Chapter 18
I look around to see the earth scorched. Ash falls from the sky blanketing the ground in a layer of grey. The trees in the distance are charred and the field that was once lush and green is now black.
I can feel the pain I've caused to the land. I've never felt this before. It's as if I can feel the earth. The water trickling through the soil down below, the life seeping from the earth from the damage I've caused.
Placing my hands on the dead ground I feel a warmth radiate from my hands. They glow a soft green and new grass begins to grow. The field is alive once again. Full of grass and beautiful flowers. New trees spring from the grown and grow in front of my eyes.
I finish and feel a throbbing in my inner left wrist. When I look I see the elemental symbol for earth now next to my fire symbol. My eyes travel up to my hands and I notice that my fingernails have extended to sharp long claws.
"Are you okay?" Omari asks me. I look up remembering that he was with me and so was everyone else.
"Is everyone okay? Did I hurt them?" I ask worriedly.
"They're all fine. Sesman and Abigail shielded them from the fire." I nod in understanding and notice that his clothes are completely gone. Mine are as well. I must have burned them when I basically exploded but why didn't he get burned.
"Where's Cesar? I need to talk to him."
"Back there with the others." He says and nudges his head in their direction. "We need to talk about what happened."
"Later." I get up and go over to everyone. They're all looking at me with disbelief. It could be for a number of reasons. The options are the following; I became a super fireball that exploded, I now control a new element, I have claws, or because I'm naked. It could also be a combination of all of them.
"Your eyes." Ash mumbles. I look away from him and walk over to Cesar.
"I want to show you something. It might hurt a little." Confusion fills his features but he nods his head in agreement. I take a deep breath and place my hands on his temples. He drops his shield for me allowing me to enter his mind easily.
I dive inside past memories and thoughts to the deepest recesses of his mind until I find his deep dark abandoned memories. I find the memory I'm looking for. It's buried and broken but still there, just hidden. I mend it back together and bring it forward to the light. The memory starts playing and reveals the truth.
When it's finished I leave his head. My eyes open and I see his face stained with tears. I've never seen Cesar cry but he must be happy to finally know what happened the night his girlfriend and child were killed. He did his best to protect them. He's not the one who killed them like he thought.
"Thank you." He whispers. I wipe away his tears and give him a smile.
"You know what you are now, don't you?" Zach asks from behind me. "Something about you is different."
"I do but now that I know, I wish I didn't. Ironic isn't it?" I say with a dry laugh. Tyler removes his jacket and places it on my shoulders. Although I don't mind my nudity I can understand others being uncomfortable with it. Most these guys think of me as their little sister and no one wants to see their sister naked unless they have some serious issues.
From behind me, I hear bare feet stepping in the grass. It's nice to know my senses are back to normal. I turn to face Omari who stands before me in all his glory. He doesn't even bother covering his manhood which is very impressive.
"We won't talk here demon. It's not safe." I already know that he's going to ask to talk. No need for him to waste his breath. Out here is too open. Anyone could be watching. The house is the safest place to be.
"He's a demon?" Zach growls.
"Only half. Your father must have been very powerful for you to be able to hide yourself this well. I wasn't able to tell when my body was going through whatever that was but now I can sense it."
"We can't trust him. He's probably just using us to get intel and keep an eye on us." Zach says.
"There's no need to worry. Daddy and I aren't on speaking terms anymore. The only person I work for is who I deem worthy. Right now, that puts us on the same team. We all want to see Raiden go down. With my help, it's possible." Omari says in his defense.
"We'll see about that. If I don't like what I hear, I'll put a silver bullet between your eyes."
We portal back into Tyler's office and he lets me set the portal to open up outside the house. Everyone makes there way inside and finds a place to sit. The living room feels overcrowded with all the bodies filling it.
"Why don't you go put on some clothes, Jade," Ash suggests. I nod and take my time going to my room. Everyone is going to want to know what happened to me but I don't even know what happened. Was everything I saw real? Is it all going to come true? It can't. I would never side with a demon or betray those I care about. My mission has always been to protect the innocent.
I go through my closet and grab the first items my eyes land on. A pair of shorts and a ripped t-shirt. I pick up Tyson's coat off the floor and make my way back to the living room where a full-blown argument has broken out. I was so caught up in my own head I tuned out my surrounding.
Zach has a silver dagger in his hand and is trying to lunge at Omari but Ash and Dean are holding him back. I toss Tyson his jacket as I walk past him toward the two men who have caused me more issues than anyone else in my life and I barely even know them.
"Stop," I tell them keeping my voice level and monotone. I'm in no mood to deal with whatever bullshit they are starting. "We don't have time for your petty arguments. A war is starting and somehow we are all in the middle of it."
"My argument is not petty. He is a demon. You can't trust demons. He'll kill us as soon as he gets what he's after." Zach says harshly.
"I am after Jade. I kill any of you and I know I'll never get her so you can all rest easy. I am here to help. You need me."
"Why do we need you?" I ask Omari.
"Because I can explain what happened to you in that field. Sort of." He quickly adds.
"Then explain. We don't have all night. Tomorrow we have a meeting with the fae."
"I could go into detail if you want but I'm sure all of you want the quick and dirty version so long story short, Jade is a full-blown prophet now. Congratulations!" Omari says with a smile and begins clapping. When no one else joins him, he drops his hands to his side with a frown.
"How do you know?"
"Same thing happened to me around my eighteenth birthday. It happens to all prophets around then. Their full ability becomes unlocked and they can start to control their power. With some training, you'll be able to see an infinite amount of possible futures just by wanting to see them along with being able to look in the past."
"You're a prophet?" Caser asks dumbfounded.
"Yes, my father, the demon, spent a lot of time sleeping with witches and humans who had the ability or ancestry of being prophets in hopes of making himself his own personal prophet and for a while, I was until I decided not to be. He's still trying to hunt me down but thanks to my ability I'm always a step ahead of him."
"Well, that backfired on your father," Abby mumbles from the kitchen.
"How did you do that to the earth?" Ash asks me. I lift my wrist up and outwards to give them a glimpse of my new elemental Earth mark.
"Holy shit," Tyson says from the couch. He gets up and comes to take a closer look at the mark.
"Two abilities are a rare gift for a Nephilim to have, three is almost unheard of, and here you are with four. How is that possible?" Zach asks astounded.
"Fire, Earth, Telepathy, and a prophet." Dean lists. "I wish I were you. I'd be a total badass."
"Trust me. You don't want to be me."
"Can we stop with the bullshit and ask the question we all want. Jade, what are you?" Zach asks and looks at me with pleading eyes.
"Not tonight," I whisper and maybe not ever. I think to myself. "My team needs rest. You are all welcome to stay even you Omari."
"You've got to be kidding me." Zach grunts.
"If he were a threat the house would not let him enter. It hides me from my enemies and does not allow those who wish to harm me to enter. There's no reason to worry your little head, now go get some sleep." The room empties slowly as the sun begins to rise.
"You've been awfully quiet," I say to Deyvon once everyone has left and he hasn't moved an inch.
"Because I know no one can make you tell us anything. You will tell us when you're ready. I just wanted to tell you that you don't need to worry about anyone seeing you differently. You are family and no matter what you are you always will be." Then he gets up and leaves.
If only that were true.
