So I have a WWII dragon-alt history AU
Lindworms are native to Canada
They are deer/dog noodles, fairly big, fluffy, vegetarian, shy, soft, gentle, golden retriever but social anxiety
Canada during WWII got one (1) Lindworm and first deployed her on D-Day at Juno. (D-Day was not the D-Day y'all know. The Germans have wyverns and the Italians have wolf-dragons (Drakes). Everyone was cooked.) Sweetpea, because that was what the soldiers named her, was scared out of her mind but still protected injured soldiers, both Allied and Axis, from further harm. A well-placed bullet tore through her neck, killing her. She never hurt anyone.
The text at the bottom is a letter that reads (somewhat—this is the better text),
"...And I realized I'd killed the most beautiful creature in the world, simply because of the insignia branded on her side. The poor thing looked scared out of her mind and in agony. I never did, and possibly never will, learn her name. I killed the last angel in a world that God has forgotten. When I die, I wish to go to hell, if justice is even still being weighed. Mortal punishment cannot even begin to give me the means of repenting for my sins."
—Karl Müller, 1945
