Effie woke up the next morning after her rebirth feeling more alive than she ever had, then she realizes she is really late for work.
Emmitt smiles as he notices his mother is waking up, him already being awake and still in his pajamas.
"You're like me now mommy!" Emmitt says happily, hugging her tightly.
"Yes I am baby! Now we can be together forever." Effie says with a smile, "But right now mommy is really late for work so we need to get ready and then have some quick breakfast before you head to Elizabeth's."
"Okay mommy! I'll help! I'll get my clothes and sockies." Emmitt says excitedly, getting out of bed and running to the dresser to get his own clothes.
While he does that she grabs out a sippy cup of blood for him and a water bottle full of blood for herself giggling a bit as her son stumbles with his clothes to sit on the bed.
Effie smiles and sits their drinks on the side table before changing him out of his pajamas and into the yellow dinosaur shirt and black shorts that he picked out along with one yellow and one black sock, the boy taking after his mother.
After she dresses him she hands him his sippy cup before going to grab her own clothes, deciding on some black skinny jeans that were ripped at the knees and a red floral print t-shirt with one unicorn sock and one cat sock, Effie may have been an adult but she couldn't resist cute animal socks.
She changes in the bathroom quickly before grabbing her and Emmitt's matching black and white converse before slipping them onto his feet before doing the same with her own.
Once they're both dressed Effie grabs her drink and starts to take a few drinks of it as she gets her go bag ready for work before sitting with her son as they both completely finish their drinks of blood. Effie sits both of the empty bottles on top of the mini fridge in the room.
"Can you make your way to the playroom yourself this morning baby or do you want me to walk you?" She asks her son before they walk out the door.
"I know you're late mommy I can walk myself, I love you mommy! I'll see you when you get home." Emmitt says, hugging his mother tightly.
"I love you too baby, I'll see you later on." She then kisses his forehead before opening the door to the room and heading towards the lobby once she's locked the door.
After she's outside she notices a missed call from her boss, Aaron Hotchner, so she quickly calls him back.
"Hello?" His voice says through the line.
"I saw you called me I just left the hotel so my service wasn't working until now, what did you need?" Effie questions as she sits in her car in the parking lot.
"I need you to go investigate the hospital, they say they have someone being held there for the Ten Commandment killings. And if so I need you to go interview them." Aaron's voice says through the phone.
"Alright, I'll report back after I'm finished." She said before hanging up the phone and driving to the hospital the person was being contained in.
When she arrived at the hospital she was aimlessly wondering through the halls, trying not to bring any attention to herself just yet.
"Did you hear the one about the tongue? Cut out of the victim's head with a hacksaw and nailed to the floor with a hammer while she was alive." Comes a male voice from farther down the hallway.
"You're freaking me out. That monster is here, right behind that door?" A woman's voice questions next.
"What kind of psycho thinks of that shit? Much less do it." The male questions.
Effie observes the two, hidden in the hallway pretending to read over the file in her hand.
"And they only have one guard at the door?" The nurse questions him.
"I'm plenty enough for anything." The guard says.
"Well you better watch that door, make sure nothing comes out." The nurse says as she walks off to get back to work.
Awhile after the nurse leaves Effie stumbles through the hall toward the young guard, falling over and knocking things off the man's desk as she falls, groaning, trying to catch him off guard.
He jumps up out of his seat and rushes over to Effie, "Are you okay?"
Effie grabs the cafeteria tray that she knocked on the ground, hitting the guard in the head with it, knocking him out and taking his key card and keys before she looks through the book of names to find the room number she needed to go to.
She quietly snuck around the halls until she made it right outside of the door she needs to be at, room one-hundred-fifty-three. When she gets there she peeks inside of it, grabbing the keys to unlock the door afterwards.
The door swings open to reveal a little girl who couldn't be too old standing in the center of it, staring at Effie as she enters the room.
The agent closes the door behind her, her eyes never leaving the little girl's eyes, "Who are you?"
"I am Wren." She replies.
