One Shot 26.1: Male Lead, Please Don't Notice Me!
Another result of me getting hooked into isekai manhwas HAHAHA.
=====
Ah, I think it's my time again. Lesley thought as she put down her phone while laying on the hospital bed.
She could already feel the slowly beating of her heart and the slight difficulty in breathing. She could feel her soul was struggling— just like what happened in her previous life.
Yes, this was already her second life. And unfortunately, she would lived her second life as short as her first life.
Lesley didn't know why, but she couldn't pass the age of twenty five.
She died in an accident in her first life, and now she would die because of heart disease.
Lesley sighed. If ever she would be reincarnated for the third, she wished she would have a peaceful and longer life.
She lifted her phone once again and opened it to the application where she was reading a novel.
Ah, it's good that I already finish this novel before I die.
She smiled upon remembering the main couple of the novel she read. Though many didn't expect that they would end up together, they deserved a happy ending.
"Sis, do you want to rest now?" She heard her little brother asked her.
She nodded.
Her little brother held her hand, "Rest well, Sis. Please remember that I will meet you again, don't worry."
Lesley didn't understand what her little btother meant but she still had the smile on her lips when her arm fell on the bed and she took her last breath.
=====
"My lady, it's time to wake up!"
Five more minutes. She thought but then she felt someone opened the curtains and window, blinding her although she had her eyes closed.
"Did you sleep late again because you were reading, my lady? The sun is already up. Please wake up. Breakfast is already being served at the dining room. Marquess and Marchioness are already waiting, also Lord Harley."
Huh?
Because of confusion, she opened her eyes and saw a maid smiling at her.
A red-haired maid— and she looked very familiar!
"Irithel?" She blurted when she saw her.
"Yes, my lady?" Irithel smiled at her.
Her eyes widened as she sat on the bed. And her eyes got bigger when she saw her hair sprawled on the bed.
Magenta, long hair!
She stood out of panic and quickly went in front of the mirror.
Purple eyes, pointed nose, small yet perfectly shaped lips, a mole under her right eye, and long magenta hair.
(A/N: I used her portrait in MLA because it has higher quality and Lesley really looks beautiful with a beauty mark under her right eye!)
"Lady Lesley?" She heard Irithel call her, probably she was confused by her actions.
Lesley facepalmed.
I know I'm Lesley too in my second life but I didn't know I will be reincarnated as Lesley again in my third life!
And what worse was that—
This Lesley that she reincarnated to was a supporting character turned evil in the last novel that she read before she died in her second life!
=====
Okay, let's stop panicking first. Apparently, I'm reincarnated as Lesley Vance— the supporting character in the last novel I read before I died in my second life. Lesley thought.
Lesley Vance is the daughter of Marquess Herald Vance and Marchioness Kimberly Vance, she also had a little brother named Harley Vance. They were on the county where the Vance Household were managing the port in the Southern Paxley Kingdom.
Despite being in a small county, the Vances were quite rich because they managed the port, which was the entry and exit point of Paxley Kingdom to the neighboring country in the south.
The Paxley Kingdom were divided into five— North, South, East, West, and the Center or also known as the Capital.
The first four parts were granted to the four princes of the kingdom— North to Crown Prince Gusset, East to Second Prince Geyser, West to Third Prince Gust, and South to Fourth Prince Gusion. All of them were given the title Grand Duke because they were princes and ruled the said parts at the same time.
The rest of the royal family were in the capital.
"Lesley, don't you like the food?" Her mother asked her.
She didn't notice that she was staring at her food for a long time, "I like it, Mother. I'm just still sleepy."
"You stayed up late again last night. I can see the bags under your eyes from here." Her father commented.
Lesley just gave them an awkward smile and started eating so they wouldn't ask her anymore.
She saw that her little brother, Harley gave her a smile. And she didn't know why, but she automatically smiled at him too.
=====
Okay, let's have a recap of the novel that Lesley read before she died in her second life.
The novel's title— Fated to You— was about the fourth prince and the Grand Duke of Southern Paxley Kingdom, Gusion Paxley, and the daughter of Marquess Baroque Guinevere Baroque.
