heard you got a pretty brutal bite, huh? Let me see…” He walked forward, moving Halio’s hair and the collar of her shirt so that he could inspect the bite. He winced. “That looks baad…”
Halio released a worried breath, feeling around on her neck and eventually feeling the bite, which she retracted her hand immediately.
“Ow…”
Estel sighed, pulling back from her.
“Yeah, I wouldn’t touch that.. Y’need some ice?”
“That’d be great, thanks.”
She sighed, as Estel turned his back to her, moving to the cabinets where he grabbed a bag, then opening the freezer and placing ice in the bag. Halio could hear the freezer close as she sat down on a nearby chair, and Estel pressed the ice to her neck. She winced again.
“Damn, just how bad were you—”
He trailed off, clearing his throat as he sat down next to Halio and held the ice bag to her neck for just a while more before she took his hand.
“I got it, thanks.”
