Doubt

(Danny is the shy kid. Nobody knows his secret except for Sam and Tucker.)

Another song fic since I haven't done one in awhile!

—-

Everyone was running around frantically. They were at the competition against all the schools in Amity Park which was a total of 54. One student from each school was chosen to preform for their school.

And the chosen one for Casper High happened to be missing.

Danny nervously played with the hem of his sleeve as everyone was running around. His ears hurt from all of the talking and yelling.

"Daniel!" Dannys heart nearly jumped from his chest when his name was called. Danny turned around and saw his teacher, Mr Lancer.

"Why're you back here? Aren't you supposed to be in the audience with the rest of your class?" Lancer asked, giving him a stern look.

Danny swallowed nervously. He wished he was in the audience instead of backstage.

"I-I'm supposed to be w-watching the music e-equipment while t-they look for Natalie" Danny stuttered out.

Well, technically they asked Dash to do it. But he made Danny do it because he didn't want to and 'had way better things to do unlike a certain black haired wimp'.

"I see..." Lancer said. Danny looked down at his old worn out shoes. He wished there weren't so many people around. He absolutely hated large crowds. Plus, he couldn't go invisible and risk his secret.

They stood there in awkward silence until the musicians, who had helped search for Natalie, came running back.

"Did you find her?" Lancer asked. They nodded their heads and one spoke.
"We found her outside, puking. It looks like she caught the stomach flu. Her parents came and took her home" He explained.

Lancers eyes widened.
"What are we going to do?? We're one of the first ten preforming" Lancer exclaimed.

"You could try and find a replacement" Another musician offered.

"A replacement? She was the most talented at Casper High. How're we going to find a suitable replacement in time" Lancer mumbled, more to himself. He rubbed his eyes and groaned.
"This is going to be a disaster"

Danny knew why Lancer seemed so stressed. The winner gets money for their school. Caspers textbooks were old and outdated, not to mention the desks were falling apart and some kids had to sit on the floor or stand because there weren't a lot of chairs.

Danny knew that Casper High needed that money.

"I-I'll do it" Danny said, voice soft and timid. He didn't expect Lancer to hear, but he did.

Lancer looked at him in surprise.
"You can't be serious, Daniel. I mean this in the least harmful way, but this is a very serious competition and-"

"I don't really think you have another choice, sir. The competition has just started and your school is gonna have to preform soon" One musician said.

Lancer sighed. He looked at Danny.
"Are you sure?" He asked. Danny nodded his head, a little hurt by how much he doubted him. But he couldn't blame him, after all, he could barely speak one sentence without stuttering nervously.

"Alright"

—-

"Ok, next up is Casper High. Their student nominee is Natalie Brooks who will be singing-" The judge was interrupted by Lancer.

The judge nodded his head and Lancer walked back to where his students were seated.

"Nevermind, the student nominee is Daniel James Fenton who will be taking over for Natalie" The judge said.

Everyone in Casper High began protesting. They absolutely refused to let Danny preform for their school.

"Hell no! We actually want to win!" Dash yelled out. Everyone, except for Sam and Tucker, agreed.

Dannys heart was racing. He was also angry, his own school had no faith in him.

Danny gripped the microphone so hard, it cracked. A hand was placed on his shoulder, comfortingly.

"Hey, you'll be ok. Don't listen to them, I bet you'll be amazing" Another musician said. Danny recognized him as the one who had persuaded Lancer into agreeing. Danny smiled.

"Thanks. It means a lot" Danny said, beginning to relax. At least someone had faith in him. He suddenly realized that was the first sentence he spoke with stumbling over his words.

"I'm Scott, by the way" He said.

"Danny" Danny smiled.

All of the musicians, including Scott, walked out on stage and went to their instruments. He sent Danny a smile and a thumbs up.

Danny took a deep breath and closed his eyes.

He could do this.

He walked out on stage and everyone immediately stopped protesting. They were quiet as Danny made it to the center of the stage.

Danny began playing with the sleeve of his sweatshirt, again. It was a nervous habit.

"He's too nervous! He'll mess up!" Brent, one of Dashs friends, said. Everyone began protesting once more. Danny stopped his nervous habit. He had to look confident.

