One Shot 8.1: The Art of Letting Go
"Are you really sure this is what you wanted?" Lesley asked Gusion for the last time.
Her vision was currently blurry because tears were pooling in her eyes but she kept on holding them.
Gusion nodded. "I'm sorry Les. I love you, but I need to do this." He looked up, trying to stop his tears. "I don't want you to be trapped with our relationship while I am away. There's a very little assurance that it will work out."
Lesley couldn't help it anymore, her tears fell down, non-stop.
The same with Gusion as he hugged her tightly, "I want you to expand your world. We were both jailed in our own world for a long time, forgetting other people around us."
Lesley couldn't utter any word, she just kept on crying, clinging to Gusion, never wanting him to let go.
Gusion sobbed, "Just please, take care of yourself okay? Take care of your little brother, even he always annoys me, tell him I care for him. Take care of your adoptive parents, spend time with your family as long as you can. Make new friends and please be safe, always. I will not be able to save you if you are in danger."
"Gusion... " Lesley continued to sob. It was breaking her heart, little by little.
Gusion cupped her face and wiped her tears. She did the same to him.
He leaned his forehead on hers, "I will always love you. If fate will bring us again together, I am not letting you go again. Never again. Remember that Les."
"Lesley!"
Lesley was pulled from her thoughts when someone snapped in front of her.
"Are you okay? You were spacing out." Fanny asked her.
"I'm fine. I just remembered something." Lesley smiled a little.
Fanny rolled her eyes. "You were thinking about him again, weren't you?"
She sighed, "I'm sorry. I can't help it. I'm just wondering how is he now. It's been five years since I last saw him."
"He's probably dead by now–"
"Fanny!" Lesley glared at the pink short-haired girl.
Fanny laughed, raising both of her hands. "Just kidding. But we'll never know. Maybe he is already married by this time."
Lesley gasped, as she felt a sharp pain on her chest.
Fanny noticed her reaction. "You still love him, don't you?"
Lesley didn't answer.
Fanny sighed. "You know, you told me that you loved each other so dearly and yet you decided to break up. Long distance relationship is truly a risky one but if you really love each other then, you could have worked it out."
Lesley stirred her coffee and sighed as well. "Sometimes, there are circumstances that love isn't enough." She put her chin on her hand. "We both jailed ourselves in our own world that we forgot the people around us. It's just... the two of us. And it was a bad thing. We forgot to expand our world. We loved each other so much that it made us forget our loved ones."
Fanny remained silent, so Lesley continued.
"We both realized that and we came into a mutual decision: letting go. We both know it will help us grow and look at me now. I am successful in my own field, spending time with my family as what he told me before he went to London."
"You did what he told you, okay. You expanded your world, you have many friends now, even suitors though you're not entertaining them. But the question here is: Are you happy?" Fanny asked.
Lesley was taken aback by Fanny's question.
Was she really happy?
She didn't know the answer.
=====
Lesley was scrolling down her phone, killing some time.
Bored and feeling sleepy, Lesley decided to exit the app and just sleep.
But then, just when she was about to exit the app, one post caught her attention.
Gusion's post.
Lesley felt she died because of too much pain when she saw the post.
It was a picture of Gusion with a girl with a caption, "I finally found you."
Lesley laughed sarcastically as tears were now falling down to her face.
"I should have closed this fucking app earlier." She scolded herself as she wiped her tears but it seemed there was no ending to them.
"Stop crying Les. You already knew there was a big possibility that he'll find someone else."
And he did.
Lesley continued to sob. The pain was so suffocating, it was slowly killing her.
"You shouldn't have said the last one you told me before we parted ways Gusion."
Because admit it or not, she was still holding on to what he said.
But now, she had to let go.
Gusion already learned the art of letting go and finding the one he truly loves.
Lesley sighed, tears were still flowing from her eyes.
=====
Lesley wanted to clear her mind so she went out for a walk.
She didn't have a specific destination. She just let her feet to walk somewhere as her mind was floating somewhere.
Then Lesley realized that her feet brought her to a familiar place.
It was where she and Gusion always go whenever they wanted to relax.
Lesley felt a pain in her chest when she remembered Gusion.
She sighed and just sat on a bench, appreciating the scenery in front of her.
The place brought her mixed feelings, mainly because she shared a lot of memories with Gusion here.
She didn't know how long she sat there and stared blankly at nowhere when she decided to get up to leave the place.
And she saw a familiar face when she turned.
She felt her heart beat faster when she saw him.
He was also frozen in his tracks when he saw her, but a smile formed slowly on his lips.
"Lesley!" He called her, smiling.
"G-Gusion."
"Hey, it's been a long time. It is so nice to see you here." Gusion said as he went in front of her and hugged her suddenly.
"Y-yeah, nice to see to you."
Lesley's mind couldn't function well. She was just crying because of this man a while ago and now he showed up in front of her.
Gusion pulled away from the hug and looked at her. "I have many stories to tell you, you know. I can't wait to share it with you."
"R-really?"
I hope it's not how you met your newfound love.
"Yes!" Gusion cupped her face which startled her. "I really, really miss y–"
"Gusion!"
Gusion was cut by someone who called him.
"Hey!" The newcomer was panting, maybe because of running. "Why did you leave me behind? You're so mean!"
Gusion laughed and ruffled the newcomer’s hair. "You're just slow."
Lesley looked at the newcomer.
And the pain she was feeling doubled when she realized who it was.
The girl that was with Gusion on the picture she saw.
The girl looked at Lesley before asking Gusion. "Who is she Gusion?"
"Oh, let me introduce you to Lesley. Lesley, this is Angela. Angela, this is Lesley."
The girl named Angela smiled at her and offered her hand for a shake hands. "Hi Lesley! Nice to meet you."
Lesley absent-mindedly reached for her hand. "Y-yeah, likewise."
"Hey Lesley, why don't you come with us? I want to share you my stories now." Gusion excitedly asked her.
Lesley's vision was now blurred because tears were starting to pool in her eyes. "N-no, maybe some other time. I'm sorry. I need to go."
Lesley immediately turned her back from the two and ran as fast as she could.
Running away to save herself from looking pathetic.
Lesley didn't know that her eyes could still produce too much tears after she cried non-stop days ago.
She just kept on running, not knowing where to go.
The pain was killing her, like someone was gripping her heart so hard.
Please, someone help me erase this pain. Please teach me the art of letting go.
