Chapter 14-The Dark Side
"Evie--"
Whoosh.
The girl had raised her hand, holding the obsidian black, sparking red wand and sliced it downwards, moving from her right shoulder to her left hip. From the tip of the wand, an arc of condensed black magic flew out and slammed straight forward. The magic crashed into the tree behind the hooded figure as it dodged, and the entire tree snapped before falling forward. The person hardly had enough time to get out of the way.
"Stop running away," Evie said in a murderous tone, taking a calm step forward and raising her right hand again to strike.
Somewhere in the depths of her subconsciousness, the one known as Evie Mystic was still alive, and somewhere in there, she couldn't help but think, Ahhh, well, there goes any chance of reviving Silver.
The already dead unicorn had just been crushed by that large tree. The black cloaked figure wiped his mouth with the back of his hand before turning to run.
"Come on!"
Slash.
Another lightning fast movement through the air, and the void of black magic tumbled into a large oak tree, tumbling it to the ground like a person would trip another. The fallen tree blocked the hooded man's way out, and without any choice left, he scowled and turned to face the almost-insane witch, her lips curved upwards in a light smile but her blood red eyes glaring daggers at him as she tapped her wand lightly on her palm. "Out of places to run, Voldemort?"
There was a thundering sound of hooves, and out of the corner of Evie's perfect vision, she saw the centaur Firenze swoop by and pick up Harry before vanishing into the woods. She placed one hand nonchalantly on her hip, pointing the menacingly sparking tip at the Dark Lord. "So, now that that annoying obstacle is out of the way, what are you waiting for? Afraid to clash with me head-on?"
"Evie Mystic," The rumbling voice of Voldemort came from behind the black cloak in a hissing tone. The same voice rang inside Evie's head, but she merely pulled out another wand and raised it, eradicating a barrier to keep it out. "Do you have a death wish?"
"I think not," The girl said with a sickly sweet tone. "Even if I did, you're the one who's going to die."
She leapt forward, traveling through the air at a speed so fast she passed through the level of the sonic boom. She pointed her wand at the cloaked man and released another powerful burst of black magic, sending him flying backwards. He landed heavily and raised his wand, a green glow emitting from the tip in a familiar Killing Curse.
Evie gave a mad laugh. "Now you're getting serious. Bring it!" She raised her wand.
"Avada Kedavra!"
"I'll counter that with Crucio."
To the shock of both Voldemort and Hagrid who had stumbled into to the clearing, a bright red flash shot out of the tip of Evie's wand. The red and the green spells collided like Christmas fireworks and dispersed in the air, cancelling each other out. Evie smirked. "You're open!" She lunged forward, wand poised to strike--
Crackle.
"Hold it right there!"
Evie's heels slid into the ground, forcing her to a halt. She seethed in rage at the sight of the wizard with the large beard standing before her.
"Albus Dumbledore."
She didn't say 'Professor Dumbledore' like she normally would. This Evie would never give that kind of respect.
This Evie wasn't even Evie.
Dumbledore turned around to face Voldemort. "Leave this school at once. I am warning you, and I will say it again. Leave this school at once."
Behind him, bristling with anger, Evie muttered to herself over and over again, "I'm going to kill him I'm going to kill him going to kill him kill him kill him kill him kill him kill him--"
"Evie," Dumbledore said in a warning tone.
"What?" Evie slid her menacing glare at him, both of her red eyes flashing in the moonlight.
"Tch." Voldemort vanished into the shadows.
"Let me at him," Evie ordered.
"No."
"You're in no position to tell me that, old man," Evie retorted coldly.
"Old man?!" Hagrid sputtered. "Evie Mystic, what are you--"
He broke off as Dumbledore raised a wrinkled hand calmly. "Don't worry. It'll wear off soon."
"What'll--"
Oh yeah.
At the last second, Evie remembered the fifteen minute time limit.
It was too late now. An excruciating pain rocketed throughout her body and she hunched forward, gasping in deep breaths. "No...no..." Her shoulders trembled and she dug her fingers into the ground, getting dirt in her nails. "Stop! Not now...stop it..."
