Chapter seventy three
73
Ara walked down to where she had instructed Prince Ire to wait for her. She had finished her paper for the day, walking down the quiet street where Prince Ire was waiting for her. They were attending the church programme together just like they planned. She had insisted they leave together after the instructions Moyin gave her. He wanted to see Prince Ire as well, but he doesn't want it to be so visible. He failed to tell Ara the full details, but he explained to her the major reason he rejected a ride from Prince Ire that day was because, there were things needed to be sort out before they can be seen together. That wasn't really clear to Ara, but she understood it could be the same reason Prince Ire wanted to see him for. Slowly, as Ara walked beside the road, she kept on remembering everything Moyin told her in the morning so as not to forget. She was tired, but the expression on her face made it look like she was mad at something. Mad at her exam questions.
Expecting to see any of Prince Ire's cars, but she didn't. Ara saw the same black Venza instead. This time around, it looked even more clean, shinning with the help of the sun above it. The moment Prince Ire saw her, he unlocked the car door for her and immediately she came in, resting her back gently on the seat.
His cologne made Ara shot her eyes up at him. The two staring at each other with love and undying passion. But she discovered there was something different about his dressing, wondering if he was going to the church or somewhere else. His dressing was just like his brother, Prince Adedamola. Ara had seen the two brothers and could tell some differences in their dressing. Prince Ire slowly held her hand and broke the silence. "How was your paper?" He kissed her on the cheek. "Sure another A1 has been added to your result."
Ara who looked a bit tired ended up smiling. "Are you whinning me? With what I wrote on that answer booklet."
Prince Ire who had also been busy with a motivational book before Ara came in finally got to smile as well. He kissed the back of her hand. "Common babe, I trust you."
Ara shook her head at prince Ire. "Wahala for who no get brain to trust o." She chuckled and separated her hand from Prince Ire. "As per what I did there, my C is sure. I'm actually confessing it by faith."
Prince Ire gave up trying to say anything. His smile widened and he decided to sit well. Ara joked too much. He knew that already. As he was about starting the car, Ara decided to ask what she had in mind since she took her seat inside the car. "Babe, you didn't come with your car today as well? Is everything alright?" She asked, snatching her seat belt to her body. She couldn't help asking, knowing how much Prince Ire loved his cars. Prince Ire had come with the same venza he brought yesterday, and she could tell if not for any reason, he loved going out in his cars.
"Actually, I stopped going out with my cars for now. Yesterday, I had to make everyone believe that something was wrong with them because Dad suspected something. He brought a skilled mechanic who is as well knowledgeable with the use of computer. He realised a tracking device was attached to all my cars. That alone alert them my whereabouts every time I'm out of the palace."
Ara looked speechless. "The struggle is real."
That made Prince Ire chuckled. He wasn't expecting such reply, but he loved the fact that she didn't show him any sign of pity but instead made him feel relaxed and not add to his worry. He understood what she meant. He then continued. "I decided to dress like Damola while he dressed like me today. He is to go to the the club I went to eight years ago. This will alert them that I know something. Or why would I go back to the same place I never wanted to be again? We didn't remove the device. So, for now, I haven't gotten a call from the security Dad hired after he told me I'm not being followed."
"What about your brother, is he safe?"
"He's being followed like we expected, but he's not alone."
Aramade smiled, holding Prince Ire's hand this time. "I'm glad you didn't run from your past. It's gonna end soon."
"Sure." He started the car.
They had spent little time talking which was necessary. Where they were going wasn't that far so they didn't encounter a long traffic. "I need to charge my phone please," Ara said, using the opportunity to reach out for the power bank before her. The moment she picked the power bank, a white exercise note with everything inside it fell on her laps.
"I can't believe Damola still has all these pictures. Just put them somewhere, I will arrange it later." Prince Ire said and turned his eyes back on the road.
Ara bent down to pick them one by one since they weren't many. She was not aware that the power bank was the one holding the pictures where it was. The last picture she picked look familiar to her. She held it up at Prince Ire. "Who is this guy beside you?"
"That's big bro back then." Prince Ire said. "Senator's first son. Most times, he paid for all the nonsense we bought back then because we met almost all the time at the same club. I haven't seen him since I came back though. I hope he's a change man since I heard he's now a married man."
Immediately, Ara's eyes turned red. Her heart beat with speed. Her eyes doubled for confirmation and still, she was right. She knew who was in that picture. She had seen him before. He was the same man she saw that day. That very night. She instantly cried out. "This is the man that killed my sister."
Prince Ire almost lost the steering wheel. Upon hearing that, his hands shook at the confession and he almost halted on the road, but he was fast enough to recover quickly. He couldn't believe his ears. He slowed down, staring at Aramade, completely lost. "What did you just say?" He didn't believe her yet. He thought she was speaking nonsense. "Babe, I could remember vividly at Dgram's hotel when you told me your sister died of a serious illness."
