Flashback

Enchanted Forest.

Day - Forest

There was a camera pan showing a castle, then a large forest. A lone stag roamed on the forest road tending to a patch of grass. A coachman's voice was heard in the distance. Startled, the deer turned its head up and turned to leave hastily. Carriage horses stamped forward pulling a carriage on the road.

Inside the carriage, Prince Charming looked out the window "What do you think of the view, my dear?"

A Princess named Abigail was sitting across from him, holding a fan to fan herself rapidly, sighing "I've seen better. This is taking forever. I told you the Troll Road would've been quicker" The carriage bounced. Abigail closed her eyes, annoyed "And far less bumpy" Prince Charming took a bag of jewelry in his lap, looking at it. Abigail looked at the box, and then at Charming. "Are you even listening to me?"

Charming, distractedly looked away from the bag "Yes, of course I am"

They heard the Coachman "Whoa, whoa!"

The Carriage horses neighed as they drew to a halt.

"Now what?" Abigail asked sighing

Charming got out to investigate, leaving behind the bag on the seat. "Worry not—it's but a fallen tree. Fellas? Shall we?"

Charming examined the end of a tree.

A clocked figure landed on top of the carriage, startling Abigail inside.

The coachman looked at Charming as he continued to assess the marks on the tree "M'lord? What is it?"

"These markings. This tree didn't fall" Charming realized "It's been cut. It's an ambush"

The cloaked figure reached into the open carriage door, grabbing the bag on the seat. Abigail screamed at the intrusion. Charming ran closer

"Sir!" The coachman exclaimed

"Guards!" Abigail screamed "Stop, thief! Help me!"

The thief mounted a horse, making a getaway. Charming mounted a horse as well, chasing after the thief. Abigail looked out the carriage door at the commotion. Charming managed to catch up to the thief, and when his horse sped up to align with the other horse, he forced the thief from the horse to the ground, falling with the thief.

Charming stood, standing over the thief. "Show your face, you coward!" He flipped the thief over, preparing a fist to punch, stopping, the anger melting from his face to show a dazed and surprised expression. Snow White was the thief "You're...a girl"

"Woman" Snow corrected, grabbing a rock, hitting Charming in the face with it making him fall to the ground in pain, standing, getting to her horse, riding off.

Charming got up, his chin was bloodstained "You can't hide from me!" He screamed at Snow "Wherever you are, I will find you!"

Snow turned to flash Charming a satisfied smirk as she got away.

Charming was irritated but slightly impressed

Elsewhere

Rapunzel was hiding behind a tree, her hair moving wildly before setting down, lifeless. She heard Snow's horse, crouching down.

Snow saw the movement, frowning and slowing down, looking behind her making sure no one was following her as she dismounted the horse, walking silently behind the tree, seeing Rapunzel.

Rapunzel froze, sensing Snow's presence and tried to run away, surprising Snow. Snow grabbed Rapunzel's arms, pinning her against a tree, worried that she was following her for Evil Queen's orders "Who are you?"

Rapunzel opened her eyes, frightened "The Queen is looking for you" she murmured, trying to pull away free but Snow only tightened her grip on the girl.

Snow frowned, pursing her lips. "I asked a question. You seem to know who I am. Now tell me" She told her, starting to notice the fear in Rapunzel's eyes.

"Please. Just let me go" Rapunzel pleaded, glancing down at her hair "I won't turn you in but let me go. You're in more danger than what you realize by just being near me"

Snow's eyes softened, staring at her in confusion.

Rapunzel's hair swiftly pushed Snow away along her hands, allowing her to run free.

Snow stumbled back, surprised by the force, starting to follow her "Wait! What do you mean?"

Rapunzel turned back, sadly "I'm a danger to everyone, Snow White" she turned around to walk away, leaving a shocked Snow but stopped, turning her head slightly toward her "I'm Rapunzel by the way. I know your name. Now you know mine" she gave a small shrug, walking away

Snow watched her go, thoughtfully

Night - Granny's diner

Dr. Whale and Mary Margaret were on a date at Granny's Diner. Mary Margaret looked at him, sipping her drink.

"Um, where were we?" Whale asked "Something about you wanting fifteen kids?"

Mary Margaret laughed, shocked "No! Good lord, no. I meant in my class, where I teach. You'll meet them tomorrow" Dr. Whale nodded in understanding, but as she continued to speak, his gaze drifted to the person behind her. Ruby was clearing tables in the background, scantily clad in a white shirt showing her midriff with a red mini-skirt and high heels. "They're coming to the hospital as part of the Volunteer Outreach Program"

Ruby walked toward another table almost directly behind Mary Margaret.

Whale quickly shifted his eyes back in time to respond to Mary Margaret, trying to stay focused but he kept glancing at Ruby. "Oh, yeah. That is a great program."

"I mean, obviously I don't want fifteen kids of my own" Mary Margaret told him "I-I mean, not that I don't want kids. I do" Whale lost interest in the conversation, still looking at Ruby "I want kids, marriage, true love—I want it all. But that of course is... " Mary Margaret noticed Whale was not paying attention to her. Slowly, she turned her head to see him ogling Ruby, who had finished cleaning the table, carrying a tray as she passed them "Wildly inappropriate for me to discuss on a first date"

Dr. Whale looked at Mary Margaret "Hmm?"

Mary Margaret sighed sadly "Ruby?"

Ruby stopped, turning back while holding the tray with one hand. "Yes, Mary Margaret?"

Mary Margaret sighed sadly "Check, please"

Outside - Street

Mary Margaret was walking down the street after her disaster date. She stopped and stared ahead, noticing a familiar face, approaching Emma's car, finding out Emma was inside, trying to read the newspaper with a flashlight.

"Hey" Mary Margaret told her "You okay?"

Emma turned off her flashlight "Oh, in the world of tight spots I've been in, crashing in my car doesn't even rank in the top ten"

Mary Margaret looked surprised "You're sleeping here?"

"Til I find a place" Emma told her

Mary Margaret smiled "You decided to stay. For Henry and Dani"

"Yeah" Emma shrugged "I guess. This town doesn't seem to have any vacancies. None, actually. Is that normal?"

