"Lesley!"
Lesley stopped on her tracks to look on who called her. It was her friend, Layla.
"Hey Layla, good morning." Lesley greeted her friend.
"Yeah, good morning!" Layla greeted her back energetically. "Did you already listen to Gusion's new release song? The song was so sweet!"
Lesley's eyes grew wide. "Really? He released a new song? I was busy with our assignments last night. I didn't have the time to check the song."
"You have to listen to it! I read that it was dedi–"
Layla was cut off by the bell, signalling that the class would start any minute from now.
"We better hurry! We'll be late for our class!" Layla said while dragging Lesley along with her.
Lesley just let her be.
=====
"Okay, so what's the title of that song?" Lesley asked herself while browsing the internet to search for the new song of Gusion.
"This is it maybe." Lesley said as she clicked on the link.
Lesley frowned when she read the title of the song.
Can't Keep on Loving You? But Layla said it was a sweet song.
Lesley just shrugged and decided to listen to it first. Maybe the lyrics and message of the song was contrary to the title.
She was about to tap the play button when her phone displayed an incoming call.
She smiled when she saw who was calling and tapped the answer button immediately.
"Hi Les. How are you doing?" The caller asked immediately the moment she answered the call.
"I'm good! Just a bit busy on school works though. How about you? Are you getting enough rest? You have a busy schedule." Lesley said worriedly.
The caller chuckled, "Are you worried? Don't worry Les. I'm in a good shape. It's you I'm worried about. You're not skipping meals while studying, are you?"
Lesley bit her lips, feeling guilty. "I'm not skipping meals, just taking them... late?" She laughed awkwardly, preparing for the scolding she would get.
"Lesley! You know how bad it is to eat meals late! How many times do I have to tell you that? Studying is good, but it is bad if you forgot to take care of yourself! You might get an ulcer, do you know that?"
Lesley fidgetted on her nails, feeling sorry. "I'm sorry. It won't happen again. Please don't be mad."
The caller sighed, "I'm not mad. I'm just worried okay? I'm sorry for raising my voice. I just don't want my best friend to be sick."
Lesley smiled, "Oh, so my best friend is being sweet huh?" She giggled.
Gusion groaned frustratedly, "Oh shut up, stop teasing me Les."
"Do you miss me? You miss me?" Lesley laughed as she continued to tease her best friend.
"Be thankful I am not there you little tease. I might have already kissed you to shut you up."
Lesley gasped at her best friend's remarks. She laughed nervously, "I'll just pretend I didn't hear what you said."
The other line went silent. Lesley looked at her phone to see if the call was ended but it was still connected.
"Gus, you still there?" She asked.
"Yeah." She heard him sighed, sounded tired.
"You sound tired, you should take a rest."
"I'm fine. By the way, have you already listened to my new song?"
"I was about to, but you called me."
She heard him chuckle, "I'm sorry. Do you want to hear it live though?"
"Really? You'll sing it for me now?" Lesley asked eagerly.
"Why, yes of course. Anything for you."
Lesley felt her heart fluttered when Gusion said those words.
She heard him cleared his throat and started to sing the first line.
"How do I get close when she looks like–
(Gusion, the car is here, let's go.)"
"Is that your manager Gus?" Lesley asked because someone called him in the background.
Gusion sighed, "Yes. I'm sorry Les, we need to go. I'll sing it to you later, okay?"
Lesley was disappointed because their talk was cut short but she couldn't do anything about that. After all, her best friend was a famous singer.
"It's okay Gusion. Take care okay? I'll wait for your call."
"Thank you Les. Make sure to eat your meals on time okay? I love you."
Before Lesley could respond, the call was ended.
She felt her heart beat faster upon hearing those words.
Maybe he only loves me as a bestfriend.
Lesley sighed, flopping on her bed, holding her phone to her chest. Her heart was still beating fast.
Oh yeah, only few knew that she was the best friend of the famous hearthrob singer, Gusion Paxley. They were best friends since their childhood. Last year, Gusion was scouted by someone, who was his manager now and trained him to be an idol.
He got a lot of fans immediately, even before he became a singer. Gusion was very popular to girls, thanks to his looks and talent.
