Drako (Part 1)
(Here we have another one of your past adventures. Apparently, you spent a lot of time around the dragons of a lost island.)
Burning heat on the back of my neck
The fiery noon sun has risen high.
Tropical jungle air is very thick
Some soft white clouds dot the sky.
My nose is then surprised,
by the smell of smoke!
The odor causes me to gasp,
I was eating coconut and nearly choked!
Smoke itself should not surprise me
I've been living on this island for months by now.
The native tribes here ride on dragons
They befriended the beasts but I don't know how!
Still, dragons here are somewhat careful
They rarely spit fire, for the whole jungle might blaze.
Then there would be no animals for them to hunt,
They would be starved of food for many days!
My eyes search the sky for the gigantic reptiles,
Their scales as large and thick as metal plates.
I learned they prefer to fly
Only grounded in sleep or while protecting hatchlings and mates.
While looking up
I tie a sheathed sword to my belt.
The dragons may be friendly
But an angry bite is something I'd rather fight than have felt.
Suddenly two huge dragons
Come crashing through the trees at my right!
The jungle now filled with roars and smoke
They're in the middle of a fight!
One is a wild purple hydra with three heads
It tries biting the other, every tooth a sharpened knife.
The other is a friendly red beast
It's human rider holding on for dear life!
The human looks at me with begging eyes
Like I am his only savior and hope.
I see he can't escape because his hands are tied
The rider's saddle reins are tangled, his hands are tightly knotted up in rope!
In an instant I jump up beside him on the red dragon
There is no time to waste.
I pull out my sword
And carefully cut the ropes without making any haste.
The dragon rider falls to the sand below
In his foreign language he says thank you for the save.
Then something unexpected happens
I have no experience riding dragons so I'll just have to be brave!
I grip what's left of the ropes as my red dragon launches into the air.
The purple hydra follows after us,
The teeth in all three of its heads are sharp and bare!
As we soar higher, pressure builds in my ears.
I focus on the task at hand
Trying to forget if heights are one of my greatest fears.
The air pushes on my face and hair
I start feeling as if my stomach is going to drop!
Then forceful air becomes gentle wind
All of the dizzy feelings slowly stop.
I notice the passing clouds at my sides
And realise the dragon now flies forward instead of up.
I much prefer this gliding
To that take off which was terrifyingly abrupt!
Then I feel like I am leaning forward
And realize the dragon I ride is about to dive!
So I squeeze my hands around the rope
The knuckles on my fingers turning white,
I'm really tense in all five!
I look ahead and am shocked
To realize the reason for this downward dash.
The hydra is right below us!
My red dragon wants all three of us to crash!
(If only you knew what that dragon was thinking. :) Please vote and comment! Especially if you love dragons or feel the same way about heights.)
