ONE; JEALOUSY & CONFLICT

AMELIA CULLEN. Honey colored eyes, alabaster skin, heart-shaped lips, and a perfect sense of style. The most popular Cullen, considering she basked in the glory of being the most gorgeous girl in Forks. Amelia didn't know why she loved the attention so much, but she blamed it on the lack thereof when she was human. Men used to treat her like a prize one would win at the fair but Amelia was far from that absurd idea. She enjoyed having mortal boys drop at her feet and comply to her every need. Rosalie advised she would never find her mate that way, but Amelia was tired of searching. She used to scour the earth to find the man or woman she was supposed to fall in love with, but it just made her suffer. She was exhausted and frankly, watching Alice and Jasper kiss on the living room couch wasn't making her feel any better.

Amelia despised when she wasn't the topic on everyone's minds. She loved making a grand entrance and using her special abilities to get what she wanted. When Bella Swan arrived, Amelia disliked her without catching a glimpse of who she was. Mike Newton became occupied with helping the new girl and he completely forgot about walking Amelia to class.

The blonde decided to voice her opinions at lunch to her family.

"This makes me sick. Who transfers in the middle of March anyway?" She spat, slouching in her seat. Emmett chuckled at her displeasure, which earned him a glare.

Alice sighed. She wished she could see Amelia's soulmate in the future, but everything's turned up blank. Alice didn't want her to keep living a life that revolves around popularity and social status. Amelia was better than that.

"Relax, Lia. I'm sure you still run the school," Emmett grinned. The blonde pulled at the fabric of his white shirt in a frustrated manner before straightening the wrinkles in her marble colored dress.

"Yeah, Mia. Why don't you give Newton a run for his money?" Jasper suggested. Rosalie opened her mouth to stop her, but it was already too late.

Out of everyone in the Cullen family, Rosalie was closest to Amelia. She always said blondes should stick together. Amelia would've taken the surname Hale because of her and Rosalie's similar features, but she didn't approve of it. Carlisle saved her from a lifetime of harming innocent humans and she wanted to honor him by using his last name. Plus, she was originally paired with Edward to become his mate but they weren't compatible. He was more of a brother than a husband. She didn't need to become a Hale to be with him like Jasper had done with Alice.

"Mike," the melodious voice approached behind him. He swiveled his head around and Amelia grabbed his shoulder, causing his mind to go blank. Everything became foggy and his vision was focused on Amelia, drowning out all sounds around him. She batted her eyelashes and stared down at him. "May I have your seat?" He was up in an instant, almost slipping on the white floors. He quickly shoved Eric Yorkie out of his seat and took his place, ignoring Eric's loud curses. Amelia could hear her family's snickers and she smiled victoriously. She took the seat besides Bella and the girl seemed intimidated. Amelia noted how beads of sweat were slowly dripping down the girl's forehead. It indicated fear, which was Amelia's favorite trait on anybody when they approached her. "Nice to meet you. I'm Amelia Cullen."

"Do you want my food?" Mike offered, hearing Eric protest about how it was his, not Mike's. "I have some snacks in my car if you prefer-"

"Thank you, Mike. I'm on a diet and food doesn't sound appetizing at the moment." She silently joked on the fact that her diet was animals, specifically deer, and she heard Edward laugh. "You wouldn't mind walking me to Biology, right?" Mike was going to decline because he promised Bella, but Amelia reached over to graze her fingers over his palm. He was immediately attentive, forgetting the whole existence of Bella Swan for a few seconds.

"Of course! I'll walk you anywhere you want to go," he nodded. "Would you mind if Bella comes with us?" The brown haired girl wasn't showing any signs of being a threat to Amelia, so she reluctantly agreed. Jessica Stanley and Angela Weber were staring at Amelia in envy. Every girl usually did because she had every guy in the school wrapped around her finger, regardless if they were in a relationship or not. Her beauty shined above everyone else's, even Rosalie's.

The bell rang and Mike joined Amelia's side, striding alongside her as Bella trailed behind. She was silently taking notes, being a bit more observant than her other classmates. Whenever Amelia would touch Mike's forearm, his eyes would become glossy and the ocean blue would turn into a light grey. As soon as he fulfilled the action Amelia requested, his orbs would return back into its normal hue. Bella didn't know if it was the change in light or the way Mike's head was tilted. She didn't catch the flicker of the blonde's eyes, which turned into her original, sky blue color for a millisecond before returning into its amber form.

The arrival of Bella was total chaos to Edward. The teacher had turned on the fan and when her smell wafted through his nose, he grabbed onto the table to control himself. Amelia frowned and whispered lowly so only Edward could hear her. "Calm down, Edward. You're making her think she just rolled around in a pile of garbage." He paid no attention to the blonde's words and she took her seat by Mike.

For the whole period, Edward was looking at Bella like he was planning to murder her after class. Amelia was ready to slap him. His facial expression was definitely going to raise questions. She attempted to distract herself by talking to Mike, but his words were going through one ear and coming out the other. Seconds before the bell rang, Edward jumped up and exited. Amelia muttered a small apology to Mike and rushed after her brother.

"Edward," she hissed, catching up to him. "What the hell are you doing?" He didn't respond, entering the front office. He questioned if he could change classes, disbelieving he could sit by Bella any longer. Amelia sighed when Bella entered the room, hearing the woman tell Edward he had to stay in the class.

"Fine," he said harshly. "Just have to endure it." He pushed the door open and left, leaving Bella to ponder on what she had done wrong. Amelia thanked the lady before standing in front of Bella.

"I'm truly sorry about him. He's been really cranky lately," she lied. Bella didn't have time to interrogate the blonde as she chased after her irate brother. Rosalie met her in the parking lot when Edward sped off in his Volvo, fingers clenching around the wheel.

