Part 9

The genin had all managed to complete the compulsory jutsu in under a day, feeling extremely proud of themselves. Especially Naruto, his teammate's had underestimated him but he pulled through for them and worked his hardest.

The bear had been their first kill and though the genin acted mostly on instinct at the time, the reality of their situation was starting to kick in. They had made their first kill, albeit an animal. They were stuck in a forest with all kinds of deathly creatures for a month and it was soon time for them to split up which made all this so much harder. The trio had worked near perfect with each other in killing the bear and now they had to face creatures perhaps worse than that all on their own.

The thought alone was frightening and the action itself was simply terrifying but somewhere in the genin, they felt bravery and strength, the courage to take on the test and prove themselves worthy of team 7 - But the fear truly did outweigh some features.

The three stood in their sphere and took a deep breath. They had studied the instructions of their own jutsu's for hours beforehand and finally felt ready to go out and practice it.

Before heading out, the genins had exchanged notes and some advice informing them how to survive to which the team eagerly took in.

They said their goodbyes and slowly disembarked on their own adventurous month of hell and leaped away in opposite directions.

Sakura had been afraid she may never escape this nightmare and only wished she would see her family and friends again but knew if she ever did survive, she wouldn't be the same. No matter what any of them could do, at the end of this month, they would all be different. Exposed to new experiences, to the reality and cruelty of Mother Nature.

Sasuke held his confident stride until his teammates were out of sight before sagging his shoulders. He wished the best of luck to his comrades, they had become the closest thing he had to family and he'd hate to see that killed off too.

Sasuke's relationship with team 7 was strange, he felt hatred toward the team, annoyance and really any other negative emotions but in a way, they also filled a hole he had kept empty and guarded for so long, without him even knowing it. It made him angry to be tricked like so, but the feeling had washed away the anger and filled him with warmth. He felt happy, for the first time in a long time. But though this life was a peaceful and happy life he lived, it'd soon change. Not only because he still needed to avenge his clan but because by the end of this month, he would truly be exposed to the real world. The bear would be his first kill but his first human kill would come soon enough and even though it sickened the boy thinking about taking an innocent life just as Itachi had done. He needed to become stronger, for his clan. That said, he pumped more strength into his legs and ran faster to a secure location where he could set up camp and start training.

Naruto had been completely lost from the second he turned his back. He too had leaped away but without any sense of direction whatsoever. The boy was clumsy and left marks wherever he went, easily letting any hunting animal zero in on his position.

The blonde had found a quaint little lake with a small island in the middle and a tree leaning against the air on it.

He had gathered wood, sticks, and grass beforehand and swam over to the island, hauling the supplies high above his head. Strangely, he felt movement against his legs for a moment but left it to his imagination playing with him and stepped onto the island.

The blonde started building an extremely atrocious excuse for a shelter.

A few large pieces of wood layered against each other representing a roof while leaves and grass covered the ground in an attempt for a bed. Two large leaves covered the front and back of the 'roof' making a door or window of sorts.

Naruto set his fists on his hips and puffed out his chest, feeling pride flow through him at his first attempt ever at building a shelter.

The atmosphere had become damp from all the water around him so he unzipped his jacket and tied it around his waist, leaving him in a plain white shirt with the leaf symbol on the front.

Naruto thought over his jutsu again and the hand signs and felt thankful he had found the lake since his jutsu needed water and he had quite the dry mouth to even think about using saliva at this point.

Taking a large gulp of water into his mouth and performing the hand signs, he focused his chakra and burst water out of his mouth.

Though it seemed, he must've done something wrong as water had come out in a cylindrical bullet-like form but had simply fallen out his mouth like drool.

'Obviously' The boy thought. He hadn't put enough pressure on his blow.

He tried again and this time using so much pressure in a breath, the blonde had gone slightly purple.

The ball of condensed water burst out the boy's mouth and landed about a meter in front of him. He collapsed to his knees, gasping for air and breathed out sadly at the lack of progress he was making. He thought about how his teammates were doing with their training but didn't have long to think as a large hazel coloured snake slithered its tail around Naruto's foot, the genin yelped and tried grabbing for a branch but missed and was pulled toward the snake's scaly head where it's fangs were ready to plunge into him.

Sakura was having a tough time with her Jutsu as she was tasked with medical ninjutsu, yet to practice that, she needed something alive or dead. Which meant the pink haired flower needed to go hunting.

She had silently worked her way around the area looking for anything small to catch when she was lucky enough to find a rabbit's nest, inside were four small fluffy little rabbits.

The pinkette smiled at the four and grabbed for one, sure it was cruel to experiment on a baby rabbit but nature was cruel and she needed to become stronger.

The rabbits were quite the fast little hoppers as they kept escaping her grasps and swiftly jumped out the nest, onto Sakura's head, as she was made to eat dirt, and back onto the ground.

Sakura, now agitated, hurriedly turned to catch the little critters but was interrupted as a massively large rabbit foot blocked her way.

She looked up and nervously smiled at the momma rabbit who, even though naturally a herbivore, looked very much like a carnivore at this point.

Sakura thought of the only reasonable thing to do before smiling, turned tailed and sprinting away. Momma rabbit took chase which caught the attention of Sakura as she heard the loud thumping against the ground rapidly nearing her. She thought over the survival percentage she had if she faced the beast head on and did not like the chances of survival.