Mary Margaret shrugged "Must be the curse"

"Why are you out so late?" Emma asked

"Well, I'm a teacher, not a nun" Mary Margaret answered "I had a date"

"From the looks of things, it went well" Emma told her sarcastically

Mary Margaret sighed "As well as they ever do"

"Tell me he at least paid" Emma told her

Mary Margaret shook her head "Mm-mm"

Emma chuckled "Ew"

"Well, guess if true love was easy, we'd all have it" Mary Margaret told her "You know, if things get cramped, I do have a spare room"

"Thanks" Emma told her "I'm not really the roommate type. It's just not my thing. I do better on my own"

"Well, goodnight" Mary Margaret told her "Good luck with Henry and Dani"

"Yeah" Emma agreed

Mary Margaret walked away as Emma watched her go

Morning - Storybrooke Hospital - Hallway

The kids from Mary Margaret's class were around, hanging decorations around the walls and near some patients' beds.

Kate was volunteering, helping Mary Margaret. She placed a 'get well' card on a patient's bedside "Nice to see you're doing well, Mr. Oscar"

Oscar smiled, chuckling "Thank you, young lady"

Kate smiled, walking away "Bye!"

Rachel was tending a patient close by the ICU, checking on her vitals, writing more about her progress.

"Aren't they just cute?" A patient cooed, looking up at Rachel

Rachel chuckled, "They just want extra credits" she whispered teasingly. "When I was their age I did that too" she joked.

The patient laughed, shaking her head "I can't imagine you as a troublemaker, Dr. Kentworth"

Rachel smirked, "Not everyone does" she said lowering her chart giving a look around before spotting Henry and Daniella inside John Doe's ICU room. She sighed "If you excuse me, Mrs Jacobs. I have two little trespassers who need my attention"

"Go ahead darling" Mrs. Jacobs chuckled, waving a hand

John's Hospital Room

Rachel walked toward the ICU unit, frowning. Henry and Daniella were sitting next to John's bed. Daniella was about to touch John's face.

"He bites" Rachel spoke startling them. Daniella dropped her hand. "He may be sleeping but he's defensive over his sleep, so I wouldn't do that"

Daniella looked at Rachel with a sheepish, innocent look, "Is Mr. Doe going to be okay, Doctor?"

"I'm trying to make him be okay" Rachel replied, not wanting to give either of the kids details. She picked up John's chart, starting to write "And his name's not John Doe. We gave him that name because we still don't know who he is"

Daniella nodded slightly, glancing at Rachel with a tilt of her head

Henry hummed, narrowing his eyes slightly. He seemed to be trying to figure out who Rachel was "Do you know what's wrong with him?" Henry asked, glancing between John and Rachel.

Rachel paused in her writing on the chart, slowly looking at Henry hesitating "Neither of you should be here, kids" she scolded, not answering the question.

Daniella frowned, "We just wanted to help" she said innocently

Henry picked up a cartel from the floor and placed it on John's bedside.

Rachel half smiled, raising an eyebrow.

"Oh, Henry. Dani." Mary Margaret appeared on the door, looking embarrassed and worried as she glanced at Rachel, "You shouldn't be here. I'm so sorry, Dr. Kentworth. I don't know how they got in here"

"It's alright" Rachel reassured, looking at Henry and Daniella "They didn't do any harm"

"We wanted to know if he had family" Henry insisted, not moving "If anyone knows him. Do any of you know who he is?"

Mary Margaret looked sad, glancing at John "As far as we know, Henry, no one does"

"He doesn't have a family" Rachel added, sighing and looking away. "He's alone"

Daniella looked at Rachel, seeing her expression. She looked back at John and then Mary Margaret, realizing something, nudging Henry with her arm.

They looked at each other, seeming to be communicating silently as twins mostly do

"Come on, kids" Mary Margaret called out to them kindly, making them stand up and walk around the bed toward her. "I'm sorry again for this, Dr. Kentworth"

Rachel forced a smile, shaking her head. "No harm done. Keep your kids in line next time, Ms Blanchard" Mary Margaret smiled sheepishly, leading Henry and Daniella away from there as Rachel sighed heavily, looking back at John "No matter what, I'm gonna find out who you are to help you"

Hallway

Kate watched Mary Margaret lead Henry and Daniella away from John's room, chuckling and turning around only to be met with Zac

"Hey there love" Zac smiled

Kate sighed, rolling her eyes "What are you doing here?"

Zac picked up a cartel, slightly smirking "Volunteering. Ms. Blanchard needs all the help she can with these kids. Oh, and Val told me you'll be here"

Kate cursed under her breath, "I can't believe her"

"Is good you're here too because we can help her together, don't you think?" Zac told her, ignoring her obvious dislike to him. Kate ignored him "Of course I knew you'd be here, Ms Blanchard being like your guardian and all that" Kate continued ignoring him, walking away "What? What did I say?" He asked following after her. "Kate"

Kate turned to face him with a groan, "Didn't you get my silent hint?" Zac shrugged "Leave. me. alone."

Zac didn't move, still smiling "Why? You're such a pleasant person to be around, Kate"

Kate took a deep breath, starting to reply when Henry walked closer, "Hey, Katie. We're done. We can go now-" He noticed the tension between Kate and Zac, starting to smile in amusement. Daniella came up behind Henry with a silent giggle.

Kate looked away from Zac, forcing a smile for the twins "Of course. I'll take you two home-" Daniella pouted. Kate narrowed her eyes, "Fine. To Emma. Then we can tell your mom you stayed in my place all day. You two okay with that?" Henry and Daniella looked at each other with a grin, nodding at Kate.

Henry glanced at Zac, who was smiling in amusement. He glanced back at Kate, mouthing 'Your prince'.

Kate's eyes widened in disbelief. "Okay... Go take your stuff. I'll say goodbye and then I'll meet you over there in a minute"

Daniella and Henry nodded smiling, walking away

Zac chuckled. Kate turned to face him with a glare. "Katie? That's lovely. I take it they're the only ones who call you that"

"Yes. And if you do..." Kate trailed off, in warning.

Zac raised his hands in surrender, waving at her.

