広報担当者 - Spokesperson

"Extra! Extra!" Matsuda announced and barged into the investigation room holding several newspapers and a styrofoam cup, "There's a new development in the Kira case! He's chosen a new spokesperson. Take a look." He turned on the TV and flipped through the channels until he got to the one he wanted.

"Good evening. This is Kiyomi Takada from NHN News Channel Six."

Temari bit her lip and studied the woman closely. She certainly seemed much more even tempered and mannerly than Demegawa. Kira must have decided that he should go with a more formal representative. Her short straight black hair complemented the light blue eyes that shone upon her face. The girl looked over at Light. He seemed a little surprised.

Matsuda whistled, "Kira's got good taste. Takki is so pretty."

"Everyone, I've got an idea." Light stood up, "I think we should make use of Kiyomi Takada. To be honest, I know her. Back in university we actually dated for a little while."

Temari nodded. No wonder Light was surprised when Matsuda first turned on the news. She looked back at the screen. Kiyomi did look like the kind of girl that he would date. Intelligent, aesthetically appealing, slightly reserved, and most importantly, completely unlike Misa. All were qualities that Light would definitely look for in a woman.

"If she's working as Kira's spokesperson, she must be receiving orders from him." Light continued, "If she's in contact with him, our best bet would be to use that connection to get to Kira through her."

Matsuda piped up, "But Takki is probably doing it because Kira is threatening her. She might be too scared to help us out."

"No, I don't think that's it." Temari shook her head and picked up one of the newspapers Matsuda had strewn on the table, "It says right here in this article that Kiyomi supports Kira. Anyway, I have an idea."

The brown haired man nodded, "Go on."

"Light can take Saya and I to the news station. If he dated Kiyomi at some point and they're on good terms now, he could ask her to show us around or something like that." Temari continued, "She'll probably be willing to do that as long as we have Saya with us. We all know that it's next to impossible to say no to her."

"That's true." Matsuda agreed, "Even I can't resist her."

Ide shook his head, "That's not an achievement, Matsuda. You're the biggest pushover I know."

"It's a good idea though." Light said and placed his fingers to his chin, "I'll just tell Takada that Temari and Saya are the daughters of a coworker and that they have a strong interest in Kira. Having the kids look around will help us start conversation and such."

--------------------------------------------------------------

"Are we there yet?" Saya asked and swung her feet enthusiastically, the heels of her shoes hitting the wall behind her seat on the train.

Light smiled and ruffled the little girl's hair with his free hand, the other holding on to a stability ring suspended from the vehicle's ceiling, "Not yet. You're going to have to wait a few more minutes." He bent down and whispered in her ear, "Do you want me to tell you a secret?"

"Uh-huh!" Saya eagerly nodded.

"Takada used to be my girlfriend."

Saya's eyes went wide, "Whoa! That's awesome! Why did you guys break up? Are you going to get back together?" Her legs swung faster with excitement, accidentally striking the formal looking businessman beside her.

"I'm so sorry, sir." Temari apologized to the now annoyed man, "Saya, what have a told you about swinging your legs? You always end up hitting people."

The little girl stuck out her tongue at her older sister, "You're not the boss of me!"

"Hey!" Temari retorted in surprise, "Since when did you get so sassy?"

The train made a sudden stop, lurching Saya into the irritable man to her left. He shot her a dirty look and exited the train the second the doors opened.

"I don't think he liked me very much." Saya supposed and stood up from her seat, looking to Light and Temari, "Where do we go from here?"

"I'll show you." Light said and reached for the girl's hand, which she quickly yanked away.

"I'm a big girl." Saya informed him, "I can walk on my own."

Light chuckled, "Alright, if you insist."

The siblings followed Light down the street, the younger of the two skipping and singing happy tunes. Temari smiled. It was nice to see that after all this time her little sister hadn't changed. She still believed in the magic and goodness of the world. The last thing Temari wanted was to have Saya's innocence stolen from her.

