Batman - 2

"Waiting for you, took you long enough by the way," I replied, jumping up.

"How'd you get down here?" He asked sharply.

"I phased through the ceiling. Nice cave, by the way." I stood in front of him, looking up at him. Cause he is- er, was- taller than me. Always was, and probably always will be. But hey, I'm pretty short, so most people are taller then I am. Don't even get me started on the rest of the Justice League.

"Is there a reason you tracked me back to my home?" Bruce asked.

"Yeah, you can't fight mystical creatures, and you're going to need to soon," I replied evenly.

"Is that a threat?" He asked.

"No, it's a warning."

"Leave," he snapped.

"Fine, but you have to promise me one thing," I said quickly, floating up into the air.

"What," he growled.

"Call me if you need me. And I don't mean when you're on death's door. I mean when you actually need my help." I shook my head, tossing a piece of paper at him. "My phone number, if you will."

I waved goodbye, phasing through the ceiling. Now, I just had to wait for tomorrow night, when that circus act was. I hadn't been to the circus in so long, I guess I just wanted to go. It was the right choice, for once.

Apparently, putting a family that couldn't fly on a trapeze that's high enough off the ground that they could die if they fell, is a good idea. Don't ask me why, but still. After a few flips, little Richard Greyson joined his parents in the air, performing alongside them with an ease that made me think he'd been doing it his entire life.

A noise alerted me that something was wrong. I wasn't quite sure what the noise was, but it wasn't part of the normal circus cacophony. I shot up into the air, shedding the coat I had been wearing to at least try and fit in. Danny Fenton was a little too recognizable, so I almost never looked human.

One of the trapeze lines snapped all of a sudden, the entire family beginning to fall. I raced towards them, but only managed to catch the smallest one, Richard, his parents falling to their deaths.

"Mami, Papi!" He shouted, trying in vain to wiggle out of my arms. Had to admit, for a nine-year-old, he was strong. Still is, but his strength now is more equal to his age.

"Hey, hold still, do you want to plummet to your death?" I asked, trying in vain to restrain the smaller boy. I quickly landed on the dusty floor of the circus, setting the boy down, but keeping him from seeing his parent's bodies, their lifeless eyes staring off into nowhere. "Come on Richard, let's get out of their way." I herded the younger boy off to the side where I could see Bruce Wayne standing.

"Danny Phantom," he said solemnly. "I thought you haunted Amity Park?"

"I did, but I currently roam around. I saw the circus was in town, and I decided to go. Apparently, I made the right choice." I patted the head of the small boy. "One person is alive because of me."

Bruce remained silent, surveying the smaller boy currently sort of clinging to my suit.

"Hey, Richard, why don't you go with Mr. Wayne here, he'll help you get the help that I can't." Richard looked up at me and nodded, releasing the fabric of my jumpsuit, and walking over to Bruce, who escorted him out. "I suggest adoption," I called after them.

I turned back to see paramedics hoisting the dead Graysons onto stretchers. I frowned, worry lines creasing my head. I couldn't do anything, they had died because I couldn't save them. Because I wasn't good enough. I quickly shook myself from that line of thought, going down that path inevitably led to thoughts of Dan, old worries showing up even though I'd out aged him long ago. Of course, thinking about Dan leads to thinking about everyone I left behind. Sam, Tucker, Jazz, Jack and Maddie, even Dash, Paulina, Valerie, and all the others. A couple were still alive, but we'd all agreed it was best if the GIW couldn't track me, so we cut off all communication. I still kept up with news from Amity Park in the newspapers though, getting wistful whenever the newspaper informs the world of some cool new invention that Tucker invented, or how Sam was changing the world. I shook myself from my thoughts just in time to see the mass exodus of the stands out into the parking lots.

I flew up, phasing through the ceiling just in time to see little Richard getting into the limo with Bruce, a small bag clutched to his chest. I hadn't realized I'd been lost in thought so long, I really should keep my thinking rants shorter.
