Chapter 12
Happy early birthday to our friend Nagisa ⸜( ˙ ˘ ˙)
-----
The next morning everyone had gotten up, got changed and had breakfast. Now they were just waiting for Gaku to tell them what the important news was. They were practically waiting in suspense until the vampire finally spoke up.
"There's been some news about demons fighting again. Though they're specifically fighting this time for the position of Overlord. It seems the current one is either too weak or dying, it doesn't they don't have an heir either if they are dying, so it's up for grabs again."
"Do you plan on trying to get the title, Yaotome-san?" Riku asked out of curiosity. Though he knew the answer already, both Gaku and Ryuu didn't care to become Overlord. Even if they had the strength to easily beat all the other demons, maybe.
"I don't have any interest in ruling. There's no point to since for starters we're idols so people already want to eliminate us since we're competition in the idol industry. Becoming Overlord would just make us, specifically me, even bigger targets to eliminate."
"Are demons really like this?" Tsumugi couldn't help but ask.
"24/7, here in the Netherworlds it's always a struggle for more power, more money, fame, etc. We're all basically greedy in a way, it's just some are to the extremes and stop at nothing to gain such things." Sogo shrugged. "They'd probably fight you for a single crumb if it meant they could have it and no one else could."
Tsumugi and the Nanase twins couldn't help but sigh at that fact. As an angel and two former angels, they knew more about living in peace and helping others. Well..at least Tsumugi did, it wasn't easy for the twins. If anything the Netherworld seemed more peaceful to them. Since to demons, being a 'monster' was a good thing.
"Gakkun and Ryuu-aniki is strong though, can't they just work together and take out the competition and help the other maintain their position?"
"I mean it's true we probably could, we're just not that interested in ruling. Sure the Overlords don't really care much if they slack off or end up not great rulers. But as long as they're strong and manage to maintain their position it doesn't matter."
"I think you'd make good Overlords!" Riku happily said.
"Heh..thanks Nanase, but let's focus on something else now. Hey you like that random news right? Why not see if there's anything else that's going on."
"Yeah! The news still doesn't really make much sense..but maybe for once they'll be serious with this latest news!" Riku didn't hesitate to grab the remote and turn the TV on.
. . .
Channel 57: Today we learned everyone's fighting for the title of Overlord yet again, same old same old. Whoever wants to partake in said fighting can just head over to the Overlord's Castle and fight on. Losers can just crawl back home.
Channel 39: Good job telling everyone about something they already know about Channel 57. In other news it's someone's birthday soon, yaaaay..
Channel 57: You couldn't seem less interested in that if you tried. Also breaking news, ramen just beat out soba. Who cares about this? No one, no one really. Unless you're obsessed with either of those foods.
. . .
"What?!" Gaku exclaimed, he was one of the people obsessed with one of those foods, specifically soba.
"Gaku if you start ranting about soba, I'm going to punch you and Ryuu can't stop me." Tenn glared at Gaku before looking at Ryuu as to silently tell him 'don't stop me'. Ryuu couldn't do anything but smile nervously as he said, "I'm sure soba will make a come back.."
"I hope whoever's birthday it is soon has a happy birthday! Though now I wish they said whose birthday..maybe we could of announced it at our next live, make their day!" Riku pouted, he really wanted to tell that person happy birthday.
"Don't worry Nanase-san..We can just say happy birthday to everyone whose birthday is coming up. Then we can make everyone's day."
"You think so, Iori?" the redhead beamed at the idea. Iori had to look away as he tried coughing as to keep his composure. How was this one person so cute?! Honestly it felt like he'd die from Riku's cuteness alone. Not that he'd ever admit he thought he was cute.
But then he saw Tenn and Mitsuki looking over at him grinning a little. Damn it, they were making it harder for him to not show he was blushing a bit. He could guess Tenn probably found out on his own that he liked Riku. Mitsuki already knew, since he told his brother. His advice for when he told him was 'just tell Riku how you feel then!' But how does he even begin to?!
"So-chan, why does Iorin look like he's having an internal crisis?" Tamaki leaned against Sogo. Something he didn't mind the werewolf doing at all. "Maybe he is having an internal crisis. The looks from his brother and Tenn-kun probably isn't helping. I guess they know something he doesn't want being said."
"Like what? Iorin doesn't seem like someone to have anything embarrassing to hide."
"You'd be surprised Tamaki-kun. Besides you wouldn't know he's hiding anything embarrassing since he's hiding it. A lot of people manage to make it not obvious. Make sense?"
Tamaki gave thought for a moment before nodding, "So-chan is smart." he grinned. It was more like Tamaki didn't understand rather than Sogo just being smart. But he just smiled and pat the werewolf on the head. "If you actually pay attention to these things, you'd figure it out a lot quicker, then I wouldn't have to explain."
"I do pay attention..but you said people make it not obvious to tell they're hiding things..Hey, are you hiding things too So-chan?"
"Maybe, but you'd never know-"
"'Cause you're hiding it."
Sogo couldn't help but laugh a little with how the werewolf finished his sentence with his own words. "That's right. But I'll probably tell you a few things I'm hiding, one day. At least not with everyone else around. I know they could probably help me out with some of the things I haven't told you all about yet, but I'd rather just tell one person first and go from there."
Honestly, Sogo could relate to Tenn and Riku, having no family. His own had disowned him since he wanted to live life his own way and not how they wanted him to. It was honestly disappointing how they tossed him aside so easily after he stood up to them.
He must of been lost in thought as Yamato nudged him just as Tamaki was going to try to get his attention refocused. "Everything okay, So?"
"Eh? Ah, yes, everything is okay, Yamato-san. Sorry, I must of zoned out."
"Was So-chan thinking about another experiment? You normally zone out when thinking up something new to test out..I still don't like your experiments."
"Fufu, no no, I wasn't coming up with any new ideas. You told me to stop coming up with new experiments after the last one almost blew up the basement."
"You almost blew up the entire house! I could of lost all my pudding, So-chan! Well- and everything else I own..but still!"
He really made Tamaki freak out that time, hearing a small explosion from their basement just to see most of the equipment Sogo used was destroyed from one small experiment the man was trying out. Hell, Sogo was lucky he wasn't seriously hurt, just in a temporary state of shock. It was at that point Tamaki actually put his foot down and lectured Sogo about how he was taking too many risks and to never do experiments again.
What it was he was trying to do, no one knew still. Sogo himself didn't really know, he was just trying to mix together various things and see what would happen. Now he just stuck to making potions that he knew or found in books, scrolls, etc. If they were a reliable source that is.
"Remind me to not let So do any of his potion making here.."
"Hey we live here now, where else am I supposed to make them? Besides, Tamaki-kun watches me like a hawk now. Which kind of makes it hard to concentrate with him sitting there watching while eating pudding.."
"Not gonna let So-chan cause anymore trouble."
He sighed accepting his fate that he'd have to be watched over by the young werewolf. Though it was nice knowing he was just making sure he was safe and didn't cause trouble for anyone. Tamaki really was a kind person.
"Um..! Everyone, remember, you all have performances to do today along with a few other things. So we should probably get going before we're late." Tsumugi finally spoke up. As much as she was happy seeing them all smile, talk and generally get along quite well. They still had their jobs as idols to do.
"Alright, Manager!" Riku smiled. "Trigger and Re:Vale should go meet up with their managers then and get to their jobs. Let's all do a good job today!"
With that said, the 13 of them made their way out of the house, still smiling and talking. Tsumugi still couldn't help but wonder if they were all truly demons or not. They were different but in a good way. Though it made her happy they were the demons she met and became good friends with.
