Chapter 13-Detention Nights
Midnight, Saturday night. There was an eerie sense creeping about the astronomy tower, and thus, Evie went to explore.
Of course, you should know how it goes by now: where trouble is, you'll find Evie Mystic there.
Anyway, so she perched atop the windowsill daintily, invisible, looking out at the stars from a long way up (three or four stories or so?). Her hand absently stroked her cat's black fur.
Neptunia's ear flicked upwards suddenly. "I hear footsteps."
"Well well," Evie said dryly as she hopped down from the windowsill. "At this time of the hour. Troublemakers, huh?"
"I don't want to hear that from you, Evie."
Evie shrugged indifferently. "Whatever. I already have a pretty appropriate hunch on who it is."
Her multicolored eyes glinted mischievously in the moonlight as a three figures stepped into the tower.

"So, a dragon, huh?"
"Aaaahh!" Harry and Hermione both cried out in surprise, nearly dropping the crate with the young dragon that they were carrying.
"Evie?" Hermione asked in shock. "What--what are you doing here?"
"Shouldn't I be the one asking you that, Little Miss Perfect?" Evie asked skeptically.
"Oh, um," Hermione stammered. "I was just, um--"
"How d'yeh know about the dragon?" Hagrid demanded.
"What, I confirmed it the other day in the library, didn't I?" Evie said quizzically.
"Well, yea, but--"
"Shh!" Harry insisted. "Listen, Evie, you can't tell anyone."
"I was actually on my way to the forbidden forest, to be honest," Evie shrugged nonchalantly. "So see ya round. Besides, if I tried to turn you on, then I'd have to answer why I was up in the middle of the night, and that's a pain."
She flipped backwards out the window and used her wand to levitate herself safely to the ground.
"Evie Mystic!"
Almost immediately, her name rang out in the night. Professor McGonagall stood there, fuming and furious--and holding Draco Malfoy by the ear.
"Oh, hell no," Evie swore at her carelessness. "Better run." She leaped in the air and whistled sharply, ignoring Professor McGonagall's yells.
Pluto appeared in the distance and dropped Evie's broomstick in her hand, where the girl maneuvered on to it easily and zoomed off in the night.

She got detention in the end anyway. It was scheduled for the next night, and Professor McGonagall had also taken fifty points off.
Eh, whatever.
She passed by the House Cup the next day to see two hundred points gone.
Evie frowned. "Not that I care, but I'm pretty sure I only lost fifty points."
"You lost fifty points?!"
It was Alicia Spinnet.
"I can't believe you--after we spent all that time building up the lead--"
"You know I don't care about crap like this. I do what I want to do. If you don't like it, deal with it," Evie snapped.
"You ditched during our last game as well!"
"So? Not my problem it was so boring. Besides, who are you to complain if you filled in for me?"
"Does Gryffindor matter to you at all?!" Alicia yelled in frustration. Several people turned to look at her sudden raise in volume.
"No."
Alicia jerked back in surprise at her answer.
"It doesn't," Evie said flatly.
"You... What kind of person are you?" Alicia stuttered.
To her shock, Evie smirked. "Oh yeah, oh yeah... I'd forgotten how this felt. I'm Evie Mystic, from Diagon Alley! If you don't get the hell out of my way, I'll knock you down myself!" Her eyes narrowed menacingly.
Alicia and some other students stood rooted in their spots, dumbfounded.
Evie sighed, rotating her shoulder slightly. "Ah, I'm done." She snapped her fingers, and her Quidditch player jacket appeared in the air. She caught it and tossed it to Alicia. "Here. Have it. I'm quitting."
Alicia scrambled and caught it. "But--"
"I'm done playing hero for the year." She flipped her long braid over her shoulder and stalked down the hallway. "Or, no, scratch that.
I'm done playing hero forever."

She found out from Ron that Harry, Hermiome, and Neville were the culprits that had lost the other one hundred fifty points. The three looked incredibly miserable at the turn of events and being hated by the school, but Evie seemed to enjoy the hatred being pointed at her.