She decided to throw out a smoke bomb, blinding the rabbit as Sakura jumped behind a tree, climbing up it and crawling across a branch so she could overlook the rabbit. The grey-haired beast shook its fur and rubbed its snout, looking around its surroundings for the pink flower.
Sakura took the chance and held out a bomb tagged kunai. She jumped down just as the creature looked up and sliced down the rabbit's throat, tearing a large gash across its neck. The beast wailed in pain before Sakura finished its painful death by throwing the tagged kunai into the open neck wound, blowing the head off as the body collapsed to the floor.

Sakura stood still and stiff, staring down at the rabbit who had only tried to protect its young. She had killed something innocent for an experiment.

The pinkette crumpled to the ground in tears. She knew what she had done and she knew what she still had to do, her job was far from done. Hating herself, she picked out a kunai from her weapons pouch and started her search for the four baby rabbits. Their bodies were the only ones she could even think of working on at the moment, she needed a small body to practice on. Tears continued to fall down her disheveled face when she found the group gathered together in a small den.

Sasuke had been given the short straw of the three. As soon as he set out to find a secure area to set up camp, multiple beasts came chasing after the Uchiha. It seemed he had shifted toward the wrong area of the forest he had thought to himself as he was currently being chased by a pair of bears for accidentally stumbling upon their den which had multiple cubs in it.

The raven-haired boy swiftly threw his wires across the trees and surrounding area as the bears leaped straight into it and roared at the boy who dared face them head-on. The boy took a deep breath and performed Raiton no jutsu: Shottogan (Lightning Release: Lightning Shotgun) onto the wires, small bolts of lightning burst from the thread, onto the Bears, stunning them for only a moment but a moment was all the Uchiha needed to plunge a kunai into one the beast's head and jumping away just as the others claw clamped down at him and it's dead partner.

Sasuke felt a pang of guilt for taking away the bears partner but he was taught to defeat an enemy he had to use any weakness he could against them and to defeat them as quick as possible.

Sasuke focused his attention on the black male bear who was now blinded by rage and charged at the sole Uchiha survivor.

His eyes widened before jumping out the way, though slightly late as he was cut on the shoulder by the bear's large teeth.

Sasuke grunted in pain before throwing multiple kunai at the bear's coat. The kunai had been attached to strings of wire and was still stuck in the bear as it came charging again.

Sasuke rolled out the way, losing his stamina and strength at this point and swiftly performed Katon: Gokakyu no jutsu (Fire style: Fireball Jutsu), blowing the flames across the strings and into the bear's fur, alighting it with fire as the male's skin burnt. In a rage and panic, the monster looked as if it had just jumped out of someone's worst nightmare, before coming after the Uchiha again. Sasuke held up a kunai in a pathetic attempt for last defense as he had no strength left to move out the way.

The bear charged at Sasuke but to the boy's utter relief, the animal collapsed in a mess of flames and singed burnt flesh. Sasuke lowered himself slowly to one knee, eyes wide as he stared at the two corpses before him.

He was grateful for all the wires he bought a day before coming to the forest, with his fire and lightning jutsu's they were perfect to reach the enemy and immobilize them.

Bile rose from the genin's throat as he failed to hold it down and threw up his last meal, the reality of his actions settling in, their cubs were left on their own now. Wiping his mouth, he encouraged himself to get up and find shelter. The man stood up and before leaving. He skinned the female bear poorly and stuffed her dark brown fur into his pack, it could provide a warm coat later on.

Kakashi had watched all three of them with clones from afar, they had exceeded his expectations far beyond what he thought possible. They were hooligans in general but when placed in a dire situation, the trio proved to be useful and extremely vigilant. They had the potential to become ultimate weapons for Konoha and he'd be right there alongside them. Fighting with them.

They had made him proud to teach them and only he could teach them. Any other sensei would've been too easy on them and these kids had far too much potential to be wasted away like that.

Kakashi only hoped they would survive, the Hokage would never forgive him if he lost the village's Jinchuuriki and the sole survivor of the Uchiha clan and of course, Sakura.

Still, they had their whistles if they really needed him.

Sakura and Sasuke had found their secure areas and set up camp.

Naruto was still dealing with the slithery snake. Kunai stuck out in most places of the snake yet it still hasn't died. Frustration gnawed at the blonde as he had plenty of cuts and bruises covering him and had slowed down a considerable amount yet the snake's stamina seemed unending.

The serpent slithered after the boy but luckily he jumped out the way just in time, missing its fangs by inches.

Naruto had used his time wisely and formed a plan.

Waiting for the snake to approach him again, Naruto perfectly performed Futon: Sensougouheki (Wind style: Rumbling wind wall), creating a wall of air In Front of him as the snake crashed into it, the wall cutting into the snake's head slightly before it backed away.

The boy saw the difference in its speed when attacked at the head and grinned. Finally figuring it out.

"You're going down snake!" He exclaimed, pointing his bloody finger at the large reptile who slithered in response.

Naruto ran up a tree, the snake following close behind, and backflipped off it. Landing behind the snake, on its back and performed Futon: Sensougouheki once more, the snake's head-turning only to be sliced into pieces by the wall.

The serpent fell limply to the ground, finally defeated.

Naruto cheered in delight at his victory but also at dinner. Luckily for the boy, he hadn't been nicked by the snake once as the serpent was an extremely poisonous type Naruto examined. It's markings and dripping venom from the fangs saying as much. His clones had been doing a great job at studying in the library every day and that knowledge seemed to have saved his life as he surely would have eaten the head as well, thus bringing forward his own demise.

Now, the trio had found their secure spots and had dug into their hunted dinner before taking short naps throughout the night, staying on guard.
