Agent Effie Hawkins started working as an FBI Agent for the BAU to save people, to save children. She's quite aware of the obvious cliché here -- that she wanted to save people because she felt she needed saving.
But in Effie's case, the cliché is dead on. Suffice to say, her childhood was not a happy one. And then she got pregnant and had Emmitt. The father doesn't know and didn't need to; he was just some asshole one night stand she had at a bar one night with her team but she knew she had to give birth to this little boy growing inside of her.
It was a tectonic shift where everything she thought she knew about herself got rearranged. It was like she finally fell in love for real. All the cracks and missing pieces came together, Effie felt whole. She'd found her soulmate in her son.
When she first had Emmitt she couldn't stop smelling his head, it made her feel drowsy and giddy, like they were in the middle of a lavender field in the south of France. The smell was real. He truly smelled like fresh lavender.
That smell was and always will be Effie's drug of choice. Effie always wondered if she ever really loved anyone she dated because her feelings for them were never as powerful as her feelings for Emmitt. It was a special kind of love. Maybe a once in a lifetime thing. And then he disappeared.
At first, every time you hear the phone, you think they've found him. Your heart pounds. Then after a month or so, the phone is just the phone. You do whatever you need to soldier on, because you tell yourself, time is on your side.
And then a year has gone by and you understand that the next year will not be much different. This feeling will never go away because there's no getting over it, there is no getting to the other side.
Admittedly, Effie tried to kill herself the first time she realized that. She couldn't live without her son but her mistake was choosing to slit her wrists in the bathtub of her apartment the same night her best friend Spencer was over. He saved her life.
Now she continues to carry on, mostly for her best friend and team, but there are many days when she doesn't really know why. Some days are bearable. Today is very hard. It's one of those days she doesn't even want to crawl out of her bed but she just got her supervisors text saying there had been another murder.
So she crawls out of bed with a sigh before getting dressed and making her way to the office building where a bunch of the employees were killed. Effie was now walking around observing the scene in front of her as she tried to get her mind off of Emmitt.
"I got the guys checking on Islamic terrorist groups active in the area. You know, this could be another Charlie Hebdo thing." Detective Hahn says.
"This is a gossip site." Effie says, observing what's on the computer screens in front of the deceased.
Then she walks over near a dead woman, seeing her tongue hanging out of her mouth and nailed to the table in front of her.
"He stopped their tongues from wagging. Thou Shalt Not Bear False Witness." Effie says as she continues making her way around the crime scene, "These people trafficked in lies, they broke the Commandment."
When Effie makes it back to the hotel she's on a call with Penelope Garcia, the BAU's resident techie, and one of her best friends.
"Pen, could you have ballistics run a check on the casings at the scene with casings from previous murders." Effie says to her co-worker who resided back at base in Quantico behind the safety of her computer screens.
"All of the cases?" Penelope asks her.
"Yeah, all of them." Effie replies.
"Gotcha, I'll be right on it and if I find anything I will let you know my little sugarplum." Her peppy voice says.
"Thank you Garcia, there may be a previous Commandment murder that we missed."
"I'll cross-reference and see if anything matches anything."
"I'm not sure, but I think--" The agent stops, dropping her phone as she sees a bloody man stumble into her.
"Help... me..." The man whispers quietly as he was dying.
Effie didn't know what to do so she called an ambulance and now they were here, in a hospital.
"Are we looking at an overdose here?" Effie asks the doctors, curious as to what was going on with the man.
"You would think so, but everything's telling me withdrawals. I don't think this man's had a needle in him in a few days, at least."
"The blood?" The agent questions.
"Not his." The nurse replies.
The man suddenly gasps and starts moving around on the stretcher.
"Let's get him sedated." The main nurse says.
"No! Please! I'm sorry! I didn't mean it!" The man on the stretcher yells.
"Wait! Wait! Wait!" Effie yells at the nurses.
"Please. I'm sorry." The man mutters this time.
"Wait, why are you sorry?" Effie questions the dying man.
"Agent!" The nurse yells.
"I didn't mean to kill her." He whispers.
"Wait, wait, who? Who did you kill?" The agent asks, desperate for answers.
"I thought it was the other one. The junkie whore."
"Sally? You mean Sally?" She asks.
"She did this to me. She lied to me. She said that I'd be free."
"Okay! We got to go, we got to go!" The nurse yells at the agent, pushing her out of the way as the man struggles against them.
"We're losing him." One of the nurses says.
The man suddenly flatlines and then he's gone. Just like that. Another person dead.