Kate sighed, walking away

Zac smirked, "Goodbye, Katie"

Kate closed her eyes for a moment in annoyance, opening them and then rolling her eyes, walking away

Henry and Daniella walked closer, frowning at Kate

"What happened?" Daniella asked

Kate crossed her arms, "Forget it. There's no way he's my prince"

Daniella and Henry exchanged a look "Whatever you think. Know this, he's Prince Esteban. Rapunzel's true love" Henry told her "So, he's your prince"

"Stop that before I change my mind to take you to Emma" Kate told them. Daniella and Henry closed their mouths, innocently. Kate sighed "Come on"

Park

Emma, Daniella and Henry were at the playground castle near the shore.

Daniella chuckled "We found Kate's true love"

Emma raised a brow "Really?" She frowned. "Wait. You never told me who you think Kate is"

"Rapunzel" Henry replied simply. Emma chuckled. "And her prince has been in front of her all this time"

"She seems to hate him, though" Daniella added, hesitantly

Emma laughed, "Yeah, I can see how that's gonna turn out"

Daniella and Henry exchanged a look.

"He wasn't the only one we found" Henry told her

Daniella pulled out Henry's book, opening it into a illustration of Prince Charming with scar on his face, one that John Doe in Our World had in the same place, showing it to Emma. "Your father. Prince Charming"

Emma sighed "Dani..."

"He's in the hospital, in a coma" Henry told her "See the scar?" He pointed it out in the book. "He has one, too"

"So?" Emma asked "Lots of people have scars"

"In the same place?" Daniella asked "Don't you see what this means? The curse is keeping them apart with the coma. Now they're stuck without each other. We have to tell Miss Blanchard we found her Prince Charming"

"Okay, kids" Emma told them "Telling someone their soul mate is in a coma is probably not helpful. Not having a happy ending is painful enough, but giving someone unrealistic hope is far worse"

"But what if we're right?" Henry asked "We know who they are. Now they have to know"

"And how do you intend to make that happen?" Emma asked

"By reminding him" Daniella answered "We have to get her to read their story to John Doe. Then, maybe, he'll remember who he is"

Emma took a deep breath, contemplating, nodding "Okay"

"Okay?" The twins repeated

"Yeah, we'll do it" Emma answered "But we'll do it my way. Let me ask her"

Mary Margaret's Loft - Living Room

Mary Margaret was making cocoa for herself and Emma. They stood at the counter, talking.

"You want me to read to a coma patient?" Mary Margaret asked

"Henry and Daniella think it will help him remember who he was" Emma answered.

"And, who do they think he was?" Mary Margaret asked

"Prince Charming" Emma answered

Mary Margaret realized "And if I'm Snow White, they think me... and him..."

"They have a very active imagination, which is the point" Emma told her "I can't talk them out of their beliefs, so we need to show them. Play along, do what they say and then maybe, just maybe--"

"They'll see that fairy tales are just that" Mary Margaret finished "That there's no such thing as love at first sight or first kiss. They'll see reality"

Emma nodded "Something like that"

"Well, sadly, this plan is rather genius" Mary Margaret told her. "We get them to the truth without hurting them."

"I told them that we will all meet tomorrow for breakfast at Granny's" Emma told her "And you will give a full report"

"Well, I suppose I'll get ready for my date" Mary Margaret. "I guess I'll have to do all the talking"

Night - Storybrooke Hospital - John's Room

Mary Margaret sat with John Doe in his room, Henry's storybook in her lap

"Look, I know this is odd" Mary Margaret began "but I'm doing it for a friend. So please, just bear with me" She began reading. "As the Prince chased the thief on horseback, through the treacherous forest, his betrothed crossed her arms and pouted, wondering how many dreadful, boring minutes it would take until they could resume their journey again. The thief vaulted over a fallen..." The scene transitioned to show the passage of time. "...They didn't need words to express what they felt in their hearts, for it was here, in the shadow of the troll bridge, that their love was born, where they knew, no matter how they were separated, they would always--"

While unconscious, John Doe reached out, grabbing her hand but didn't wake up.

Mary Margaret looked at him, shocked

Later

Mary Margaret led Dr. Whale inside John Doe's room.

"No, I'm sure he's waking up" Mary Margaret told him "He... He grabbed my hand"

Rachel walked closer in a rush, chewing and swallowing what she had on her mouth, clearly just having had dinner "What is it?"

"Ms Blanchard was just informing me about how our patient grabbed her hand" Whale explained calmly as Rachel headed to the monitor, staring to check herself while glancing at John

Rachel turned to face them, "Everything's steady" She told them, glancing at Whale with her head tilted aside before looking at Mary Margaret, "Like it has always been. What were you doing here, Ms Blanchard? Volunteering hours are done for today if I recall correctly"

May Margaret shifted slightly, uncomfortable "Oh, I was just reading h-him a story"

Rachel leaned forward, spotting a book on the night stand. "Oh" she murmured not knowing what to say "Well perhaps you, um, doze off" she suggested, shrugging her shoulder a little

Whale nodded in agreement "Perhaps you imagined it"

"No" Mary Margaret shook her head "I didn't imagine anything"

Whale sighed, "Ms Blanchard, I can only tell you what we see, which is nothing. Sometimes there are minor malfunctions in readings. Perhaps you heard the machine register something and misunderstood?"

Rachel looked at her sympathetically, "Why don't you go home and rest a little bit? You must be exhausted for all you've done today. I'll call you if anything happens, alright?" She smiled reassuringly.

Mary Margaret nodded defeated, picking up Henry's book before leaving the room

Rachel and Whale's faces dropped once she was gone, exchanging a look.

Whale picked up his phone, looking at Rachel "She must know this. She's his emergency contact"

Rachel nodded, sighing as she sat down next to John "I know" she said hesitantly, looking at John as Whale waited for the phone to pick up.

"Is Doctor Whale. You told me or Dr. Kentworth to call you if there was ever a change in a John Doe" Whale spoke over the phone making Rachel look up "Something happened"

Whale put up the phone in speaker so Rachel could hear, hearing Regina's voice on the other line "What?"

"One of our volunteers said he grabbed her" Rachel explained. "And there was a slight fluctuation in brain activity"

There was a pause on the other line where Regina tightened her grip on her phone, asking through gritted teeth, already knowing the answer to the question she was about to ask "And who was this volunteer?"

