November 2000 | Schule: Daniel meets Múnich and his first friends
Daniel was sitting on the bench in a small park in Unterhaching. He was sipping a soda while watching the wind calmly sway the trees, and for the first time in his life he didn't know where to go.
Well, without exaggeration.
In reality, Daniel did not know where he would go to stay, at that time his main concern was whether at the end of the day he would have a roof under which to sleep. Unsurprising concerns for someone as drawn to drama as Daniel was.
A couple of hours ago he had arrived at Unterhaching in Munich, the site where Schule would be filmed. Daniel's situation was quite positive regarding the film, since he would be the protagonist, yes, he would be Markus "Schnubbi" and his name would appear at the beginning of the credits of the cast. Daniel was very happy about this, as he would have a satisfactory pay, the director was a great person, his casting partners were great, the work environment in general was extremely pleasant. The only problem was that he had almost no money, and in the end he couldn't help but remember what his father had told him: "... actors are always unemployed."
"He meant that actors are always miserable ..." thought Daniel.
- Hello, what is it friend, why are you so crestfallen?
Daniel looked up at the affable voice. He recognized the figure immediately, it was one of his casting partners.
- Hello ... you are Denis, or am I wrong.
- Touché, friend. The young man held out his hand and drew a smile. Denis Moschitto.
Daniel smiled and took Denis's hand in a tight grip.
- I'm Daniel, Daniel Brühl.
- Daniel, uh ...
- Yes.
- And now, Daniel, tell me, why are you with that suicidal face?
Daniel laughed, as Denis took a seat next to him, ready to listen to his tragic story.
- Well, I ... I have nowhere to stay.
- Ah, you don't have accommodation ...
- Not...
- ... or you don't have money.
- Both, but mainly the first ... well, the second too ... Both.
- You seem like an adventurous type, huh. You come here, not knowing what fate has in store for you ...
Daniel laughed again.
- I am your guardian angel, Daniel, sent exclusively to save you.
Daniel looked at him with incredulous and intriguing eyes.
- I'm staying with some friends of mine, in Pittingerstraße. They are studying here, and they shared a room with me about one of them who left the ship. They are very cool guys, and you know that where one fits two, I'm sure they'll love having you there, especially because they believe that the bigger the crowd, the more fun.
- Me...
- You, yes, what do you say ... do you dare ?. Because if not ... there is no mess.
- I was not expecting this ...
- Well, we are both work colleagues, I think it is a minimal gesture of solidarity on my part not to allow you to die of hypothermia in some alley, don't you think?
Daniel smiled and shook his head affirmatively.
- Sure, you are right. So I accept.
- Great, get ready for some unforgettable days.
Then they both went to the bus stop to go to Pittingerstraße, where Denis's friends welcomed Daniel with great effusiveness, and in fact, he was already signed up for a big party in the evening, with what Daniel liked. the holidays ... he couldn't be happier.

A week ago Amanda's older sister had moved with her to a much smaller apartment in a neighborhood farther from the center of the city, everything was to save on the stay that both were going to endure there for the next few years. Amanda felt that her ideas did not fit in a shared 3 x 3 meter room. He went to the only window and when he opened it he saw, to his amazement, that he could see the windows of his neighbors from a few meters away, and at night he could even listen to the conversations on the phone that they had while they were on their balconies. On one of those nights, while his sister slept next to him, he suddenly remembered Daniel, and wondered if he too would be in a small room in Munich, if he would be alone, if he would be scared with his crap, or if he would not know where to go ...
--------------------------------------------
Daniel had started working on the Schule filming. During all that time no one had messed with him, no one had tried to attempt on his life, and his companions seemed too normal, although they opened his eyes even more because he saw that some of them had potential and that, like him, they had a small professional history behind them and they were looking to make their way into the, not so easy, world of German cinema. Some were ambitious, but all were clear about what they wanted for their lives.
While filming, Daniel realized that he was beginning to feel paranoid. He looked at himself and saw the other actors and could not help but feel that he was the most serious and unemotional of the group, maybe he was taking everything too seriously ... but, that was his job, it had to be professional ... but why were they laughing and he could barely crack a difficult smile? He looked at Denis and admired his calm and carefree demeanor, although that didn't mean he lost his professionalism as he took every scene conscientiously. Every day he liked Denis more, and he was happy to live on the same floor with him, and that they had become such good friends. They even planned that since Denis originally lived near Cologne, the two of them could rent an apartment and pay expenses together. Denis up to that point had only participated in television series, but Daniel was more than convinced that he was a talented actor and would soon act in more significant films.
A week later, Daniel was feeling better. He had gained more confidence on set and with his teammates. He could already make jokes off-camera and the festive atmosphere on the weekends with Denis's friends was wonderful for his mental state. He had met more than ten girls in all that time and had dated two. He was on a sleepy sway.
One night, Denis's friends offered Daniel a type of exotic marijuana.
Daniel grabbed the paper with the marijuana and leaned against the back of his bed while all of Denis's friends chattered around him, and he stared at the weed thoughtfully.
- What's up Daniel. You're scare of it? - one of them mocked him.
"How long can you keep this in storage?" Daniel asked quietly.
- Man, those things are not to keep, they are to be enjoyed.
- But how long could you keep it.
- You're smart, uh ... you want to enjoy it little by little ...
Daniel just smiled.
"I suppose that if you have it in a dry environment, at room temperature, that it does not get the sun, and in a good bottle ... hold on," said his interlocutor.
Daniel nodded smiling. The other boy went back to his business, and Daniel carefully folded the paper, he had big plans for that special marijuana.

Finally, on the first day of December, Miriam arrived at her clothing store with news from Daniel. Amanda was organizing the last stock of T-shirts for the store that she would soon close, once Miriam got married at the end of December and moved with her husband to Cologne to open a furniture and decoration store there. And it was under those circumstances that Amanda received the last payment on her debt.
It so happens that Daniel had finished filming his film in Munich, collected all the money he owed Amanda from her payment and sent it to him through her sister Miriam hers.
There was nothing else left.
Daniel had returned to Cologne, together with his parents. He had in mind to participate in another movie there, raise another little money and carry out the plan he had with Denis to move with him to an apartment in Cologne. Then, suddenly, his life already had a direction.
Amanda had the money in her hands, and she couldn't help but think that this was the product of Daniel's hard work in front of the cameras, and how far away he was now ... and then she knew and accepted that it was most likely that I would never see it again, maybe only in the movies. Amanda sighed and decided that she too had to give her life a direction.
Snow covered the streets of Berlin and across Europe. People came and went, Amanda walked alone through the city. And somewhere in Germany, Schule, the first film by a young Marco Petry, was premiered for the first time.