"You didn't eat your dinner." Effie points out.
"I'm not hungry for that..." Wren whispers quietly.
"They can get you something else to eat." The agent tells her.
"I don't want to feed anymore." The girl whispers.
"Why did they put you in here Wren?" Effie questions her.
"I wouldn't talk to them." She replied.
"To the police officer? Detective Hahn?" Effie asks.
Wren nods her head in response, staring Effie down.
"They found you at the television station, you saw what happened." The agent says.
"I helped." The girl says confidently.
"You must have been terrified, the man you saw has done a lot of bad things, ugly, scary things. But you don't have to be afraid of him anymore, do you believe that?" Effie says as the two watch each other, studying the person in front of them.
"I do. But nobody forced me to do anything." The girl says, a slight smile slivering onto her face.
"You killed the security guard?" Effie questions.
"He was going to catch him." Wren says.
"I want to know we can trust each other, Wren." The agent says, "I won't lie to you, can you promise the same to me?"
"I was there the other times. When he nailed their tongues to the table. When he hung the brothers from the beds, he cut open their stomachs, it stunk. Now do you believe me?" Wren says, observing the agent.
"You were there? Whatever he made you do, whatever you think you did, he's responsible, it's not your fault." Effie says to the young girl.
"It is my fault. Everything that happened." The girl says.
"Please, don't say that. You need to know it was him, not you."
"I like you. You're nothing like my father. When I was young, my daddy told me he couldn't wait for me to grow up. He told me I was going to be his little lady. The way he said it, it made my stomach hurt. It got so I didn't want to sleep, because every time I woke up I was a day closer. One day he left me in a car while he went drinking at the Cortez. It was so crazy hot I was like a pizza in an oven. But I didn't open the window and I didn't say a word because I thought maybe there was a way I didn't have to grow up. But I found another way, now I think growing up maybe wouldn't have been so bad. It can't be worse than this." Wren rambles out.
"Wren I don't understand, did your father do this? He's the killer?" Effie questions.
"No! He died a long time ago, I'm just so sick of this whole thing, I don't want it anymore." The girl explains.
"Then let it go. Tell me who he is." Effie almost begs the little girl.
"I can't!" Wren yells.
"Why are you protecting someone who doesn't deserve anything from you?" The agent questions.
"You wouldn't believe me." Wren answers.
"He's going to keep killing people unless you help me stop him!" Effie yells, getting frustrated.
"Get me out of here and I'll show you where he lives." The girl says.
"We're not playing a game here Wren." The agent says.
"Maybe it's time he got caught." Wren tells the agent.
"Then let's get you out of here." Effie says, opening up the door and peeking out to make sure it's clear before signaling the girl to follow her.
Once they make it out of the building Effie tosses the guard's keys and key card on the ground, no longer in need of them anymore before grabbing Wren's hand, running up the hill and hopping the fence.
After they're away from the hospital Wren rips her bracelet off, looking at the agent as they walk down the sidewalk.
"Okay, I got you out. Now you take me to him." The agent says sternly, "Wren."
"Then we need to go home." Wren replies.
"Where?" Effie asks.
"The Cortez." The girl answers.
"Alright don't be afraid. When I find him I'm going to bury him in a hole so deep he'll never see the light of day. It's time to make him stop." The angry woman says, looking at the girl.
"Will you kill him?" She asks.
"If I have to." Effie answers.
"I really like you." Wren says to the agent, "I hate to see it end. Goodbye Effie."
Then the girl runs out in front of the semi driving down the street quickly, hitting and killing the little girl.
"No, Wren!" Effie yells, a tear slipping down her cheek at the sight.
The agent runs out into the street after her, looking at her body laying on the cold asphalt beneath her.
The trucker gets out of his truck, taking his hat off, "She ran out in the middle of the road. I had no chance to stop."
"She's dead." A woman says after checking the young girl's pulse.
Effie turns away from the scene, a few more tears rolling down her cheeks as she heads back towards home, to the Hotel Cortez.