Rachel frowned, exchanging a look with Whale "Mary Margaret Blanchard" she replied. There was a pause before a sigh was heard and the sound of the call being cut. They both stared at the phone, confused "D-Did she sound angry?" She asked hesitantly

Whale frowned, "A little, yes"

"I thought she'll be pleased to hear he was having brain activity" Rachel frowned, shaking her head "It makes no sense her reaction"

"Don't let her hear you say that" Whale warned, "We've done everything for not being on her bad side. If I were you, I would just do and act like she wants so she won't make your life impossible"

Rachel sighed, frowning "I know. Thank you Whale"

"We're doctors. We gotta stick together" Whale flashed her a small grin before leaving the room

Rachel quirked her lips slightly up, glancing down at John "You hang in there, alright? You're doing well, you just need to wake up. I know you can" she placed her hand on top of his, squeezing his hand. "You take your time, alright? No one's pressuring you" she said before standing up and leaving, not noticing John's fingers twitching slightly as soon as she put her hand away

Day - Woods

Snow had just stolen Prince Charming's jewels and met Rapunzel, gathering various things, putting them into a bag. She placed a necklace with a bottle around her neck, on top of a coral pendant, gently caressing it before shoving it under her clothes. She slung the bag over her shoulder heading outside, walking a short distance before getting caught in a net.

Charming walked out of hiding, laughing. "I told you I'd find you. No matter what you do, I will always find you"

"Is this the only way you can catch a woman?" Snow asked "By entrapping her?"

Charming shrugged "It's the only way to catch a thieving scum"

"Aren't you a real 'Prince Charming'." Snow asked sarcastically

"I have a name, you know" Charming told her

"Don't care" Snow replied "Charming suits you. Now cut me down, Charming"

"I'll release you, when you return the leather pouch you stole with my jewels" Charming told her

"Not the jewelry type" Snow told him

"Indeed. I noticed" Charming told her

"What is that supposed to mean?" Snow asked "Are you insulting me?"

"No, quite right" Charming told her "My apologies. How dare I cast aspersions at the person who robbed me? Where are my jewels?"

"I sold them." Snow answered

"What?" Charming asked

"What do you care?" Snow asked "Don't you have a palace full of treasures somewhere?"

"These were special" Charming explained "Among them was a ring that belonged to my mother. A ring I was about to give--"

"The nag with the bad attitude?" Snow asked, amused "That's what this is about?"

"She's my fiancée" Charming told her

Snow chuckled, "Good luck with that. You must be getting something impressive to have agreed to that union"

"Excuse me?" Charming asked

"I know how this works" Snow told him "True love? It doesn't exist. It's all arranged marriages and business transactions. There's no such thing as love at first sight or first kiss. Let me guess, her kingdom wants to take over yours and this is, what, a last ditch effort to avoid war?"

"This is not a takeover" Charming told her "It's a merger, and quite frankly, it's none of your business. Now, this is what's going to happen"

Snow nodded, sarcastically "Mmhmm?"

"I'm going to cut you down and you will take me to whoever has my jewels and then, you're going to get my ring back" Charming told her

"Mm-mm. Why would I do that?" Snow asked

"Because you don't want me to tell anyone who you really are" Charming told her, taking out a piece of paper. It was a wanted poster for her "Snow White. Help me get my ring back, or I turn you over to the Queen's forces. And I have a feeling the Queen's not as 'charming' as I am"

Snow fell silent for a moment, considering her options. "Well, I wouldn't want to stand in the way of your getting true love"

Charming cut Snow down from the net

Morning - Granny's diner

Henry, Daniella and Kate were sitting at a table, eating breakfast. Emma walked closer, wearing a new shirt.

"Thanks for the shirt" Emma told them, sitting down next to Kate. The twins were sitting in front of them "Hey, is this your mother's?"

Daniella smiled, "She'll never notice"

Kate nodded in agreement, chewing a piece of bacon

"Where does she think you two are, anyway?" Emma asked

"Playing Whac-A-Mole with Kate babysitting us" Henry answered, pointing at Kate.

Kate smiled in amusement

Emma raised a brow, skeptically "And she bought that?"

"She wants to believe it, so she does" Henry shrugged

"Oh, imagine that" Emma told them

Mary Margaret walked in.

"She's here" Daniella told them

"Hey, don't get your hopes up" Emma told them "We're just getting started, okay?"

Kate looked confused

Mary Margaret walked closer, sitting in their table "He woke up"

Kate looked up in realization, giving the twins a look. The twins smiled in excitement

"What?" Emma asked

"We knew it" Daniella told them

"I mean, he didn't 'wake up' wake up" Mary Margaret explained "But he grabbed my hand"

"He's remembering" Henry told them

"What did the doctors say?" Emma asked

"That I imagined it" Mary Margaret answered "but I'm not crazy. I know it happened"

"We have to go back" Henry told her "You have to read to him again"

Mary Margaret stood up, "Let's go"

Wait, wait" Emma widened her eyes "what?"

"If I got through to him, if we made a connection..." Mary Margaret trailed off

Emma stood to talk to Mary Margaret alone.

Kate shrugged, returning back to her breakfast

"You don't believe..." Emma trailed off

"That he's Prince Charming?" Mary Margaret asked "Of course not. Somehow, some way, I touched him"

Storybrooke Hospital - Hallway

Emma, Henry, Daniella and Mary Margaret had just arrived to the hospital, making their way to John's room, seeing that Regina, Graham, Rachel and Whale were there

"You're right" Daniella told them "He's waking up"

Graham walked closer to Daniella and Henry, giving them a concerned look "Henry, Daniella, you should stay back"

Mary Margaret looked between them, worried. "What's going on? Is it John Doe? Is he okay?"

"He's missing" Rachel spoke, attracting their attention and that's when Regina, Emma, Mary Margaret and the twins noticed each other's presence

Regina sighed, seeing her children with Emma. "Excuse me, Dr Kentworth. Dr Whale" Regina told them before walking closer to them.

As soon as Regina got her back to them, Rachel's shoulders dropped in a relaxing position. Whale looked at her knowingly.