Well, the only ones who could tell the difference were Neptunia and Pluto. Pluto hooted happily and nuzzled its owner's chin (Evie swatted it away with a complaint) and Neptunia commented, "You seem to enjoy the attention," which earned her a sound kick.
The next morning at the breakfast table, Evie had just snapped a plate cleanly in two when Pluto entered the hall. She sighed and whistled for her owl's attention, the tip of her wand lighting on fire already.
"Wait!" Hermione grabbed her arm. "You're in trouble already! Don't make any more trouble! That should be the letter for detention--"
"You'd think I care!" Evie retorted, shaking the girl off and whipping her arm forward. "Pluto, duck!"
The owl dropped the letter and nimbly zipped out of the way. A huge column of fire skimmed through the air and scorched the letter to ashes. The ashes dropped on someone in Ravenclaw's head and the boy turned to her with a glare, patting his hair.
"Evie," Professor McGonagall was at her side immediately. "You already have a detention. Do you really want another one?"
Hermione gave her a sour 'I-told-you-so' look.
"Does it look like I care about this crap?" Evie seethed murderously. "If you have glasses for a reason, lady, then I don't believe you. Pluto!" She whistled, and with a flurry of black feathers, Pluto landed on her shoulder. She spun around and slammed the door open with her foot, storming out.
"Eleven o' clock, Evie!" Professor McGonagall called after her. "Mr. Filch will be waiting for you at the entrance--"
Bam. The door slammed shut.
***
Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, Neville Longbottom, and Draco Malfoy. Oh, and Filch. These were the people waiting at the entrance hall at eleven o' clock that night.
"Miss Mystic," Filch hissed at the sight of Evie's figure at the top of the stairs. "Pleased to see you here."
"Aw, crap," Evie muttered as at her feet, Neptunia and Mrs. Norris began a cat fight. "Knew I should've turned myself invisible."
Filch glared at her before taking a lantern and stalking out the door. "Follow me."
"Where are we going?" Malfoy demanded as the five children exited the school.
"We're going to the forest--"
"The forest?" Evie repeated. "No way. We're breaking rules for breaking rules? Hogwarts is unbelievable. I'm so going ahead. Someone's waiting for me." Without waiting for an answer, she placed Neptunia atop her shoulder and zoomed into the sky, her body encasing in a lavender glow from the power of her wand.
She landed at the mouth of the forest to see Hagrid. "Evie!" He bellowed. "Good to see yeh. What have you been--where yeh going?"
"I'd love to stay and chitchat, but Silver and I have an appointment," Evie said sarcastically as she and Neptunia took the air again with another giant leap. "Ciao."
Hagrid, being the half giant he was, reached up and grabbed her ankle before she could get very far. "Hold it right there!"
Evie landed again and hissed at the man, her red eye glowering slightly more than her green one. "Don't touch me, you stupid beast."
Hagrid ignored the insult. "I don't know what you're talking about, but yeh can't go in there by yourself. There's been--"
"Unicorn killings, yes, I know," Evie said flatly, and Hagrid spun around to look at her in shock.
"What? How did yeh know?"
"You don't really think I've never been here before, do you?" Evie asked skeptically. "Okay, you're stupid. You can't be--oh. My. God. What the hell is that shiny silver stuff?"
"Unicorn blood," Neptunia whispered in Evie's ear.
Evie's eyes flashed defiantly. "Unicorn blood? You can't be serious, can you?"
"I didn't say anythin'," Hagrid said in confusion.
"And I wasn't talking to you, you moron," Evie snapped back automatically.
"Evie!"
This voice belonged to Hermione. She and the three other boys ran up to them. Neville and Malfoy looked scared to the point where they had turned pale.
"Harry!" Hagrid boomed and headed over to the boy.
"We're not going in there are we?" Malfoy squeaked. "We can't! Wait till my father hears about this!"
"Shut it," Evie snapped. "You're just chicken."
"What'd you say?" Malfoy seethed.
This was nothing compared to Evie's murderous gaze of fury. "What, didn't hear me? Looks like you're deaf as well as chicken and stupid."
"Evie Mystic..." Malfoy threatened. "I...I...wait till my father hears about this!"
Evie snorted. "You need to get a new comeback, Blonde."