The Baroque Household owned the diamond mining in the Southern Paxley Kingdom, making them the richest marquess family in the south. Although the Southern Paxley Kingdom's land were almost barren- dry lands because of hot temperature, it was quite hard for the Southern people to have crops so they mainly import from the East and West of the kingdom— as well as in the neighboring country in the south.
The Vance Household owned the port in the south, and despite being near the ocean— the land in there was abundant— making them the largest supplier of goods in the south.
Guinevere was an extrovert- she was very friendly so she had many friends not only in south but all around the Paxley Kingdom. She made a lot of friends when they attended the debut party in the Capital.
So it was not surprising that she made friends with Lesley, who was really an introvert. She rarely went outside— except when she wanted to go to the biggest library in the South, which was already rarely used by the people of the same age as her since they were all busy practicing magic and their energies.
Despite being born from a mage family, Lesley was not born with mana which was required to use magic. Instead, she had a very low amount of special energy— making her body fragile.
People in the Paxley Kingdom were grouped into three categories aside from their standing in the society— the mages who used mana, the esprits who used special energy, and the ordinarius who couldn't use neither.
However, Guinevere was special because she could still used magic despite not using a mana. It made her unique that perked not only Gusion's interest, but the whole royal family.
Because of her condition, Lesley buried herself in books and the only time she attended the party was the debut party in the capital.
This also made Guinevere to visit her occasionally in their household. One time, Guinevere brought Gusion along and that was their first time to meet.
This reached the other noble daughters' ears who admired Gusion. Because of that, when Guinevere invited her in a tea party, the noble ladies who were also friends with Guinevere— Angela, Selena, Karina, and Miya bullied her without Guinevere knowing.
And because Lesley was an introvert, she had a weak mind. They easily influenced her, making her little amount of special energy to become dark energy. When Guinevere saw them, she tried to help Lesley but the latter released a large amount of dark energy, almost killing Guinevere.
It made Gusion very angry and no one defended Lesley instead, the four noble ladies even pointed her as the culprit. Guinevere couldn't defend Lesley because she was in coma.
In the end, Gusion banished Lesley to the neighboring country in the south. But because Lesley was very loved by her family, they chose to be banished with her and sailed to the neighboring country in the south.
However while sailing in the ocean, a storm appeared, making their ship sunk, killing the whole Vance family.
Ah, I remembered reading that, it made me cry for a week. How could the author mercilessly kill the whole family of supporting character? Being banished was already too much then decided to kill the whole family! Lesley thought.
It was only when Guinevere woke up the misunderstanding was cleared. She cried out of guilt, Gusion was also guilty for a short period of time then he executed the families of the four noble ladies.
But of course, Lesley was only a supporting character so eventually they forgotten about her and the main couple got their happy ending.
"Ah, I don't want to die again!" Lesley shouted in her room while punching the pillow.
She must do all her might not to have the same ending happen to the original Lesley. She must passed the age of twenty five this time. It was her first time to live a luxurious, peaceful life and she intended to keep it no matter what.
She sat up on her bed and tried to list down mentally all of things she must do to avoid that unfortunate ending.
First, being friends with Guinevere is unevitable but I must prevent her from visiting here from time to time so she wouldn't visit me with Gusion.
Second, I must not show them that I have a weak body. So Guinevere wouldn't be worry about my condition so she wouldn't visit frequently.
Lastly, let's avoid Grand Duke Gusion. Although the original Lesley only met Gusion twice— let's not meet him at all.
Lesley pumped her fist. Alright, let's do that!
Determined to change her fate this time, Lesley grabbed her hat and went outside the household.
Before she could go outside, she saw that Harley was having his magic lessons and saw her.
"Sis!" He called her with a big smile plastered in his face. He ran towards her.
Harley quickly hugged her which returned, "Where are you going?"
"Where else? To the South Library of course." She answered and ruffled his hair.
"Why bother going to the library when we have our own library here?" Harley pouted.
She chuckled, "I want to read other books, Harls. I also want to see other people. I already memorized all of thw faces here in the household."
"Then let me go with you."
"You still have magic lessons."
"I already knew them. I'm a mage genius."