"We're here." Light said and stopped in front of the glass doors to the news station, "Let me do the talking, okay?"

The small group opened the doors and went into the building. A small bell rang in Temari's mind as she saw the receptionist. She had long blonde hair and hazel eyes. Temari remembered seeing her through Matt's computer screen back in LA. Halle. Her name is Halle. Sure enough, the nameplate on her desk confirmed so. Halle. Halle Lidner.

"May I help you?" She tersely asked them.

"We're here to see Kiyomi Takada." Light explained, "I'm Light Yagami."

Halle turned to the computer in front of her, "I don't see your name on the appointment list."

"Just tell her that Light Yagami is here to see her." The boy said hurriedly, "I knew Takada in college. We were, uh, very close friends."

Saya stood on her tiptoes and peeked over the top the marble countertop, "They were dating." She whispered loudly.

A slight smile appeared on the blonde woman's face, "I see. I'll give her office a call and tell her that Light Yagami wants to see her." Halle pressed a button to her right, "Miss Takada?"

"Yes?" A familiar womanly voice answered, "What is Lidner?"

"A man named Light Yagami and two young guests of his are waiting in the lobby for you."

The line went silent for a minute

"Tell Mr. Yagami that I will be down to see him in ten minutes."

Saya squealed, "Yay! I'm gonna see Kiyomi Takada! I can't wait to hug her!"

"Calm it down with the hugs." Temari said to her sister, "We want Light and her to, uh.....reconnect.  You don't want to ruin the romance, right?"

So after a seemingly endless ten minutes, complete with the incessant questions of a certain nine year old, the woman they were all waiting for entered the room. Temari grabbed Saya's hand and sternly whispered for her to stay still. She wanted to see how the former lovers would greet eachother after all this time.

"Kiyomi." Light stood up, "It's been a long time."

The slightly stunned woman nodded, "It has. Some might say too long."

Temari couldn't help but feel butterflies in her own stomach. Light and Kiyomi must have really enjoyed eachother. Seeing them made her miss her own connection. She knew that it was her fault for cutting off Shikamaru but that just made her crave him more. The memory of the warmth of his hand on that cold Christmas Eve still made its way onto her fingers sometimes. It was nice to receive romantic affection. Temari had just wished she had truly cherished it while it was still there.

"Hi!!"

In the midst of her nostalgia the older girl had let go of her little sister's hand. Saya had taken this opportunity to pounce on the newswoman with a fierce hug, abruptly interrupting the reunion.

"Saya!" Temari attempted to dislodge the child, "I told you to chill!"

Kiyomi laughed, "No, it's okay. I love meeting my fans. What did you say her name was?"

"Sayako." Light answered, "She's the daughter of a coworker of mine. Her half-sister is the girl next to me, Temari."

The little girl let go of Kiyomi, grinning widely, "You can call me Saya! I'm nine years old!"

"Saya." The woman said sweetly and bent down to Saya's eye level, "What a pretty name for a pretty girl. So Saya, why did Light bring you and your sister here today?"

"To see you of course!" Saya giggled, "Big Brother Light said that you and him used to date. Is that true?"

Kiyomi nodded, "It is."

"Was Big Brother Light a nice boyfriend? Did he treat you good?"

"Of course I did." Light said, "Why would I not treat my girlfriend the best I can?"

"He was a very good boyfriend." The woman agreed, "We had the best conversations. Sometimes I miss talking to him."

Saya took Light and Kiyomi's hands and pulled them closer to eachother, "You should date again! That way you can talk to eachother all the time."

Kiyomi shook her head, "I'm afraid that's not possible. Light is currently dating Misa Amane."

"Oh, about that," Light lowered his voice, "I'm only with Misa for the sake of the Kira investigation. She just isn't quite intelligent enough to be my partner."

Temari could barely hold in a snicker. He finally said it. The truth was finally out there.

"I see." Kiyomi smiled and raised an eyebrow, "In that case, I think we should do a little catching up later. Perhaps after the nine o clock news?"