"Yes," Aramade said. "Were you expecting me to tell you I know who killed her being my first time of talking to you? The last person my sister was with was this man. This man brought her home that day, days before she was rushed to the hospital and died. I saw him clearly. And I was the only one who saw him that night. He must have thought no one saw him. He was the married man my sister got involved with." Aramade pointed to the same guy in the picture she was holding. She seemed really angry and couldn't hide her hatred for the man that she was explaining everything she hid from Prince Ire the last time they talked about her sister.
"I wish she wasn't that stupid. I mean..." Ara said referring to her sister. "I realised he had been my sister's boyfriend even before he got married. He didn't marry Ewa because his parents didn't agree to their relationship. They went their separate ways until he came back and sis got involved with him again. Why would she get involve with the same man who chose someone else over her? Ire, this man killed Ewa. I don't know what he did to her, but he did something to her. Now it's making sense!" Ara snapped her fingers rolling her eyes. "If this same man was present that day a lady died inside a pool, you have another suspect." Ara said not convinced. "In my sister's diary which I have with me, I read that she confronted him about something which happened many years ago. Ewa was stupid to threaten a devil by revealing she knew a secret. Would he keep her safe?" Ara said not convinced. "Was he present that day?"
This time Prince Ire halted, he was already at the gate of the church. He slowly drove in and parked where he was directed to. He couldn't believe his ears. If he could remember what happened eight years ago. Yes, they met. He was present. That night, he was in a hurry to leave. He could remember he saw a blood stain on him but he told him it was a slight injury. Now that he was a doctor, he could say his breathing was too fast that very day. His fingers were shaking. He wasn't in his right state of mind. He left the moment they got there which was never how it had been. The days before that very day, he would stay behind with them. How come he never noticed something was wrong? How come he never noticed he didn't see the face of the lady who died inside the pool until now? All he saw was the same clothes the same lady he forced himself on was putting on. Both light skinned. He could remember not checking the face because exactly one in the morning which was always the usual time for him and his friends to leave, the death of the lady was found and announced, but he had to be rescued because fingers kept pointing at him that she was with him before her death. Now it was becoming clear to him.
"Hey!" Aramade interrupted. "If he was the real murderer that very night, think of it this way. His father had no other choice than to rescue his son. You were the only son of an important figure. Your father is a king known by important people. Your two other friends could have been taken as suspects and accused, but your Dad would eventually investigate to clear your name. But... let's think of it this way. If one of your friends could turn this whole crime on you and make it very glaring you are the killer. What is the first thing your Dad would have done?"
"Save me."
"Which he did." Ara looked up at him. "He would also try not to investigate and would be in a haste to close the case because the whole crime points at you. Which he also did. Senator came in, trying to rescue you and who could have suspected him or his son? Which he thought about. His daughter marrying you would have been a perfect way to kill you without being suspected. As long as you are still alive, your Dad would still try and investigate the case to know if you truly were involved in the death of that poor girl. Remember he couldn't do anything then just to see you are safe. Later, he did. They knew. You came back to Nigeria. You refused to marry his daughter. Naturally you would be threatened. Including the person you are in a relationship with. They realise you are stubborn, and the only way to keep their secret is by ending your life whichever way they can. Everyone who knew about this secret is dead. They want to bury it and take it to their grave."
Prince Ire stared at Aramade shocked by all she said. He was amazed by how she thought about everything in such limited time which seemed to be true. His friend whom Prince Ire was no longer convinced was used to set him up was dead because he knew too much already.
"We have to get down." Ara said to him. "If they realise your brother is the one they followed and not you, babe we just alert the enemies, and he might not be safe. We need to collect whatever Moyin plans on giving you right now." Ara immediately unlocked her door and beside her, Prince Ire did too.
The moment they got out of the car, a familiar voice called not too far from them. Just beside their car. "Ire!"
They looked back and the only person Ara recognised was Princess Adebisi. But somehow, the face next to Princess Adebisi looked familiar to her. Ara was scared to death that she held Prince Ire so tight. Her heart was beating very fast. She wondered why the princess was there too. Ara stared at the unknown lady again."I think have seen that face before."
"That's the Senator's daughter."
Ara gasped. "They found us."
"Stay calm, we are not alone." Prince Ire assured her. Not sure how he did it, but Prince Ire was composed and his smile was cool like every other day. As the two ladies walked closer to them, Ara remembered her face. "Yes, I said it. I saw her at Dgram's hotel. We mistakenly bump into each other. She insulted me actually."
"You still call that a mistake."
"Babe now I get it. She did it intentionally."
"What a coincidence!" The lady smiled at them, acting all surprised. Everyone would have thought she was really excited to see them.
Prince Ire maintained his cool position. His right hand inside his pocket. Staring eye ball to eye ball at her. He gave her a one sided smile. "I'm guessing you heard about the programme too?"
She gave him a very light smile. "Exactly!"