"All right, let's go!" Hagrid boomed. "We're looking for a unicorn. There have been rumors of unicorn getting hurt, and this silver stuff--" he knelt and scooped some of it up with his fingers "--is its blood. We're going to find it and see if we can help it. We might need to put it out of its misery, though."
Any unicorn other than Silver and I'd be fine with that, Evie thought. But it's not like I can't heal them...
Oh, since when did I care?!
Are you there, Evie?
What's wrong with you, calling my name so casually? Evie retorted to the voice in her head. Seriously, people these days!
Meanwhile, Hagrid split them into two groups. It was him with Harry and Hermione. Evie was in a group with Malfoy, Neville, and the dog, Fang. She was not happy about this, but she rolled her eyes and continued her mental conversation with Voldemort.
I never thought you would be here tonight, Evie.
Does that mean you're here too? And seriously, don't say my name like that. It's just plain weird.
Request denied. And I may not be here, though a figure of my embodiment is here.
No idea what you're talking about, but whatever.
Evie--
No.
E--
Don't even think about it!
...very well. I'll be leaving you a little present, Evie Mystic. I hope you like it...
"Aaahhhh!"
She snapped her head up just in time to see red sparks go up in the air from Neville. Malfoy stood behind him, grinning and smirking. Seconds later, there was a thundering and crashing sound as Hagrid tumbled through the forest, appearing before the trio--plus the dog.
"What happened?" He demanded.
Evie shrugged. "Dunno."
"Um, I, Malfoy--" Neville stuttered.
Hagrid seemed to understand the situation and scowled in frustration. "Evie, Malfoy, stay here. Neville, you come with me. We'll be switching up the groups."
So Harry came back sometime later.
They walked for nearly half an hour, their steps growing heavy with every movement, and the trees and woods seemed to be getting darker and thicker.
But the blood was getting thicker as well. And then, as a clearing appeared--
"Look," Harry murmured quietly, taking both Malfoy and Evie's arms in one hand as his other was holding a lamp.
There, in the roots of a large tree, was a unicorn. A dead unicorn--
"Silver."
The word left Evie's lips before she even realized it, and she stared at the sight before her in horror. Her friend's beautiful and majestic shape lay splayed out in the open--
And a dark figure knelt next to it, kneeling down and...
Drinking its blood.
"AAAAARRRRRGGGHHHHH!" With a terrified scream, Malfoy and Fang both bolted. But Evie took a cautious step forward.
The shape looked up. Behind her, Harry crumpled to the ground in pain, clutching the scar on his forehead. It looked like it hurt, a lot, but Evie hardly even noticed.
"No..." Her voice didn't even sound like her own.
Evie Mystic...I told you you would like my present.
Evie's shoulders trembled. Her hands clenched in a tight fist, her nails digging into her skin.
Neptunia skunked into the darkness. "She's going to explode. There's no doubt."
Yes, that's right--Evie Mystic was furious.
"You..."
Even amidst the pain that looked so harsh it put the boy on the brink of consciousness, Harry opened his eyes blearily and looked at the girl in front of him. That one word Evie spoke held so much murderous intent it was incredible to believe she was only eleven years old.
"You!" She screamed, squeezing her eyes shut. Her body erupted in a shower of black magic, encasing around her. Her long, black hair came out of its braids, the ponytails snapping and the tendrils of black hair unfurling in the wind and billowing behind her. The silver streak flashed in and out of the moonlight. Her first wand, an obsidian black wand with red sparks spraying off the tip, flew in the air and into her hand.
When Evie Mystic opened her eyes, full of murderous intent--
"I'm going to kill you."
Both of her eyes glowered in a stark, blood red shade.
A/N: Cliffhanger! Now things are getting interesting! I'm getting excited. This part is interesting! Stick with me! We're nearing the end! 😜 Love you guys! Oh, and by the way, I literally did half of this chapter off the top of my mind, so the words are definitely not directly from the book. Don't blame me on that one; I had piano and tennis, it was a heck of a day. So yeah. Oh, and I'm thinking about pausing this just for a little bit, just to write one chapter in my other story, Lillith the Devil. It'd be cool if you could find time to check it out. Thanks!
