Chapter Eighteen

Luca

"I didn't come with body guards. Though everyone else did it felt like a parade at the drive through," Rami said and started laughing. "I got this from Italy," showing me his single - shot pistol covered in gold. It's beautiful. " It cost me a fortune but it's worth it."

I took it from his hand and studied it, it's magnificent. I gave it back to him. I looked behind my shoulder, only to see Clara standing frozen in the middle of the field. "Rami I'll catch up with you later. Just cover for me in the meeting," I said as I turned my feet and walked towards Clara.

I stood in front of her, she stared at the ground. I held her chin and made her look at me. She flinched when she saw me. "What's wrong Clara?" I asked her.

"I can't move," she said in a low tone.

"Why? What's wrong?" I asked.

"Guns..." she said looking at the body guards who stood outside the mansion, holding riffles.
I held her hand, it was cold. I looked into her hazel orbs and all I could see was fear and tears lingering in her eyes. I stood closer to her. She closed her eyes, tears trickled down her cheeks. I hugged her.

"They are just security men. Nobody is going to get hurt," I assured her. I had to carry her bridal style, she couldn't move. I carried her all the way to our room. I kept her on the bed and gave her a glass of water. Clara looked petrified. Maybe bringing Clara to Spain was a bad idea.

"I have to go now. I'll be back soon," I told her and left the room. I walked towards the room where the meeting was being held. I heard my aunt's loud assertive voice. I entered the room and all eyes were on me.

"Finally you've arrived your highness," my father said in a sarcastic tone. Everyone is here, my grandmother, my uncles and aunt, my cousins. All the remaining Salvador's, except for Vanessa. She wants nothing to do with this. I sat next to Rami who started whispering to me, filling me in on everything that I missed.

"An heir will be our savior," my aunt said. What's an heir got to do with the Vendettas, I thought to myself. "Death will come for us and when it swings it will not miss. We know not of when or where but at least we will die knowing the reign of Salvador lives. That is my final conclusion until than we will fight back and we will not show any mercy. They killed our own, and I will not rest until each and every one them burns alive. We have found out their hide out, a bomb has been placed near their whereabouts. It will be activated tomorrow, during the ball in the evening."

A ball and a bomb? This has never happened before, it's not the Salvador way. When it's personal, we track  them down and kill them with our own hands. This is insane. A bomb won't only kill the Vendettas, and destroy their hideouts but the people in that area will be harmed as well. Oh god, innocent lives will be taken.

"I don't think that's a good idea. A bomb will not solve this aunt," I said, everyone turned to look at me. Shocked that I questioned my aunts decision.

"What do you prepose then? A peace treaty? Or should I send flowers and chocolates," she said. They were quiet giggles and curious eyes looking at me - waiting for my response.

"A negotiation wouldn't be the worst thing. If it will prevent the death of innocent lives," I spoke out.

"They need to know who we are and what we are capable of. You don't kill one of us and just get to walk away. Whoever will die due to the bomb their death won't be on our hands but the Vendetta's."

"I won't stand by it," I said firmly. " I am not going to be apart of this."

"You don't have to agree to be a part of it Lucas, because you already are. You are a Salvador," my aunt told me - looking at me dead in the eyes. "This is not up for discussion." I walked out of the room. I couldn't take it anymore, a fucking bomb. It's a rival threat. This is crazy. And they are holding ball, so they can activate a bomb.

Clara

I woke up early in the morning and got dressed. I wore a black dress and made my hair into a bun. Luca wore a black suit, we were going to the burial site. Which was only a ten minute drive. Since yesterday Luca has been really quiet and acting different. I wonder why...

I am still getting used to the security men with big guns, it's just a frighting site. A flashback of that night. We were at the burial site and all the security men surrounded us. Forming like some sort of blockade. Luca's entire family had come, his grandmother, uncles, aunties and cousins. They were a lot, a clan I could describe. I watched three confines being buried with sand. I couldn't help it but cry. I thought of Ava, I didn't go to her funeral.

I looked around me, nobody was crying. I couldn't even catch a glimpse of sympathy, everyone had a straight face on — a facade perhaps. Which made it even more depressing, to me. Aunt Amelia gave a speech about his brother and her niece and nephews, how they were cruelly murdered and that they will never be forgotten. It was a really touching speech, Aunt Amelia almost shed a tear. Almost. I held Luca's hand, and he looked at me and gave me a faint smile. My heart sinked inside my chest, I could tell Luca is hiding something from me. I mean his eyes are a gateway, I see only what he shows.

After the funeral we headed back to the mansion and food was at sight and drinks. I don't know what went through me but I started stuffing my mouth with the chocolate pastry it was so good. Vanessa was no where to be seen nor Luca. I was worried. I was left with the Salvador clan, who aren't the most friendly. An old lady approached me her walk steady, she had winter white short hair, faded skin, an angelic smile and aged wise eyes. She kept her hand on my stomach. I looked down to watch her hand.

"The baby..." she spoke her voice fragile. My eyes widen and I took a step backwards.

"No I am not pregnant," I told her sure of every world I said. Me, Pregnant? Uh no. She walked towards me and placed her hand on my stomach again.

"The heir," she said. Heir?

"I am not pregnant," I told her and walked away. What is she talking about? Maybe she's just confused and really old. I made my way back to the room, as soon as I entered the room. I felt uneasy and nauseous. I rushed to the bath room and I started vomiting in the sink.

It must be all the food I had. I walked out of the bathroom and went to sit on the bed. I heard a knock on the door. "Come in!" I yelled. The door opened and I saw Vanessa holding a beautiful dress.

"I brought your dress for the ball!" She said in an excited tone.

"Ball?" I asked confused. She kept the dress on the couch and approached me.

"Oh you don't look so well. Are you okay?" She spoke concerned.

"Yeah I just had a lot of chocolate pastries. I am not feeling so good," I told her part of the truth. I didn't want her to worry.

"Oh okay. Don't worry you'll feel better once you rest," she said.

"Yeah," I replied.

"Luca choose it actually, the dress. There's going to be a ball tonight," she said.

"Hah he did?" I stood up and walked to where the dresses was placed - on the couch. It's stunning. "I love it!" I said still staring at the dress.

"Great. I have to go now, you get your rest. I'll be back in the evening with a hair stylist and make up artist," she told me. I looked at her confused, though I was excited. I was trying to process the fact, that I am just from a funeral and the same day I'll be attending a ball.

"Okay," I told her. Vanessa left the room, I was left in awe as I stared at the dress. I can't wait to put it on. I changed my outfit and wore a cute white sleeveless summer dress. I sat on the couch and switched on the television. The news was showing and I couldn't believe what I heard. "Detective Dylan's body was found yesterday floating by the shore line at dawn, two couples reported to the police immediately when they saw the body. Forensics experts say Detective Dylan was murdered and has been dead for two week," the anchor spoke. My eyes froze at the screen, I couldn't believe it.

Luca

"Grand ma what is it?" I asked as I walked towards her. Rami told me she's been looking for me, and asking everyone where I was. She stood up and started walking. I followed her.

We ended up heading to the garden, she stoped walking once we reached the small pond. She took my hand and placed a round cut diamond vintage ring. "This is the ring your grandfather proposed me with," she said with a feeble voice. "Marry her..."

I looked at her, I notice her sparkling eyes and friendly smile. I didn't know what to tell her. I had planned to propose to Clara when we went back to New York. I hadn't thought of proposing during the trip. I mean it hadn't cross my mind.

"You have changed. I look into your eyes and I see sanity, if she's the reason behind it. Don't ever let her go," she said. I hugged her and kissed her on the forehead.

"I won't," I told her.