Regina walked closer, "What the hell are you doing here?" Regina looked at Henry and Daniella "And you two. I thought you were at the arcade with Kate. Now you're lying to me?"

Rachel and Whale walked closer, curious but knowing when to stay quiet.

"What happened to John Doe?" Mary Margaret asked, looking back at Rachel specifically "Did someone take him?"

"We don't know yet" Graham replied when Rachel stayed silent, knowing the reason of her silence "His IVs were ripped out but there's no sign for sure there's a struggle"

Henry immediately turned to Regina, accusingly "What did you do?"

Regina looked offended "You think I had something to do with this?"

"It is curious that the mayor is here" Emma quipped, looking at Regina with slightly narrowed eyes

Regina held her chin up, staring at her "I'm here because I'm his emergency contact"

Daniella looked skeptical "You know him?"

"I found him" Regina answered "On the side of the road years ago with no ID. I brought him here"

"Mayor Mills saved his life" Rachel spoke for the first time, looking at Regina who smiled pleased by her defense.

Mary Margaret looked worried "Will he be okay?"

"'Okay'?" Whale repeated, incredulously. He exchanged a look with Rachel "The man's been on feeding tubes for years on constant supervision. He needs to get back here right away or, quite honestly, 'okay' might be a pipe dream."

"Well then, let's quit yapping and start looking" Emma told them.

"That's what we're doing" Regina stared at Emma. The others just shifted slightly uncomfortable at their fight of power "Just stay out of this, dear. And since I clearly can't keep you away from my children, I guess I'm just going to have to keep my children away from you" She said grabbing Henry's and Daniella's arm, starting to lead them away from them "Enjoy my shirt, because that's all you're getting. Sheriff, find John Doe. You heard Dr. Whale. Time is precious."

Graham grimaced slightly, looking back to Rachel and Whale "Doctors, how long between your rounds since you last saw him?"

Whale and Rachel exchanged a look, mentally counting "Twelve hours or so"

"I was the last one to see him and he was still asleep" Rachel told them.

Graham looked at Rachel, knowing she was blaming herself. The way she clenched her fists proved it. "Then that's what we need to account for"

Security Room

Emma, Mary Margaret, Graham, Whale and Rachel were talking to the security guard, Leroy and the hospital janitor, named Walter

"You two were the only employees on the floor last night. And you saw nothing?" Graham asked

"Not a thing" Walter answered

"Did anyone walk by?" Emma asked

"I didn't see nothin'." Leroy told them

"Miss Blanchard, was there anything unusual you saw during your trip with your class?" Graham asked

"I don't think so" Mary Margaret answered

Emma was looking at the tapes, "We're looking at the wrong tape" She told them. "This is the ward where Henry and Daniella's class put up decorations. If this was really the tape from last night, we'd see the banners the kids hung"

Leroy clicked his tongue "You fell asleep again"

"You selling me out?" Walter asked incredulously

Leroy nodded "I ain't getting fired for this"

"At least I don't drink on the job" Walter replied

"Gentlemen, enough" Graham told them. "Where's the real tape?"

They switched the tape, seeing John get up and walk out the door.

"He walked out alone" Rachel felt herself relax slightly, closing her eyes in relief "He's okay"

Mary Margaret squeezed Rachel's arm, smiling slightly.

"Four hours ago" Emma murmured "Where does this door lead?"

"The woods" Both Rachel and Graham replied.

They all exchanged a look

Day - Woods

Charming and Snow were traveling through.

Charming noticed a necklace around her neck with a glass bottle and some kind of substance inside and the chain of another necklace. "I thought you weren't the jewelry type. What's that around your neck?"

"Don't worry about it" Snow told him. Charming took the necklaces from her neck. "Careful! It's a weapon. Give me that one. It's not yours"

"Dust?" Charming asked "What kind of weapon is dust?" He raised the coral necklace up, curiously "See? Now I have leverage"

"Fairy dust" Snow answered "And that necklace gave it to me someone I care about, a long time ago"

"I thought fairy dust was a good thing?" Charming admitted "And this one I'll give it back when you return my jewels"

"It is when it comes from a good fairy" Snow told him, glaring at him as he shoved the coral necklace on his pocket "This stuff? Is deadly. It transforms the most fearsome of adversaries into a form that's easily squashed"

"Then why didn't you use it on me?" Charming asked

"Cause you're not worth it" Snow answered "It's very hard to come by. I'm saving it for a special someone"

Charming nodded in understanding "Ah, the Queen. You got a lot of anger there, don't you, Snow?"

"The charges on her posters are lies" Snow explained "It didn't stop her from sending her huntsman to rip out my heart and a whole army to kill my cousin, who was more like a sister to me and her entire kingdom. She's the one who gave me that coral necklace the last time I saw her, actually"

"What happened?" Charming asked, eyes softening slightly

"Well, not everyone is a soulless royal" Snow answered "He took pity on me and let me go, after I asked him to at least try to keep my cousin safe from her but then an army ambushed my uncle's kingdom that same night and burned it down, apparently no one survived. I've been hiding in the forest ever since that day. Trying to amass enough fortune to leave this place. Escape to another realm. Somewhere isolated. Where I can never be hurt"

"Sounds lonely" Charming remarked

"No lonelier than an arranged marriage" Snow countered

"At least I don't prey on the innocent" Charming replied

"Up until now, I've only ever stolen from the Queen" Snow told him "I thought your carriage was one of hers. No one else ever uses that road"

"I took the scenic route" Charming explained

"Well, lucky for me" Snow told him "All I'm doing, Charming, is what it takes to survive. She wants me dead"

"So, what did you do to incur that much wrath?" Charming asked

"She blames me for ruining her life" Snow answered

"Did you?" Charming asked

Snow took a moment to think her answer "Yes" They continued on until they came to a river. "I'm thirsty. May I?"

"Sure" Charming answered "Make it quick"

They both took a drink from the river. While Prince Charming had his back turned, Snow hit him and then pushed him into the river, pulling out the coral necklace from his pocket, digging through the bag to find the pouch, running back into the forest until she got to the road. There, she encountered the Evil Queen's guards. They surrounded her.