Lesley laughed out loud and pinched his cheeks, "I know that my baby brother is amazing but you still need to attend the lessons or else Mother and Father will scold you and make your hair in its bad form."
With that, Harley pouted. "Fine, but at least go with Irithel."
"Then who would cover for me here?" Lesley put her forefinger in front of her lips and winked. "Don't worry, I'll be back before everyone notice it. Bye baby brother." She kissed his hair before leaving.
Lesley was skipping on her way to the library. This would be her hideout away from Guinevere and Gusion. She told Irithel not to tell everyone that she was in the library.
"Hello Mr. Estes!" Lesley cheerfully greeted the librarian.
"Lady Lesley, welcome." Estes greeted her back with a smile. "You have the library all by yourself again."
"That's great! Thank you Mr. Estes!"
Lesley noticed that Estes was looking at her as if he was observing her.
"Mr. Estes?" She called him.
"Sorry, my lady. I just noticed your aura, it's glowing brightly." He gave her a smile.
That made Lesley confused. All esprits had aura surrounding them. The brighter the aura, the larger amount of special energy the have.
"I think that's impossible, Mr. Estes. I was born with little amount of special energy." Lesley said.
"I think you are finally where you are meant to be." Estes said, "Happy reading, Lady Lesley."
It made Lesley more confused but she said her thanks nonetheless before going to the shelves.
She whisked away the thought and searched for a book that she would read.
When she found a book, she swifly sat on the floor and leaned on the bookshelf. She didn't bother to sat on the set of tables and chairs in the library because she was more comfortable reading in the pathway between bookshelves.
She didn't know how long she was reading when she felt sleepy. Lesley knew her mind was tired from too much thinking earlier.
Let's sleep for few minutes. Lesley thought as she closed her eyes.
Lesley didn't know how long she was asleep but she heard faint voices around her.
"Your Grace, you don't really need to go here with me. And the library you have at the mansion is bigger than this."
"Is it wrong for me to visit the Southern Library? I just want to check if it's still in good condition."
"No one uses this library anymore. Maybe we should donate the books and convert this building into another school."
"I heard Estes said earlier that there is one person who frequently reads here. I will not close this library."
Who are those? So noisy. Don't they know the rules in the library? Lesley thought as she slowly fluttered her eyes opened.
She slowly looked at the window and saw that the sun was almost setting.
Oh shoot, how long did I sleep? Lesley thought and quickly fixed herself.
She grabbed the book she was reading beside her and put on a bookmark before closing it. She would just borrow it from Estes.
Lesley heard footsteps nearby so she planned to leave immediately before someone saw her. She was about to get up when she saw a hand in front of her.
She slowly looked up to see who offered her a help to stand and just like in novels she read, time seemed to stop to see that person.
Brown hair, a pair of teal eyes, sharp jaw, pointed nose, thin yet perfect lips- the most handsome in this novel world— Grand Duke Gusion Paxley.
Her eyes widened upon realization.
Oh my goodness, what is he doing here? We aren't suppose to meet until Guinevere introduced him as her fiancé to me!
"Why are you sitting on the floor, my lady? There are many chairs here." Gusion said while still offering his hand for her to get up.
Lesley gasped as she got a hold of herself. She quickly got up without accepting Gusion's hand.
She did a curtsy and lowered her head to avoid his gaze, "Greetings, Your Grace. I'm sorry that you see me sitting on the floor."
"Why are you saying sorry for sitting on the floor?" He asked.
"Uhh... Because it's not pleasant to your view?" Lesley answered, unsured of what she was saying.
There was a moment of silence before Lesley heard a soft chuckle. Out of shock, she looked up to the Grand Duke to see that he was chuckling!
Why is he laughing? He is cold towards people and he only warms up to Guinny!
Gusion must have noticed that she was looking at him so he gave her a small smile before swiftly reaching for her hand.
It was too fast that Lesley didn't have time to react. All she knew that Gusion was already kissing the back of her hand.
Lesley knew it was just a form of greeting but she couldn't help but to get flustered.
My goodness! As expected to the male lead! Good job, my child! Now, let me leave because you are meant to be together with Guinny!