The tired agent feels herself sigh as she walks out of the elevator and down the hallways towards her room, hopefully to get some much needed sleep but she knows that's probably not likely as she hasn't slept great the past few nights.
As she's walking down the hallway she sees the maid cart outside of an open door and she peeks in the room, seeing Mrs Evers changing the bedding.
"I hear she checked out." Comes Sally's voice from across the hall.
"Who did?" The agent asked her.
"That shit don't stink fashion editor. Guess this place wasn't up to her standards. Not everyone can appreciate it here, all this lovely darkness. You know what I mean?" She says.
"No. I really don't." Agent Hawkins says as she grabs Sally by her arm before she could disappear into her room, "Why don't you tell me about your friend?"
"Which one?" She questions.
"The one at St Vincent's, junkie, covered in blood, not his."
"Oh, well, junkies, you can't believe a word they say." Sally says, ripping her arm away from the agent and opening the door further before walking in.
Effie Hawkins follows her when she does, "Who was he?"
"How the hell should I know? Why are you wasting your time on junkies? We only hurt ourselves." She says before putting a cigarette in her mouth and lighting it after.
"It's not like breaking one of the Ten Commandments." The woman continues, glancing at the agent with a smirk on her face.
"What did you say?" Effie questions.
"What? Didn't you go to Sunday school?" The woman says as she approaches the agent.
"How about Thou Shalt Not Kill?" Effie Hawkins says to the woman approaching her.
"Hmm. Well, that Commandment is always translated wrong. It should be 'Thou Shalt Not Commit Murder' killing can be a righteous act." Sally says, right in front of the agent's face.
Effie grabs the woman and shoves her against the door, "You've been in my room."
"No. But if that's an invitation..." She whispers.
"How about this for an invitation?" Agent Effie says as she holds her handcuffs up, "You're under arrest."
"Goody." Sally whispers again, a smirk on her lips.
"I know you sent me that text. I don't know how deeply you're involved, or if you're working with someone, or maybe you're just starved for attention." Agent Hawkins says to the cuffed woman she drags beside her down the hall.
"I am starving. You're starving too. I can taste it on you. Come on agent, show me right from wrong." She says before trying to unzip the agents pants.
Effie pushes her away with a gasp, "I want to help you!" She yells.
"I wish you could." Sally says.
Then all of a sudden Agent Effie was in the elevator completely alone and confused to where Sally could have gone.

So there Effie was, yet again standing and staring off the balcony of the bar, watching as the elevator rises before her. That's when Spencer steps out of the elevator and walks over to her.
"I didn't mean to just show up like this, I tried calling. But I just kept getting your voicemail." Spencer says, sitting at the table near the balcony.
"White Wine, Soda Pop." The barista Liz says, handing the wine to Spencer and the soda to Effie.
"Is everything okay? You're fidgety." Spencer asks, noticing his friend's tell.
"It's just this case has been getting to me a lot more than I should let it." Effie says with a sigh, finally sitting at the table in front of Spencer.
"You look terrible, when's the last time you slept?" He questions her.
"I'm fine, Spencer." Effie says as she takes a sip of her soda.
"Are you sure Effie?" Spencer asks again.
And that's when she broke down and started sobbing, taking deep breaths as she did, grabbing Spencer's arm gently, "S-Something's wrong with me. I-I think I'm going crazy. I feel like I've been seeing things."
"Let's get you back to your room, okay?" Spencer says to her calmingly.
The girl weakly nods before letting him lead her back to room sixty-four.
Back in the woman's room Spencer takes it all in, seeing her board she had set up with all the crime scene pictures from the case, lines connecting certain things with the proper Commandment that was broken near it.
"Christ, It's no wonder you're in such a state, sleeping five feet from all of that. You need a break from this case Effie, I really think you should do what we talked about before and resign for a little while." Spencer says, looking at the distressed girl.
"I don't do much sleeping anymore." She whispers out, glancing at the board beside them.
"Which is why you're going to take these." Spencer says as he hands her two sleeping pills, "Drink them down."
As she tosses the pills into her mouth and sips her glass of water to swallow them she feels the back of Spencer's warm hand against her forehead.
"You don't have a fever, you just need some rest. A few hours sleep and everything will be clearer, okay?" Doctor Reid says to his best friend, pulling the covers back for her to lay down in her bed.
Effie nods in thanks to her best friend before she climbs under the covers and looks up at Spencer before the girl falls fast asleep thanks to the sleeping pills her friend gave to her, Spence always seemed to know when she needed taken care of and she appreciated that.

When the still slightly tired agent woke up her room was empty, Spencer must have already left. Effie decides to get up and leave her room as she walks down the hallways towards the elevator.
She notices that it's not working so she starts to head towards the stairwell she knew the building had, she turns a corner to see a bloody half naked black woman standing in the middle of the hall, the same woman she met at the fashion show, Claudia.
"Is this hell? No. Because if it were, I'd be the one wearing that awful knockoff that you're wearing." The woman says before clicking her tongue.
Then the woman disappears and the agent turns around to go down another hallway, when she turns down it she hears giggling. A little boy's giggling, her little boy's giggling.
Then she sees him at the end of the hallway and starts quickly walking down it towards the image of her son. This time though, the boy didn't run. He stayed standing right where he was as his mother approached.
Effie leans down in front of him and looks him over, "Emmitt?"
"Hi, Mommy." Emmitt says to her before Effie hugs her son tightly.
"Oh, baby, mommy has missed you so much. Have you been here this whole time?" She asks him.
"Yes mommy, I've been waiting for you to find me."
"Then why did you run every time I chased you through these halls before?" Effie questions, still holding her son in her arms.
"Because I was scared you wouldn't remember me and then Spencer found me and told me you missed me. I missed you too mommy." Emmitt says, hugging his mother tighter.
"Then please come home with me. To my room here in the hotel."
"I would love that mommy." Emmitt says with a smile on his face.
"I love you so much Emmitt."
"I love you too mommy."

Effie found her son!!
Also in this one she
takes Alex's place in the
episode if you didn't know,
so basically she will be filling
both John and Alex's roles
in the show and their
daughter doesn't exist
in my version of
the story.