"One minute" he mumbled. He left the stage and took off his oversized red hoodie. He combed his fingers through his hair to try and make it more presentable.

He grabbed a new microphone, one that didn't have a crack, and walked back on stage.

He didn't hesitate as he told the musicians to start. Danny looked back towards the audience. The students from Casper High were still arguing. The other schools didn't really pay much attention to Danny. If his own school didn't think he'd do great then they didn't have anything to worry about.

(Go ahead and press play)

"This is stupid! Why bother preforming when there's absolutely no chance of winning?" Ned grumbled, rolling his eyes.

Do you feel the same when i'm away from you?

Everyone's eyes widened in shock. They all shut up and turned their attention onto Danny.

Do you know the line that i'd walk for you?
We could turn around or we could give it up
But we'll take what comes, take what comes

Lancer could not hide the shock on his face. He wondered why Danny hadn't been picked in the first place. That is, if someone had even known he could sing.

Oh the storm is raging against us now
If you're afraid of falling then don't look down
But we took the step or we took the leap
And we'll take what comes, take what comes

His classmates felt guilt. They immediately regretted their actions. They should have had more faith in him and less doubt.

Feel the wind in your hair
Feel the rush way up here

We're walking the wire, Love
We're walking the wire, Love
We're gonna be higher, Up

We're walking the wire, wire, wire,

There's nights we had that just walk away
And there's tears we'll cry but those tears will fade, Its the price we pay when it comes to love
And we'll take what comes, take what comes

Scott was smiling as he played the guitar. He knew Danny would be great.

Feel the wind in your hair
Feel the rush way up here
We're walking the wire, Love
We're walking the wire, Love
We're gonna be higher, Up

The rest of the schools looked very nervous as Danny continued to sing.

We're walking the wire, wire, wire so look out down below
look out down below
look out down below
Walking the wire, wire, wire so
Look out down below

Oh, I'll take your hand when thunder roars
And i'll hold you close i'll stay the course
I promise you from up above
That we'll take what comes, take what comes, love

Danny didn't feel nervous at all as he was singing. He liked it that way.

We're walking the wire, Love
We're walking the wire, Love
We're gonna be higher, Up
We're walking the wire, wire, wire

So look out down below
Look out down below
Look out down below
Walking the wire, wire, wire
So look out down below

We're walking the wire
We're walking the wire
We're walking the wire, wire, wire

The music stopped and everyone was silent. Danny turned around, ready to walk off stage, when the crowd burst into applause.

Danny couldn't stop the shy smile from appearing onto his face as the clapping and cheering continued.

The judges shushed the crowd so they could speak.

"Well, Daniel... that was excellent! Best thing I've heard all day" The judge said, smiling.

"Uh, t-thankyou" Danny didn't care that he stuttered.

He then walked off of the stage. They called up the next contestant who looked very nervous. Danny put his microphone down and grabbed his sweatshirt. He decided to leave it off.

Danny walked back into the audience who made sure to clear a path for him. He made it where his class was. They all remained silent, to guilty to talk to him.

"Dude, that was amazing!" Tucker exclaimed. Danny smiled and shrugged.

"Seriously, we had no idea that you could sing. Why didn't you tell us?" Sam asked. Danny just shrugged again, not really wanting to talk.

—-

It took took three and a half hours to get through everyone. The judges were all onstage, talking to eachother quietly.

Everyone was nervously waiting in their seats. Nobody could talk. Sam and Tucker each had a comforting hand on Dannys shoulder as he tapped his foot against the ground anxiously.

"The winner of this years 'most talented student' will receive a large donation to their school" The judge began, speaking slowly.

"And this years winner is..."

Everyone held their breath.

"Casper High!" The judge announced. Every student stood up, cheering.

"Congratulations to Daniel James Fenton, whose talented preformance led to their victory"

Everyone turned towards Danny to thank him.

But he was gone.

—-

Danny breathed in the fresh air. As soon as he heard he had won, he rushed out.

He looked up at the clear night sky. He watched a shooting star fly by and he smiled.

Hopefully, nobody will doubt him again.