She gave him an awkward smile before pulling her hand away a little. The grand duke seemed surprised with her action.
"I apologize, Grand Duke but I must hurry to go home. It was nice to meet you, Your Grace." She did a curtsy to Gusion, as well as to his assistant— Granger— who was standing on the back.
She quickly walked towards Estes and placed a silver coin for borrowing the book.
I just hope this won't change the plot entirely. I just want a peaceful life, come on! Lesley thought as she quickly went home.
However, back in the library...
"Your Grace, did you see that?" Granger— his assistant— asked Gusion.
Gusion sighed, "Well, of course. Who wouldn't?"
That overwhelming comforting aura around her...
Gusion raised his hand to his nose and lips— the hand that he used to hold the lady's hand earlier— while looking at that lady's figurine while walking away from the library.
No one saw the small smile playing in his lips.
=====
"Good morning, my lady!"
Lesley groaned in frustration as she hugged her pillow tighter.
"Come on, sleepy lady, wake up! The weather is good today!" Irithel said energetically as she opened the curtains.
"Why do you have so much energy everyday, Iri?" Lesley murmured in her pillow.
"I feel energetic whenever I'm with you, my lady. Your presence is very comforting and I feel recharge everytime!" Irithel said with a big smile.
Ugh, maybe this is the reason why the original Lesley's energy was depleting. Lesley thought as she slowly get up.
She didn't feel weak though, she was just really sleepy.
"Come on, my lady. You have to get up." Irithel encouraged her.
Irithel was the daughter of baron family that owned a forest. Unfortunately, that forest was burned down and her parents died, leaving Irithel and her pet saber-toothed tiger alone. She was only five years old when that happened, and thwy had no relatives to manage the area.
So Lesley's parents decided to keep Irithel in the household. They were about to adopt her but Irithel refused, saying she wanted to keep her family name and she wanted to serve the family as a repayment for caring her.
Of course, her parents was against with Irithel serving them but she insisted.
But really, Irithel was really like a family to them now.
"Lady Guinevere is already waiting for you at the dining area with your family." Irithel added.
"What?" Lesley's eyes widened, "She's here? Is she alone?"
Confused by her questions, Irithel nodded, "Yes, she's alone. She arrived a few minutes ago."
Lesley released a sigh of relief before standing up, "Thank goodness. And Iri."
"Yes, my lady?"
"It's not only my family. It's our family. You're part of our family. Please remember that." She smiled at her.
Irithel seemed taken a back before smiling at her. "I will."
=====
"Lesley!"
Lesley should have expected that kind of greetings from Guinevere but she was still startled by her high pitch voice.
Curly light brown hair, her signature violet ribbon, blue eyes, small nose and lips, and violet dress— Guinevere Baroque was really a female lead material.
"I miss you!" Guinevere exclaimed and gave her a tight hug. She was slightly shorter than her but it didn't made her less beautiful.
"Are you okay? Do you have any hard time adjusting?" Guinevere added and looked at her.
Lesley frowned at her questions, "I feel... normal? Why?"
She gave her a wide smile, "Great! Now let's go." She said and pulled her to the table.
"Good morning Sis!" Harley greeted her when she sat and kissed her cheek.
"Good morning baby brother." She greeted back and kissed his hair. "Good morning, Mother and Father."
"Ah, it feels good now that you're here Lesley." Guinevere said when she also sat, "Finally."
That made Lesley confused, "Did I make you wait for too long?"
"Yes!" Harley answered.
Lesley sighed at their exaggeration, "Sorry for oversleeping then."
Guinevere and Harley exchanged looks before they giggled.
Are they hiding something from me? Lesley thought as she looked at the two.
The two of them looked at her and smiled at the same time.
Yep, definitely. Lesley thought. But she wouldn't pry anymore. She wanted her mind to rest from thinking.
"By the way, Lesley." Guinevere said after they ate. They were now walking around the garden with Harley, "I'm having a tea party next week. I'm inviting you." She said while handing the invitation.
Lesley was hesitant to accept the invite, "Ah Guin—"
"Please?" She gave her a puppy eyes.
"There will be no man in that tea party, right?" Harley asked.
"I'm pretty sure my brother Lancelot will be inviting some of his friends." Guinevere answered.
