First and foremost, I must again point out the fact that the setting and many of the characters are not my own. Daring Dashwood and his stalwart ghoul manservant, Argyle, are from a radio drama series, "The Adventures of Daring Dashwood", featured in the game "Fallout 3" by Bethesda Softworks.
Like "The Adventures of Daring Dashwood", all the songs linked in this story, with one exception, are broadcast on Galaxy News Radio, one of Fallout 3's in-game radio stations. The sole exception, Bob Crosby's 1943 version of "Dear Hearts and Gentle People", was used in the trailer for the game.
Paradise Falls, Tenpenny Tower, Rivet City, St. Monica's, and the Capital Wasteland itself are all taken from the game, as are Penelope Chase, Alistair Tenpenny, Harmon Jurley, mirelurks, super mutants, "ghouls", ant nectar (yum!), Stealth Boys, mini-nukes, and Daring Dashwood's inveterate fondness for the common garden gnome.
Will, Cassandra (assuming you don't still think she's really Penelope), and the hapless Slavers # 1 and # 2 are my own. Sometimes I think poor Slaver # 1 needs his own side story.
More importantly, I'd like to thank you all for your kind comments and your patience. I started this short series in a fit of self-indulgence, wanting to play with the radio format in a stress-free setting. This is fan fiction for a fandom-within-a-fandom, in a niche so obscure that I'd never seen anything featuring the characters - I figured nobody would ever read it. Apparently, I was wrong about that.
It delights me that so many people who have never even heard of "Fallout 3", let alone Daring Dashwood, have been kind enough to read and comment. Thank you all. It also pleases me that the few readers who have played the game have been sweet enough to tell me I didn't ruin their beloved characters. Thanks for that as well.
Right now, Daring Dashwood, his friends, and his family are safe, well-fed, and preparing for a huge celebration. Let's give them some space to enjoy their happiness, at least for the moment. In the words of Galaxy News Radio's DJ, Three Dog, "Thanks for listening, children!"