"Yay! Love!" Saya cheered.

This time Temari laughed. Her little sister could really be adorable sometimes.

"Your name is Temari, right?" Kiyomi turned her attention to the taller girl standing a little ways away.

Temari nodded, "That's me."

"My, you're tall. How old are you."

"Sixteen." The brown haired girl answered.

"Temari got accepted to To-Oh University just like you and I." Light piped in, "She's very intelligent."

Kiyomi's eyes lit up, "Really? You're so young too. What's your major?"

"Uh, criminology." Temari quickly said and desperately hoped that it was a real major. Due to the progression of the case, her college education had been put on hold. She had never even stepped foot in class.

The woman nodded, "That sounds interesting. I hope you do well."

----------------------------------------------------------------

"Alright guys, video and audio are all set up. No blind spots." Matsuda announced and looked at the laptop beside him, "The nine o clock news is just ending."

"Got it. I'll be going back to headquarters." Aizawa responded and nodded to Light, who straightened his tie.

"Isn't this just perfect, Temari?" Matsuda sighed dreamily and spun around in his chair, "Two former lovers reuniting in a cozy hotel room, the light of the city illuminating their lovestruck faces, the tenderness of their lips as they come in for a long desired kiss...."

Temari shook her head, "Uncle Matsu have you been reading my shojo manga again?"

"....No."

The door to the hotel room opened and a slender woman stood at the entrance. Matsuda grinned and focused his eyes intensely on the screen.

"Now that we're alone I can finally say it: I missed you, Takada."

Matsuda's smile grew wider than ever thought possible, "That's our boy!"

"I'm sorry." Light apologized quickly, "Please sit down."

The two sat down at a small table and said nothing. They looked at eachother in a different way than before. Without a nosy nine year old, Kiyomi and Light finally had the chance to communicate on their own. Temari couldn't help but smile. This really did look like the beginnings of a rekindled love. Maybe Matsuda's fantasies weren't so far off the mark.

"What the hell is Light doing?" Ide scoffed, "He isn't talking about the case at all!"

Matsuda shook his head condescendingly, "C'mon. Don't tell me you've never been in love before, Ide."

"How's it going?" Aizawa asked as he came in the door.

"The mood is perfect." The dark haired daydreamer replied.

Aizawa groaned and sat down, "That's not what I meant."

---------------------------------------------------------

Meanwhile in the hotel room, Kiyomi's phone buzzed inside her purse. She swiftly pulled it out and looked at the caller I.D.

"Kira." She whispered in shock.

"You should answer it." Light said, pretending that he didn't hear her previous words.

Kiyomi nodded and pressed the green TALK button, "Hello....No, I'm with a friend right now....We are alone....He wanted to meet with me all of a sudden." The woman nodded dryly in surprise and held the phone out to Light, "He said he would like to speak with you."

Light's eyes shined, Mikami, I was right to choose you....

"Who am I speaking to?" A voice on the other end of the phone questioned Light.

"Five pages on November 26th." Light replied, knowing that the receiver of his message would understand perfectly.

"You're God!"

"Yes."

"You're not free to speak at the moment!"

"Yes."

"You're being watched!"

"Yes, but how can I know that you're the real Kira?"

"Turn to Sakura TV!"

Kiyomi took the remote and turned the TV on and clicked it to the appropriate channel. Kira's Kingdom had gained new robed Demegawa-like worshippers, only to have every single one struck down just as before.

Light took a notepad and scribbled a message saying that he was removing the audio and video devices, barely able to hide the wide smile spreading across his face. Everything was going according to plan. Mikami turned out to be even better and more useful than he expected.

"I don't understand. What's going on?" Kiyomi asked, shooting a concerned glance at the spyware equipment piled on the coffee table in front of her.

"Finally. I can now talk without constraints." Light loosened his tie and turned to face the confused woman before him, "Kiyomi, I am the real Kira."