Many were so envy of her for being close to Gusion, she even got bullied when they were in grade school. Thanked God Gusion was always there to save her.
Since they were so close, yes, cliché as it sounded, she fell in love with her best friend.
She knew it was impossible for Gusion to reciprocate her feelings because she knows she was just a best friend, nothing more, nothing less.
Lesley was contented by just being a best friend, at least she had a place in Gusion's life.
But it was painful on her part, thinking it would remain as one sided forever. It really hurt to see articles and news about Gusion being paired to other female idols, when he sang with other female singers. She didn't know if it was only for fan service or what but it still hurt her.
Lesley was pulled from her thoughts whe she heard her phone beep.
It was a text from Layla.
"Hey Les, have you already listened to Gusion's song?"
Lesley shot up from her bed, "Oh yeah, I nearly forgot about the song."
She browsed her phone again to search for the song and was about to tap the play button when she heard a piano.
Lesley frowned. A piano? But there's no piano in this house!
"How do I get close
When she looks like an angel
A moment of her time just seems impossible to me"
Lesley frowned even more. That was Gusion's new song. She remembered the first line that Gusion sang a while ago.
What confusing her was that the music sounded like from in front of their house. She walked towards her window.
"It's hard to find the words to get to know this stranger
I'm scared of what she'll say if what I say sounds incomplete"
Lesley opened her window...
"And it feels like we belong together Can someone tell me where do I start?"
...to see Gusion, singing, in front of her house, with a band, lots of fans and even reporters!
Lesley put both of her hands on her mouth as she gasped. Am I dreaming? Why didn't I hear some commotions a while ago? There are lots of people here!
Gusion smiled at her as he continued to sing.
"Cause I can't keep on feelin' the way I do
I can't keep on hiding my heart from you
I got to say something before someone else comes through
I can't keep on loving you
From a distance"
Lesley didn't know she could be more shock upon hearing the chorus.
Gusion grinned at her, "Can you come down here?"
Lesley felt her mind was floating as of the moment, she even didn't know how and when she got down. The next thing she knew, she was already in front of Gusion.
The band continued to play, flashes of camera surrounded them and she could hear the screaming of Gusion's fans.
"W-why?" That was the only word that came out from Lesley's mouth.
Gusion smiled sweetly at her, putting some locks of her hair behind her ear. "Isn't it obvious? I am madly, deeply in love with you Les. It was a blessing in disguise we became best friends. Honestly, if you didn't approach me first when we were kids, I doubt that we will become friends. Haven't you heard the first stanza of my song?"
Lesley gasped, "You wrote that song?"
Gusion scratched the back of his head with a shy smile, "Yes, when I realized I'm in love with you. You see, I already had a crush on you when we were still kids."
"I slipped when we were talking earlier though." Gusion continued. "So, any response? Violent reactions?"
"Silly. I was sulking in my room before you pull this off. I thought it was one sided all along."
Gusion looked at her, with hopes in his eyes. "You mean–?"
"I love you too, you idiot." Lesley smiled at him.
Gusion was stunned for a while, before hugging her and Lesley squealed when he lifted her!
"I'm not dreaming right? You said you love me too! Tell me it is real." Gusion said.
Lesley smiled and roped her arms around Gusion's neck. "I know the feeling Gus. But yeah, it's real. I love you."
Gusion put her down, one of his arms snaked around her waist and the other at the back of her head. He gently pulled her for a kiss.
She was frozen for a while, but then she smiled and answered his kisses.
They didn't mind the cheering and flashes of camera around them.
They pulled from the kiss eventually, gasping for air.
Gusion leaned on Lesley's forehead, planting a soft kiss there, before leaning his forehead to it.
"I love you Lesley Vance. Damn, I finally said it."
Lesley chuckled, "I love you Gusion Paxley."
Gusion smiled, "Finally, you're mine now." Gusion hugged her and whispered to her ear. "Mine. All mine."
She smiled, his possessiveness made her feel so giddy. "Yes, I'm all yours."
Gusion hugged her tighter. "And see, I told you, I'm gonna sing the song for you, live."
Lesley laughed out loud, and people around them were curious on what Gusion said to her.
