Dressed up

Elena and Daniel walked hand-in-hand on the lively streets of Budapest, Hungary. The capitol was considered one of the most romantic cities in Europe. There was no doubt that this was perhaps true. Especially at night when the city lights would glimmer. Elena and Daniel seemed so happy, smiling and laughing over silly little things. As the arrived at a nearby restaurant, there was a father with two twin girls. The twin girls saw the happy couple and smiled.

" I want a boyfriend like that daddy!" One of the girls said, as she pointed at Daniel.

Daniel chuckled softly and said to Elena in English " See Elena? Everyone just loves us"

Elena laughed " That's adorable. Truly."

As they entered the restaurant, a young waiter, perhaps nearly their age, saw them and smiled.

" Hello, Is it just the two of you?" The waiter asked.

Daniel nodded and the waiter took them to a small secluded area. The chairs were pulled out for them and wine was already being served. They were handed menus and then left alone to converse or what not. Elena skimmed over the menu, trying her best to read the menu though Hungarian was not her strongest language.

" Here, you might like the salad at the top, it has a picture. It looks good. " Daniel suggested.

" Ah, I see it. But I don't think that's filling on its own. Maybe I should get a soup or-"

Daniel shook his head " No no, you don't wanna gain anymore weight. You're already fat enough." His facial expression was as harsh as the tone of voice used.

Elena wasn't too surprised at this comment; "This salad looks like it has less calories than my wine does".

Daniel sighed and mentally face palmed " That's the point. Now order that or I'm leaving."

Before Elena could fight back the waiter returned

" Have you two decided on what you want?" The waiter asked.

" Elena wants a uborkasalata, don't you?" Daniel gave her a threatening glance while plastering a smile.

Elena slowly nodded, practically shaking.

Daniel proceeded to order a ground beef stew for himself and the waiter quickly wrote both items down and left.

As they ate quietly, the sun began to go down. Soon, they finished their meals and headed out. Later that night they checked into the hotel. Everything seemed perfectly fine until the second Daniel closed the door behind him.

" You're so lucky I put up with you. I don't know how anyone else ever has." Daniel huffed, throwing down his wallet.

Elena said nothing in return and simply walked toward the bathroom. Daniel gripped her small wrist tightly and spun her towards him.

" Don't walk away from me. Don't you ever." His eyes narrowed and he slapped Elena across the face.

" Daniel, please... Not today." Elena pleaded, taking a step backwards.

Daniel grabbed the collar of her shirt and began to unbutton her shirt with his free hand. He took out a razor blade and began to make thin cuts along her hips. Her then slowly pulled off her skirt and cut along her thighs, just over some old scars.

" You're gaining weight Elena... I thought we discussed this. My ex girlfriend is starting to look much more attractive than you...."

Tear's began to brim Elena's eyes " I'm so sorry but-"

Daniel punched her in the nose " No buts!"

Elena and Daniel both grew silent. Blood was dripping from Elena's face and body. Daniel looked at her with cold eyes and walked out of the hotel room.

Elena knew better than to leave the hotel room. Instead she quickly bathed herself and wrapped herself in bandages. She slipped on a white nightgown and sat on her bed, reading The Notebook and drinking tea she had prepared for herself. Hours passed and finally Daniel came back.

" Elena... sweetheart...." Daniel opened the door and rushed into the room. It was as if another Daniel, the real one, came busting in to save the day.

Elena forced a smile " Daniel..."

Reality refocused back into his beautiful image as she smelled heavy whisky.  She began to tremble, a drunk Daniel was a frightening and unpredictable.

" You're so beautiful when you smile like that..." Daniel whispered into Elena's ear and kissed her neck, wrapping his strong arms around her waist.

" Do you really mean that...?" Elena asked in a nervous voice.

Daniel nodded " Of course I do"

Daniel kissed Elena gently, he hadn't kissed her in such a way since the first few months of their relationship, before he became the Daniel she was familiar with.  She kissed back, remembering why she fell in love with him in the first place.  She remembered when she met him, he was at a coffee shop and he bought her a coffee. He was so nice and sweet then. She missed that Daniel more than anything and was determined to get him back.

" It's only a shame..." Daniel's voice trailed off.

Elena raised an eyebrow " What?"

Daniel leaned in once again, as if to kiss her and then bit her lips as hard as he could. The blood was thin but warm, he licked the blood off of his lips and smirked " If only somebody really loved you after all..."

Elena attempted to run before it was too late but Daniel quickly hoisted her up and carried her out the window. He climbed to the top of the roof and took out a gun.

" Daniel! Stop this! Let me go! Please!" Elena struggled to get out of his grip, her lips were burning in pain, Daniel pointed the gun at her head and shot her before throwing her off of the roof.

A week later, Daniel sat alone at a small cafe, he was reading a newspaper about a girl who was ' mysteriously' killed. He smirked as he read the article. Suddenly, a girl with chestnut brown hair tied into a bun and beautiful sea green eyes walked in. She was on the phone, speaking in what sounded like spanish.  He went up to a cafe barista and asked " Would you mind serving a latte to that girl over there?" He pointed to the girl and handed a wad of cash.
