Corbin Slater suffered from long-term Insomnia. Ever since he had to navigate his way through adolescence, the man would lament his inability to garner the strength to sleep or stay immobile for long...but when he did, he was wrapped in an infinite horizon of stars and planets — a rift of glowing orbs. Quite literally. His dreams had a habit of transpiring in outer space, occupied by what the public would scream out as 'monstrous'.

Corbin was unable to pin a similar view on the galaxy's ward, as he never thought of it as something grotesque. He was tethered to the entity. He could feel it at his every waking moment, and it ultimately granted him the thrum of otherworldly powers.

Corbin never understood any of it fully. And he never sensed he needed to, not even with the grand emergence of the Avengers years past. He couldn't imagine himself as a hero or such, pursuing work as a bodyguard and specifically for Abdallah El-Faouly, who was an old friend of his mother's. It enriched Corbin's life — witnessing archaeological sites, adventure, and the most beautiful woman he'd ever known. Layla El-Faouly was a remarkable individual, in the same vein as Marc Spector, and they both came to harbor that which was sacred to Corbin: his love.

Love, however, might've drawn conflict when the world needed Corbin prepared at its beck and call, all in the contours of a cosmic horror whose song was quite maddening.

first things first: corbin, layla, and marc are in a polyamorous relationship with one another. marc and layla's marriage will be carried over in this fic, however, now they both also have a boyfriend 😍🤭 corbin's known them for many years (especially layla) yet he's only been romantically involved with the pair for a few, in turn. steven is gonna crush so hard on both corbin and layla later on in the story as well, which is just ✨beautiful✨. and if you're not interested / disapprove of any of the above, simply walk away. there's honestly no need for any disputes here 🤍