"Huh. Look who we found" a guard told them "There's nowhere to hide. The Queen wants your heart. And we're not going to disappoint her"

Snow backed away, worriedly

Night - Woods

Emma, Graham and Mary Margaret were in the woods searching for John Doe.

"What is it?" Emma asked

"The trail runs out here" Graham answered

"You sure?" Emma asked "Because I thought tracking was one of your skills"

"Just give me a second" Graham told her. "This is my world. I got it"

"Right" Emma told him "Sorry"

"What does he mean, 'His world'?" Mary Margaret asked "Isn't finding people your thing, too?"

"Sure" Emma answered "Just, people I find usually run places like Vegas. Not a lot hit the woods"

"That's an interesting job" Mary Margaret told her "finding people. How'd you fall into it?"

"Looking for people is just what I've done" Emma answered "As long as I can remember"

"What made you start?" Mary Margaret asked "Your parents? Henry and Dani told me that your... That you were from a similar situation to their own. Did you ever find them?"

"Depends who you ask" Emma answered

They heard a crack behind them, turning around as Henry, Daniella and Kate ran down a hill.

Mary Margaret looked surprised and shocked, "Henry. Dani. Kate"

"Did you find him yet?" Henry asked

"No, not yet" Emma answered "You two shouldn't be here. Kate? Neither do you"

Kate looked surprised

"We can help" Daniella told them

"They think they know where John Doe is going" Kate explained, crossing her arms. Emma gave her a look. "Don't look at me like that. I had no choice but follow them so they wouldn't get hurt. You have no idea how stubborn they can be"

Henry smiled in amusement. Daniella chuckled.

Mary Margaret's lips twitched slightly, turning to face the twins. "You say you know where he's going. Where's that?

Henry looked at Mary Margaret "He's looking for you"

Flashback

Enchanted Forest.

Day - Forest

A guard slammed Snow against a tree. Another guard took out a dagger, approaching her. "Hold her still"

The guard raised the dagger above Snow's chest, but was suddenly hit with a knife from behind, collapsing to the ground. Charming emerged from behind a tree, starting to fight with the other guard.

During that fight, Snow ran towards the fallen guard's horse, which had a weapon, but she was grabbed by another guard on horseback, picking her up from the ground, trying to take her away

Charming defeated the guard he was fighting, looking up to see the guard on horseback trying to leave with Snow. He took a bow and an arrow from the fallen guards, running off after the other guard with Snow, shooting the guard off the horse, running up to check on Snow "Are you alright?"

Snow looked at him in surprise "You saved me"

"Seemed like the honorable thing to do" Charming told her "Are you ready?"

"For what?" Snow asked

"My jewels" Charming reminded

Snow nodded in understanding "Right, you've got a wedding to get to. The trolls I sold them to are just beyond the next ridge. We need to be careful"

"What?" Charming asked "Of trolls?"

"You've clearly never met one" Snow told him

"Aren't they just little people?" Charming asked

Snow chuckled "You're thinking of dwarves. Show a little respect. They'll cut your hand off sooner than they'll shake it"

"Well, then let's get this over with" Charming told her

"Yes, we've both got places to be" Snow told him "So, let's go"

"You have your lonely little corner of solitude to find?" Charming asked

Snow nodded, "Yeah. Or more like finding another lonely girl so she won't be alone anymore" Charming chuckled, confused "Long story. You have a ring less fiancée to appease to hear it"

Even if they clearly had met under these circumstances, they were slowly starting to fall in love even if they didn't know it yet

Night - Woods

Emma, Graham, Henry, Daniella, Kate and Mary Margaret were still searching for John Doe.

Daniella looked at Mary Margaret "You're the one who woke him up. You're the last one he saw. He wants to find you!"

"Dani, it's not about me" Mary Margaret told her "I just... I think he's lost and confused. He's been in a coma a long time."

Kate seemed to get distracted, looking away in a daze.

"But he loves you" Henry told her "You need to stop chasing him, and let him find you"

"Kids. You need to go home" Emma told them. Kate looked at her, blinking away from her thoughts with Emma's voice, confused and slightly frightened, rubbing her forehead "Where's your mom? She's going to kill me and then you and you Kate...and then me again" She glanced at Kate, frowning in slight concern at her state

"She dropped us at the house" Daniella told her "Then, went right out"

"We told her we'd be at the library with Kate if she didn't find us at home" Henry added, glancing at Kate, frowning slightly at her

"Still, we need to get you back immediately" Emma told them

"No!" Henry and Daniella protested, grabbing Kate's arms

They heard Graham "Guys!"

Thy turned to face him. Mary Margaret and Emma walked closer. Graham showed them John Doe's bloody hospital bracelet.

"Is that..." Mary Margaret trailed off

Emma nodded "Blood"

Henry looked up at Kate in concern, "Are you okay? You don't seem to be okay"

"I'm okay" Kate replied distractedly, seeming to be hearing something

Daniella looked at Henry in worry "She's definitely not okay"

Henry nodded in agreement, looking worried as well

Enchanted Forest

Day - Troll Bridge

Charming and Snow came to the Troll bridge on horseback. They got off.

Snow sent the horse away. "Trolls don't like horses. We walk from here. Follow me and keep quiet"

"Where are they?" Charming asked

"Oh, they're here" Snow answered, leaving a pile of gold coins on the edge of the bridge. Several trolls then climbed up the side of the bridge. "It's fine. I know them"

"Why're you here?" A Troll asked "I thought we were done"

"I want to make another trade" Snow told them

The Troll pointed at Charming "I'm not talking in front of him. Who is this guy?"

"No, he's with me" Snow told them

"Oh, that's good" The troll told her sarcastically. "With you. That makes it all fine"

"He's no one" Snow told them. "Look, I want to buy back the jewels I sold you"

"Who is he?" The Troll asked

"I said don't worry about it" Snow told them "Look, I'll give you back all your money. Just give me the ring. You can keep everything else"

Another troll took out the pouch, going to give it to Charming.

"Thank you" Charming told them "We appreciate the help"

"He's too eager" the troll told them "This is a setup"

"It's not!" Snow exclaimed

"He's a royal!" The troll told them, grabbing Snow White.