Her breathing finally evened out after a few minutes and her eyes blinked slowly. One eye was red, and the other was green, just like it should be. And then her gaze slid sideways as the world around her faded slowly, and she managed to get out one word between heaving breaths.
"Silver..."

"Oh jeez, I'm an idiot."
"You are an idiot."
"Shut up, Neptunia!"
"I didn't say anything, I was merely agreeing with you. But for you to pass out twice in a week is much unlike you, Evie."
"Shut up, you damn cat!"
"Language, Evie."
"Freaking hell--"
"Is someone back there?"
At Madam Pomfrey's voice, Evie rolled her eyes and hollered, "No, just me talking to a cat. Leave me alone, old lady!"
Madam Pomfrey harrumphed and Evie heard her stalk off, muttering, "Kids these days."
"Look, Evie," The black cat leaped from the edge of the hospitalized girl's bed to the table nearby, which was overloaded with all sorts of different goods. "You got presents."
The wand in Evie's hand lit on fire. "Time to start a fire."
"You're in such a bad mood today, Evie," Neptunia complained, hopping back onto the hospital bed and curling up next to its owner.
"Yeah, it's been three years since that fiasco last happened," Evie sighed, running a hand through her loose black hair, which was currently out of its braids. The silver streak bobbed in and out of sight. "My body hurts like hell. Of course I'd be in a freaking--"
"Can you please stop with the cussing?" Neptunia asked in an annoyed tone, its ear flicking upwards sharply. "It's getting on my nerves. And can't you just heal yourself?"
"I was getting there," Evie glared at it, running her wand along her arms and legs. The bandages fell off and she stood up, stretching, feeling like nothing had happened. "So where do you want to go?"
"Build Silver a grave?"
Slam. "Don't. Even. Go. There."
"I was joking," Neptunia muttered, throwing a look of disdain at the broken wall that the tip of Evie's wall had just shattered. "Oh, I think you have guests."
"That's wonderful," Evie said sarcastically. "Who is it?"
Neptunia looked up and blinked its bright blue eyes at the girl. Then it opened its mouth in a wide yawn, its pink tongue flicking across the air as it gave an answer--
"Meow."
"You're worthless, Neptunia!" Evie hollered.
"So you were talking to your cat!"
Shoot.
Of all the people in the world, it just had to be Hermione Granger that appeared in the entry way of her hospital room.
"Oh, wonderful," Evie said sarcastically, rolling her eyes as she picked up her cat and placed it on her right shoulder. "It just had to be Little Miss Perfect, didn't it?"
Hermione huffed. "I told you not to call me that."
"I don't remember you telling me that."
"I've definitely told you that before a thousand times!"
"I don't remember you telling me that."
"Listen Evie--wait, back to what I was saying. Your cat can talk, can't it?"
Evie stared at her. "Do you know how ridiculous you sound?"
"I know what I'm saying," Hermione insisted. "I always hear you--"
"If that's all, then I'm leaving," Evie said abruptly, brushing past the genius witch. "I don't have time for idle chitchat, you know."
"I found out who Nicolas Flamel is."
Evie's footstep stopped halfway through, her high heel still floating in midair. Hermione smiled, but Evie just gave her an amused look. "Bout time. Took you a while, Princess."
"Don't call me that!"
"You told me not to call you Little Miss Perfect, Little Miss Know it All. I didn't."
"Ugh, stop! Just stop!"
Rolling her eyes in plain annoyance, Evie stormed out of the hallway, her fingers running through her long hair and braiding it in its usual two braids in fast motions.
"That was close," Neptunia remarked once they were out of the crowd. "She almost caught on to you."
"No way," Evie snorted. "The girl's an idiot."
"I hear she's the best witch of the grade."
"We're here."
Changing the topic abruptly, Evie slammed open the door to Fluffy's room with her right foot, not even flinching at the loud bam that followed. "There's our favorite dog."
"Stop, please."
"I'm not going down today. I'm waiting until that old man goes down so I can follow him. I'm just collecting clues."
"And working out stress?"
"That too, I guess."
"I thought so."
"Shut up, you damn cat!"
