The building that Freyr was stalking was in the middle of nowhere and it was surrounded by the heavy forest and hidden beneath a mountain.
There wasn't anyone on the perimeter and according to the anonymous tip that they received, there would be no one else except the one that they had been looking for, and an extra ‘gift’.
Of course Dottore was not that easy to believe an anonymous letter, especially since the delivery method was using one of their secret methods that had been used for a hundred years or more. Only someone who had a deep knowledge about their system would be able to deliver the letter that way.
When Dottore received the old fashioned, hand-written letter, he was quite surprised, but he immediately sent Freyr to check the authenticity of the information, since Freyr by himself was equal to a demon army from hell and he should have no problem facing anything even if the information was only a lure to harm them.
Dottore also put the newest chest camera that Kai invented on Freyr, so he could see the situation live, and also give instruction to Freyr if needed, and so far, everything was as described in the letter to a T.
“No one’s here.” Freyr spoke to Dottore. “I’m gonna go inside now and see what kind of gift they left us.”
He almost couldn’t hold back his excitement since lately he was super bored with nothing to do except handling petty cases that didn’t take him long to solve. Sometimes he wished that the war wasn’t over yet so that he could go on the killing spree like back when they were in a war with those angels.
Ah, good times.
Freyr then entered the building – which he found out that the security measure had been disabled – and there were traces of red powder everywhere.
He crouched down to see the red powder from up close when he heard Dottore tell him to collect some samples of the red powder. He took out a sample bag from his space inventory and collected the powder by waving his hand and using his power to avoid touching it directly.
“Done.”
He kept the bag inside the shared inventory part and continued his walk to the secret basement.
According to the map that was included in the letter, he had to access the secret basement from the elevator and pressed the B2, B, 5, L, LG in consecutive manner and the elevator would take him to the secret part of the building that only the upper echelon would be able to access.
“This is like an espionage movie. You should do this too sometimes, Kai, so that we could all play in the escape room together.” Freyr chuckled and Kai – who was monitoring him together with Dottore – chuckled too while sweating profusely.
The Devourers wanted to play escape room?
Well, he probably should build something that could withstand multiple nuclear bombs to do that.
On second thoughts, the abandoned building was probably a good place to build a base. It was very spacious, and from the camera he could see that it was perfectly hidden from anyone, even the satellite and drones. He could add an extra layer of kekkai and voila!
He then informed Duncan to investigate and purchase the whole mountain before he continued to monitor Freyr.
Freyr on the other hand, stepped out of the elevator and he whistled some random song while walking toward the place that marked X on the map.
It was a dead end with a huge floor to ceiling mirror, and Freyr double checked the map once again, but he didn’t make any mistake, so the only solution was the mirror.
He moved closer to it and saw that his reflection was rippled, and he touched the surface of the mirror – only to find out that it was not a hard surface but more like a liquid.
“Step back a little, Freyr. There’s a rune writing around the mirror and I think it’s the key to open the secret cache…” But before Kai could transcribe the runes, Freyr had already opened the secret place behind the mirror.
“We’ve been using rune language since thousands of years ago, so, you may say that we’re… quite proficient at it.” Dottore chuckled when he saw Kai’s confusion. “And all other dead languages. Freyr is actually a genius although he didn’t show it often.”
“So, all brawn and no brain act of his was all just an act?” Kai asked while chuckling and he heard Freyr protested.
“Hey!” He sounded so offended but Kai knew Freyr was joking. He was never angry at anything and always acted happy-go-lucky around everyone, so no one really knew about his true personality except for Dottore and Freyja.
“I’ve found them.” Suddenly Freyr’s voice sounded serious. “I’m gonna open a portal for you guys.” He snapped his fingers and a portal was opened beside him that connected to Kai and Dottore’s side.
At that moment, a golden circle appeared next to Dottore and Kai, and the size was around 3 meters tall and 2 meters wide, and both Dottore and Kai could see Freyr on the other side.
“Why don’t we directly use this portal in the first place?” Kai asked Dottore while being amazed by the Devourer’s power.
“Because we have to know the location first before we can open a portal. After we’ve been to a place once, the coordinates will be stored in our memory and we will be able to revisit the place many times in the future.” Dottore stepped into the portal and watched as Freyr tinkled with the panel in front of the first huge glass cylinder filled with liquid and Kai saw that there was a person inside.
The person was tall and fit, with long black hair and black and golden scales on his arms and legs, and he also had a long tail and two horns on his head.
Kai looked at the man and he was fascinated with his appearance, but then he saw an identical cylinder with another person on the other corner of the room.
“There’s another one over there.” Kai pointed to the direction of the other cylinder and approached it – together with Dottore and Freyr.
“Well, well, well, it seems that our anonymous informant really gave us a great present this time.” Dottore watched the person inside the cylinder with surprise in his eyes.
This man looked young, and he looked like a Devourer with his long silver hair and insanely handsome face and perfect body. But there was one difference that made Dottore look at him with such an interest in his eyes.
He was covered by a thin, gossamer-like transparent fabric with golden veins that moved like it was alive. And it seemed to be a part of his body, not a separate entity.
“Fascinating.” Dottore observed the young man closely.
“There's one other tank, but it was empty, Dottore.” Freyr called for Dottore while pointing to another cylinder near the young man, but it was empty and there was a crack on it. “Maybe whoever was inside escaped?”
“The purchase of this land has gone through. Why don’t we put a permanent portal that connects here to my place since it’s probably hard to move the tanks?” Kai informed them, and Dottore smiled as he patted Kai’s back.
“Good job, kid. Yes, I will change the coordinates from the mirror to connect to your place, that way we can go back and forth more conveniently.”
“I’ll do that, Dottore. You wanna see and learn, kid?” Freyr gestured to Kai to follow him back to the strange mirror because he knew that Dottore would have wanted to have some time with the bodies.
After they left, Dottore approached the first body and touched the glass fondly.
“Finally, I’ve found you.”