"Then I'm going! I have to protect my sister." Harley pouted.
"Okay okay, you can also go as long as Lesley will attend, okay?" Guinevere said.
Lesley was contemplating; there was a high chance that Gusion would also be there since he was friends with Lancelot.
Alright, time to use the excuse of this weak body.
"I'm not sure Guin. But I'll give you a notice if I can attend two days before the tea party. You know that I have a weak body. Irithel has been monitoring all of my movements." Lesley said.
Guinevere didn't speak for a while before she pouted, "Oh right. I nearly forgot about that. But please, please, come to the tea party if you can, okay?"
Lesley just nodded and gave her a smile. They chatted for a while before Guinevere decided to leave, saying that she needed to attend a tea party at Angela's household.
Oh right, I nearly forgot those noble ladies. They are also friends with Guin. Lesley thought after Guinevere left. There is a high chance that they will be also at Guin's tea party.
She sighed and turned to Harley, "It's almost time for your magic lessons now, Harls. I'll be going to the library again. I'll return the book I borrowed yesterday."
Harley reluctantly nodded, "Alright. Be careful Sis."
"I will." She smiled at him and kissed his forehead.
When Lesley arrived at the library, she was confused when she saw there were a lot of people— working.
"Mr. Estes?" She called the librarian's attention.
"Hello, my lady." Estes went near her and bowed, "I'm sorry but the library is close for today. We are doing some renovation here. You can come again tomorrow."
"Renovation?" Lesley asked and got the book she borrowed, "I'm here to return this."
Estes got the book from her, "Yes, renovation. Mostly on the bookshelves."
"Why? They still look good though."
Estes smiled and motioned her to follow him. She obliged and went to a nearby bookshelf.
"This one's already modified." Estes said before turning a block on the side of the shelf and a leather seat appeared in the bottom of the shelf.
Lesley's eyes widened, "Wow! Now it makes me want more to sit on the floor with that!"
Estes frowned at what she said, "Pardon, my lady? Are you perhaps sitting on the floor while reading here?"
Lesley nodded, "Yes! It's more comfortable and being surrounded by books relaxed me more."
"Did His Grace saw you yesterday?"
Lesley was stunned for a jiffy, "Yes, why?"
Estes shook his head and smiled, "So that's why. It's His Grace orders to modify the bookshelves. He said to put seats at the bottom of shelves."
Her eyes widened, "He did?"
Before Estes could answer, he bowed to someone behind her, so Lesley turned around to see Gusion and Granger.
Startled, she quickly gave him a curtsy, "Greetings, Your Grace."
"Greetings, my lady." Gusion said and he swiftly reached for her hand once again, kissing the back of it.
She softly pulled her hand away and gave him a small smile.
"I'm sorry for the inconvenience but the library is close today because of some renovation." Gusion added.
"Ah, yes. Mr. Estes already explained it to me that it was your order." Lesley said while smiling awkwardly.
"I saw you sitting on the floor and it might uncomfortable for you."
"Thank you for your thoughtfulness, Your Grace. But I'm really fine sitting on the floor as long as I'm surrounded with books."
"You really like reading." Gusion commented.
That made Lesley genuinely smile, "Yes, Your Grace."
Lesley thought that she shouldn't add any explanations so she could cut their conversation now. This was the second time that they already meet and it should be stopped if she wanted a peaceful life.
"My library at my mansion is bigger and has a lot more books than here." Gusion said and handed her an envelope, "This is an access to my mansion and library. You can go there anytime."
Lesley gaped and her eyes widened, "Your Grace! This is too much. I can't- I can't accept this. I'm already contented reading here. Renovation of the library is more than enough—"
"I insist." Gusion cut her, "And I don't take no as an answer, my lady." He said before pulling her hand to kiss the back of it again, "I'll be leaving first. I just swing by here to check the renovation. I hope to see you again, my lady."
He put the envelope in her hand before he let go and left with his assistant.
Lesley was still shocked of what just happened. She absentmindedly stared at the envelope in her hand.
Everything was not going according to her plan.
No! I want a long and peaceful life! Male lead, please don't notice me!
