Rouge was almost out of the wood but stopped. "Could you four please tell me why you were spying on me and Shadow?" Rouge said a bit angry. "What? She heard us?" Sonic said. "Fine, how have you noticed us?" Amy asked as she and the others came out of bushes. "Well I haven't heard you until someone of you, whit that I mean the girls, yelled with their boyfriends." Rouge said and grinned at her best friends. "Sorry, but we wanted to know who Shadow looks like and where you two were going." Blaze said apologizing. "And the girls forced us to come with them." Silver added. "We did this because we were scared of robbers!" Amy said. "Yeah the girls just wanted a hero, who's me, to protect them from danger." Sonic said while pointing at himself and Amy looked dreamily at her hero. "Hey I would also protect the girls." Silver said annoyed. "You would be the hero who rescues me." Blaze said and hugged Silver and Rouge just rolled her eyes. "What ever, I have to go home before my parents get all worried about me. See you." Rouge said and run off.

In the castle of the Dark Kingdom

Shadow sat on the table in the dinning room with his parents and was daydreaming of Rouge again. "Shadow why aren't you eating?" Shadows mom asked but didn't get an answer. "Shadow your mother asked you a question!" his father said but again get no answer. "Shadow!" his father yelled and got finally Shadow's attention. "W-what was the question again?" Shadow asked. "Why aren't you eating?" Shadow's mother repeated. "Uh, I was just thinking about something." Shadow replied and started eating before his parents would ask another question. "Lately you are daydreaming quite often Shadow. Is everything alright?" his father asked. "Don't worry everything's fine. Can I go to my room now, I'm finished with eating." Shadow said and looked at his parents. "Sure." his mother replied and Shadow walked out of the dinning room. 

Shadow walked into his room and put his weapons away. Then he walked to his open window and looked at the full moon. "Why can't I stop thinking about her?" Shadow thought and after two minutes he closed his window. "I think I should go to sleep." Shadow said and five minutes later he already fall asleep and was dreaming about Rouge. 

Two hours later

Shadow woke up as he heard screaming from outside. He stood up and opened his window to see what was going on but the view shocked him. The whole village was on fire and their was a battle in front of the castles gate. "I have to help." Shadow said while he put his clothes on and took his weapons and ran out of his room. 

"Mom, dad, what's going on?" Shadow asked as he ran into the throne room. "Shadow, we have to flee." his mother said and wanted to ran away with her son but Shadow stopped. "I'll fight with you." Shadow said to his father. "No, we are outnumbered, I buy time for you and your mother." Shadow's father said while the enemy was trying to break the door. "But ..." "No buts, take your mother and flee." his father commanded and Shadow saw that he was serious. "Fine." Shadow said sad and at this moment the enemy broke the door and ran into the throne room. Shadow's father pulled his sword and began to fight as Shadow and his mom closed the door and ran to Shadow's room but it wouldn't need long to find them. "Come on Shadow think of something." Shadow thought and looked around his room until he spotted a rope. "I have a plan." Shadow said aloud while his mother was crying. Shadow tied the rope to one of his arrows and opened his window. Then Shadow shot the arrow to a tree and tied the other end of it, which Shadow was holing in his hand, on a pillar. A second after Shadow finished his work his door burst open and a knight of the enemy stabbed his mother. 

"Mom!" Shadow said shocked and pulled his sword as three more knights came through the broken door. "Give up and die like your mother did, you haven't a chance against us." one of the knights said and looked at Shadow. Shadow angrily jumped off of his window and killed the five knights easily, then he looked at his dying mother. "Shadow flee and hide, they won't give up until they killed all of the royal family." his mother said. "No, I won't leave you." Shadow said. "I don't ask you, I command you to flee now. Please, more knights are coming." Shadow's mom said before she died and Shadow grabbed a piece of cloth to slide down the rope. He looked one last time at his dead mother and said "I only do this for you." Shadow stood on his window and was about to slide down the rope as more knights came into the room. "He tries to flee!" one shouted and Shadow slide down the rope. As Shadow turned around and cut the rope he was suddenly hit by an arrow and Shadow flinched and saw blood coming out of his wound. Before Shadow got hit by another arrow he hid behind a tree and pulled the arrow out of his left shoulder. "I have to find Rouge." Shadow thought and ran into the forest. 

Back inside the castle

The knight who shot Shadow went back into the throne room with Shadow's mother on his shoulder. In the throne room was Mephiles who was the leader and captured the king of the Dark Kingdom. "Oww, my dear brother looks who died before she could flee." Mephiles teased and turned the head of the king to the dead queen. (A/N Mephiles and Shadow's father are brothers) "No, you bastard, I'll kill you." Shadow's dad screamed as he saw his lifeless wife. "Where's their son, did you kill him?" Mephiles asked. "No he was able to flee but was hit by an arrow." the knight replied as he bowed to his leader. "We'll find him and then we'll kill him." Mephiles said and turned back to his prisoner. "If you dare to kill him then I'll ..." Shadow's dad got interrupted by Mephiles. "You will do nothing because you are already dead before I kill your beloved son." Mephiles said and stabbed Shadows father. "This kingdom is finally mine and nobody will stand in my way." Mephiles said as he pulled the knife out of his brother. "Shadow will kill you someday, I'm sure of it." Shadow's dad said before he too died. "I don't think so." Mephiles replied and began to laugh.