***
Exams came by. Dumbledore was obviously aware that she had cheated, but he let it slide as she as still under a ton of stress from that incident. Of course, nobody else could ever tell because she was generally grumpy anyway.
But here's how the cheating worked: first she used her wand to cast an illusion over herself before entering the classroom, and then she made the illusion look like she was 'writing' (not that she'd ever do something like that) while in truth, she was just filling in answers with another wand. Yeah, cheats. If you don't get caught, it's fine to do it, right? [A/N: please don't take this seriously...( =>.<= ) I'm really not encouraging you to cheat or anything]
So anyway. That went by so fast Evie hardly even realized it. She was walking down the hallway a couple of days later, Neptunia at her side and Pluto on her shoulder, when she suddenly ran smack into someone. "Hey!" She complained, picking herself up and glaring. "Watch where you're--well then, if it isn't Harry."
"Evie?" Harry stammered, scrambling to his feet. "S-Sorry, I was just--"
"In a hurry?" Evie frowned. "Where are you going?"
"Do you know where Professor Dumbledore is?" Ron blurted out.
"Pretty sure he's out," Evie said, remembering when the old wizard had dropped by personally to inform her that he'd be out of town for the next couple of days and to stay out of trouble. Yeah, like that was going to happen. "In London, I believe?"
"He's gone?" Harry repeated, astonished. "Now?"
"Is there a difference between now and later...?" Evie tilted her head. "Hang on a minute, you guys are up to something, aren't you? What are you up to?"
"No, we weren't, we were just--" Hermione started, but Evie glared her famous 'Evie-Mystic-death-glare' at her.
"What. Are. You. Up. To?" She repeated, enunciating every word clearly.
"Voldemort knows how to get past Fluffy," Harry blurted. Then he slapped his hand over his mouth, Ron and Hermione staring at him in shock.
Evie smirked. "Now you've got my attention. Go on. First tell me--how do you know about Fluffy?"
"You mean you know?" Hermione stared at Evie in shock. "How do you--"
"Hey, hey, you're looking at the girl who breaks every single rule in history either written down or not written down. Who do you think I am?" Evie said crossly, folding her arms.
"Hagrid--" Ron started, but Evie cut him off with a roll of her eyes.
"Oh, the half ogre. I should've known. Let me guess. He was at the pub one night, got drunk, played cards with a stranger, spilled the beans, and got a dragon?" Evie asked in annoyance.
"How did you know?" Harry protested.
"It's what stupid ogres do," Evie said flatly. "Get drunk and let the cat everyone worked to protect out of the bag. So what is it?"
"Why should we tell you?" Hermione demanded.
"I wouldn't mind taking it down, but," Evie gently rotated her shoulder--the vacant shoulder that Pluto wasn't on, "I'd rather be a little nicer on it."
Neptunia gave her a 'what's-wrong-with-you' look.
Evie scowled. "Don't look at me like that! Fine, I'll take it down! Gosh darn it, I really don't want to see more than one death every week, but you're giving me no choice!"
She turned on her heel and stormed off--
"You're going to kill it?" Harry turned pale. "How could you--"
"Youjusthavetoplaymusicandit'llputittosleep," Ron let out in a single breath, his words rushed and blurred.
It was enough for Evie. She smirked, turning back to face them. "Music, huh? Piece of cake. Oh, by the way, I wasn't really going to kill it. Put it to sleep, maybe. But you've made things a lot easier."
She spun on her heel and stalked towards Fluffy's room.
A/N: Yaaaayyyy another chapter finally done! Sorry it took so long (2 weeks! I mean, 13 days. I know I promised 1 week...I'll try to compensate for it sometime, but we're nearing the end, so IDK. Plus I wrote this in a single day! 😜) I said I'd update 'Lillith the Devil,' but I kinda have a huge writer's block on that and have no idea what I should put next, so I came back! Either way, I hope you liked the chapter. Now you know what I meant by Halfie. And now you know what I mean by CLIFFHANGER! XD Sorry I love cliffhangers (I hate them when I'm reading, but I love writing them.) Peace out! Hope you liked the chapter!