Charming drew his sword. "Let her go!"

Snow tried to stop the fighting "No! You can trust me. Look, you can trust me. If I wanted to set you up, I would have done it the first time"

"The time for dealing is done" the troll told them "Seize him!" The trolls grabbed Charming, checking his bag, patting him down. They took the necklace of fairy dust, throwing it aside. They found the wanted poster for Snow "Snow White. Quite a reward. Take her"

Charming picked his sword off the ground, attacking the trolls, elbowing one in the face, slashing and kicking into them

"Go!" Charming told her "I'm right behind you"

Snow ran away, grabbing the fairy dust on the way. Charming fought off the trolls, managing to kick one off the bridge, trying to run. A troll tripped Charming and the others dragged him back.

Snow didn't notice, continuing to flee towards a safe distance. "Follow me! They don't know the forest like I do" She turned to look around realizing that the trolls still had Charming and that they were about to kill him

"Royal blood is the sweetest of all" the troll told them

Snow used the fairy dust to transform the trolls into bugs

Charming looked at her in shock "You... You saved me"

Snow used his own words "It's the honorable thing to do"

"What about your special someone?" Charming asked

Snow touched her coral necklace, "I'll think of something else"

Charming managed a small smile "Thank you"

Snow chuckled, as they picked up Charming's belongings "Anyway, how could I let Prince Charming die?"

"I told you" Charming told her "I have a name. It's James"

"It's nice to meet you, James" Snow told him "We should go. There may be more of them coming"

They walked away with Charming's jewels and Snow's gold coins

Night - Woods

Mary Margaret, Kate, Emma, Henry, Daniella and Graham were still combing the woods, coming to the Toll Bridge.

"Where is he?" Mary Margaret asked "Can you see him?"'

"The trail dies at the water line" Graham told them

Kate pointed her flashlight to the water, finding John Doe lying in the water. "Found him!"

Mary Margaret ran closer "Oh my god! Oh my god! Oh my god!"

Daniella and Henry were in shock. Kate pulled them closer, turning them away from the scene

Graham made a call on his phone "I need an ambulance! At the old Toll Bridge, as soon as possible"

Emma, Graham and Mary Margaret dragged John Doe to the shore.

"No, no, no, no, no!" Mary Margaret "I found you!"

"It's going to be okay" Emma told them

"Help's coming" Graham told them

"Is he okay?" Kate asked, not letting either Henry or Daniella watch

"Kate" Emma walked closer, shielding Kate's view, noticing the twins wanted to pull away from Kate's arms to watch "Guys. Don't look. Okay? Don't look"

Mary Margaret started CPR on John, "Come back to us. Come back to me"

When Margaret put her mouth on John's, he started breathing again, coughing up water.

John tried to catch his breath, "You saved me"

"She did it" Henry told them

"She did it!" Daniella smiled "She woke him up"

Emma nodded, slightly shocked "Yeah, kids. She did"

John was breathing heavily "Thank you"

"Who are you?" Mary Margaret asked

"I don't know" John answered

"It's okay" Mary Margaret told him. "You're going to be okay"

Storybrooke Hospital - Emergency Room

John was brought in by the group and EMTs for recovery.

Rachel and Whale ran closer, having been paged.

Whale looked at the group "We got it from here. Thanks"

Rachel didn't even greet the group, following after John toward the operating room.

The group watched through the outside glass of the operating room as Whale got inside

Operating Room

Rachel looked worried, starting to clean John's face from the dirt of the river, smiling slightly at his confused expression "You're okay now, Mr. David Nolan. We know who you are now. You're gonna be okay" she reassured, looking up as a blonde woman, Kathryn, David's wife burst into the room, rushing to David's side

"David?" Kathryn looked frantic at David, "David, is that you?"

Rachel glanced at Whale, looking at Kathryn "Mrs. Nolan. You can not be here" Whale looked confused. Rachel mouthed 'Regina found her' at him. Whale nodded in understanding

Kathryn tried to walk closer to David. "Oh, my God..."

Whale stopped in her way, trying to be polite "Ma'am, you can't be in here. Please, you can't be here right now"

Rachel looked annoyed, looking up "Ah, come on" she snapped, looking at a nurse "Please take her out of here" She commanded. The nurse did as told, leading Kathryn away. Once she was out, Rachel closed her eyes in relief, "Finally peace" Whale looked amused "Oh, shut up. You feel the same way. Don't deny it"

Whale didn't answer, but the answer was obvious, chuckling slightly

Outside - Emergency Room

The group watched Kathryn being led away from the operating room

"Who is that?" Mary Margaret asked

Regina walked up behind them. "His wife"

They looked at her, stunned

Enchanted Forest

Day - Forest

Snow and Charming were walking through the forest.

"So...well, you probably want this" Charming told her

Snow nodded "Right, the gold. Thank you" She handed him the pouch with his jewels and the ring "And, um, you can't get married without this"

Charming took out the ring. "Ah. I know, not your style"

Snow smiled "Well, there's only one way to find out" She tried on the ring. They looked at each other smiling slightly, "Yeah, not me at all. I'm sure your fiancée will love it"

Snow took the ring off, giving it back

Charming chuckled "Yeah. Yeah, if you need more, you can have the rest. The ring is all I require."

"Oh, no. I'm good, thanks" Snow told him "We both got what we wanted"

"Well, wherever you're going, be careful" Charming told her. "If...if you need anything-"

"You'll find me" Snow finished

Charming smiled slightly "Always"

"I almost believe that" Snow told him

"Well, goodbye, Snow White" charming told her

"Goodbye, Prince Charming" Snow told him

"I told you" Charming told her, smirking a little "It's James"

Snow smiled, "Nah, still like Charming better"

They smiled, chuckling, looking at each other for a moment longer, heading their separate ways, both glancing at each other as they left.

Night - Storybrooke Hospital - David's room

Kathryn, Rachel and David were there together. Kathryn looked happy to have David back

Rachel was checking his vitals, "You have no idea how glad we are that you're okay, Mr. Nolan" she smiled.