     "We have a problem."

Edward left for a week to compose himself. He stayed with the Denali coven and Amelia couldn't help but tease him when he came back. She was aware of Tanya's fondness with Edward and her vivid attempts to persuade him to pursue a romantic relationship with her. The family warned her not to say anything in fear it would trigger something in Edward, but he just laughed, hugging his sister because he missed her dearly.

"So, we have an agreement. We won't stare at Bella like a piece of meat," Amelia nodded slowly. Edward rolled his eyes at her repetitive comment. She had ditched Mike to walk with her brother to class, which the blonde boy agreed to with the simple touch of Amelia's fingers. "We'll be kind, but subtle enough so she becomes interested. Your hair looks good today, by the way. She'll be impressed."

"Mia, I can handle it," Edward muttered, walking into the biology room. Amelia pointed two fingers at her eyes and moved them to his, signaling she would be watching him. She took her seat next to Mike, who began chatting her ear off. The downpour outside rammed against the windows and released an echo. Amelia appreciated days where she wouldn't have to worry about her skin sparkling in the light because the clouds were hiding the sun from view.

Edward spoke in a calm and collected voice, surprising Bella. Amelia and Mike collaborated together for the mitosis assignment, all whilst she was eavesdropping on her brother and his new partner. Mike had no problem with awkward silence; he had filled every slot to speak with the blonde. It was why Amelia chose him as her partner. Many of the girls at the school could gossip and say she was using the human for her own personal needs, but Amelia enjoyed Mike's company. Her ears perked up when she heard her name being mentioned. "Amelia. She's your sister, right?" Edward was very fond of Bella already, and her tone suggested she was curious of the status of their relationship.

"Yes, Mia is my sister. She doesn't hate you, if that's what you're implying. She adores people fawning over her and when you came around-"

"I stole her thunder," Bella finished, adding two and two together. "Well, I can see why everyone loves her. She's gorgeous."

Edward simpered. "Trust me, she doesn't hesitate to remind us." Amelia turned around and scowled, making her brother grin. She flipped her hair over her shoulder and continued the assignment with ease. She had been through many Biology classes before and this one was no different.

"Anaphase," she confirmed, sliding the microscope over to Mike. He nodded and wrote the answer down, trusting her words. Amelia was the smartest student in the class, along with Edward. Mike didn't even know there was such a thing as being the full package, but the theory was proven true when he met the Cullen family.

"Oh!" He exclaimed, remembering what he had brought her. He reached into his backpack to grab the packaged lunch, which were celery sticks and peanut butter. "I picked this up yesterday because of your diet." He smiled sheepishly, handing it to Amelia. She kissed his cheek as a thank you and he blushed.

"Don't worry, Mike. I'm going to eat all of this."

She threw the sticks of greens in Rosalie's backseat, which earned a glare. Amelia shrugged and decided to tell the origin story of the celery sticks, but she heard the loud screeching of car tires. Thanks to her heightened senses, she was able to see the panic flash across Edward's face.

The black van was skidding towards Bella, who was next to her car, reading a book. Rosalie cautioned Edward not to act, but he didn't bother to listen. His feet flashed across the parking lot, using one hand to grab Bella and the other to stop the moving van. Amelia's eyes widened at the scene that just occurred, having the same mindset as her siblings. If Bella wasn't asking questions before, there would be no hesitation now.

"Go." Amelia grasped Jasper's forearm. Fury filled his face, thinking about the outcomes they were going to have to deal with. "Jazz," she spoke clearly, prodding him to leave.

Amelia rode with Rosalie in her Mercedes while Alice and Jasper entered Emmett's Jeep. Silence overtook the car on the way to the hospital. Amelia could practically feel the rage flowing from Rosalie's body. Amelia was more calm about the situation, even if they risked the exposure to their secret. She had gotten a good read on Bella so far, and she was halfway sure the girl wouldn't say anything.

Rosalie had prepared her speech by the time they spotted Edward. Reading their thoughts, he got a clear perspective as to who was on his side. "I can make her forget," Amelia spoke first. "One touch and it'll all be over."

"Her father won't. The students will remember," Rosalie denied. She shook her head in aggravation. "What do you think you were doing?" They heard footsteps approach and Carlisle joined the conversation, filling them in on his checkup with Bella.

"What was I supposed to do? Let her die?" Edward spoke quietly, contrasting Rosalie's rising tone.

"This isn't just about you. It's about all of us," she hissed. Amelia grabbed Edward's sleeve and they saw Bella around the corner, listening in on their conversation. Amelia pursed her lips, allowing Bella and Edward to talk when she requested. Rosalie muttered a few curse words that Amelia wouldn't repeat, storming off.

"I'm guessing we're having a heated family discussion tonight," Amelia raised her eyebrows. Carlisle couldn't help but smile, kissing her forehead. He said a quick goodbye before going back to work. She waited for Edward, who wasn't being very straightforward with Bella. He was obviously dodging the subject. She was delighted to hear that Bella promised she wouldn't say anything, and Amelia was going to make sure she stayed true to her word. One slip could expose everything and she wasn't eager to have the Volturi knocking on their door.

She had a bad experience with them after their many tries to recruit her. Amelia's powers would make a great contribution and Aro sought after her for years. Not to mention her enhanced beauty would be a thrilling factor.

"I'm sorry," Edward apologized when he walked beside her. "I know this puts you in a difficult position as well as everyone else. Rosalie's going to be upset when she finds out you're on my side."

"It's alright, Masen. We'll figure something out." He nudged her playfully.

     "Let's head home, Harlowe."