David chuckled a bit, looking up at Rachel "And I'm to be awake. I was told you were the one taking care of me the most? I have to thank you for that"

Rachel blushed slightly, chuckling a bit "I was only doing my job. No need to thank me"

"None of that" Kathryn looked at her gratefully "You took care of David all of this time. You and Dr. Whale. Of course you are going to get appreciation"

David nodded in agreement, "I'm really thankful. Thank you Dr. Kentworth"

Rachel looked uncomfortable, bitting her lip "Is my job. Now, if you excuse me. I recall another patient asking for a prescription"

David nodded knowingly, "Of course. Have a nice day, Doctor"

Rachel walked away, out of the room

Hallway

Emma, Henry, Daniella, Kate, Mary Margaret and Regina were are outside David's room, watching them. They saw Rachel leave the room in a hurry

Mary Margaret looked after her, confused and worried

"His name is David Nolan" Regina explained. "And that's his wife, Kathryn. And the joy on her face, well, it's put me in quite the forgiving mood" She looked at Henry and Daniella "We'll talk about your insubordination later. Do you know what insubordination means? It means you're grounded" She looked at Kate, "And you. We have things to talk about, like taking my children to the woods at this hour without telling me. What would you have done if something had happened to them?" Kate looked down, guiltily. Emma looked at her sympathetically "We'll talk later about this, Kate. For now, you will stay away from Henry and Daniella. No more babysitting them"

Henry and Daniella were shocked "What? No!"

"Okay..." Kate replied sadly, knowing she deserved that for being irresponsible with the twins. They looked at her in shock, sad and confused for her answer "Your mom is right, guys. I did wrong"

The twins sighed sadly, looking at her in sympathy and anger for Regina taking it out on her

Kathryn walked out of David's room, toward them "Thank you. Thank you for finding my David"

"Um, I-I don't understand" Mary Margaret admitted "You didn't...you didn't know that he was here in a coma?"

"A few years ago, David and I were not getting along" Kathryn explained. "It was my fault, I know that now. I was difficult and unsupportive. I told him if he didn't like things, he could leave. And he did. And I didn't stop him. It was the worst mistake I ever made"

Emma looked skeptical "You didn't go look for him?"

"I assumed he'd left town all this time" Kathryn admitted. "And now I know why I never heard from him. Now I get to do what I've wanted to do forever – say I'm sorry. Now we get a second chance"

Mary Margaret managed a small smile "That's wonderful"

Whale walked in, walking closer "Well, it's something of a miracle"

"He's okay?" Kathryn asked hopefully

"Ah, physically, he's on the mend, um, his memory is another issue" Whale answered. "It may take time, if at all"

"What brought him back?" Mary Margaret asked

"That's the thing. There's no explanation" Whale answered "Something just clicked in him"

"He just got up and decided to go for a stroll?" Emma asked skeptically

"He woke up and he was delirious and his first instinct was to go find something" Whale told them "I guess"

"Someone" Henry quipped knowingly

"Can I see him?" Kathryn asked

"Yeah, of course" Whale answered.

Kathryn walked away, entering back into David's room.

"Henry, Dani. Let's go" Regina looked at the twins.

Henry looked at Kate, hugging her "Come with us"

Kate sighed, hugging back "Can't, kiddo"

Henry sighed sadly, pulling away and walking to Regina, not looking at her

Daniella stood up, walking closer to Regina but stopped, "Wait, my backpack" She went to grab her backpack, whispering at Mary Margaret "Don't believe them. You're the one he was looking for"

"Daniella..." Mary Margaret sighed

"He was going to the Troll Bridge" Daniella told her. "It's like the end of the story"

"Dani, he was going there because it's the last thing I read to him" Mary Margaret told her

"No, it's because you belong together" Daniella insisted

"Daniella" Regina called out.

Daniella stood, giving Kate a hug before following after Regina and Henry, leaving the hospital.

Emma followed after them

Kate and Mary Margaret exchanged a look, standing up and walking away, further into the hospital. Their arms linked together.

Entrance

Emma caught up to Regina as her and the twins reached the hospital entrance.

"Madam Mayor!" Emma called out

Regina looked at Henry and Daniella "Wait by the car"

Henry and Daniella did as told, leaving the two alone

Regina plastered on a smile "Miss Swan, I let you off the hook back there. Don't press it"

"I'm sorry" Emma told her "But Mrs. Nolan? Kind of feels like her story could be a load of crap. All this time, there's a John Doe lying around in a coma and nobody puts it in the news, nobody goes looking. Something's not right here"

"Well, what else would make sense to you?" Regina asked "Why would Miss Nolan lie? Do you think I cast a spell on her?"

"I think it's rather strange you've been his emergency contact all these years and you only found her now" Emma pointed out

"Well, this town is bigger than you know" Regina replied. "It's entirely possible to get lost here. It's entirely possible for bad things to happen"

Emma raised an eyebrow "And just when it's convenient you manage to solve the mystery?"

"Thanks to you" Regina told her. Emma looked confused "That tape you found was a stroke of genius. So, we went back and looked at past tapes. Turns out Mr. Doe's been talking in his sleep. They both looked up, hearing something fall and someone cursing, seeing Rachel kneeling down and picking up several charts, sighing heavily to herself

Mary Margaret and Kate knelt next to her to help her out

"Are you okay, Doctor?" Kate asked in concern

Rachel opened her eyes, looking at them, sighing a bit. "I'm alright, thank you" she looked at Mary Margaret knowingly "How about you, Ms. Blanchard. Ms Marshall?"

Kate glanced at Mary Margaret with a knowing look, "I'm good" she shrugged

"I'm fine" Mary Margaret asked. Both Kate and Rachel gave her a look. "I'm really fine. Why wouldn't I be?"

Kate rolled her eyes "Uh, you were really worried about Mr Nolan"

"And gave him CPR" Rachel added, looking at Kate "And you found him. If I heard correctly"

"And you fixed him" Kate countered, "And yet, here the three of us seem to be moping about something"

Rachel's lips twitched a bit, amused "Not used to so many thank you's" She admitted.

"Get used to it" Mary Margaret told her softly. "You're a good doctor"

Rachel shrugged lightly, "Maybe" she replied, standing up. Kate and Mary Margaret gave her some charts they picked up. "See you two later"
