Part 44
The streets of Konoha appeared to be busy today as Sasuke sat atop a water tank, overlooking the crowds of civilians and ninja going about their day more so than other days.
The wind blew gently through the Uchiha's dark spiked hair as it always seemed to do. Sasuke watched as traces of wind blew through the dirt streets, creating small gusts of dust. The genin narrowed his eyes at the people below before shifting his onyx eyes to the forest, watching the wind blowing leaves around through the peaceful, quiet, atmosphere.
That suited him more.
His eyes trailed away from the forest and over to the loud commotion coming down from one of the busier streets. The Uchiha clicked his tongue as he noticed Ino, Shikamaru, and Choji walking down the street with Ino in the middle and being the loudest as she talked. He couldn't quite hear what the blonde was spouting but didn't care either.
His eyes narrowed in on Shikamaru and what he was wearing. Sasuke scowled as the pineapple-haired chunin walked without care and a small smirk on his face.
It made the Uchiha wonder why they hadn't been promoted yet. With team 7 proving themselves over and over again, maybe the ranking system didn't apply to them? Still...He didn't like the idea of shinobi like Shikamaru looking down on him simply because he was a higher 'rank'.
Sasuke tore his attention away from the three below and focused on simply enjoying the breeze and view of the village.
"Ke" The voice of his blonde teammate suddenly called, breaking the peaceful silence.
Sasuke closed his eyes for a moment, trying to remember the quietness before it left completely, before opening them and looking toward Naruto.
Naruto had a troubled expression as he moved forward and sat down next to the Uchiha, who turned back to the village view. The two sat in silence for another moment before the shuffling of Naruto's clothes could be heard. Sasuke glanced to him to see him shifting to face the Uchiha.
"Ke..." Naruto began, hesitating. His expression was serious which made the Uchiha slightly nervous as to what he wanted to discuss. "Where do you think your new goal will lead you?" The blonde questioned before glancing away from the raven-haired boy to overlook the village as he was.
Sasuke stared at his features for a moment, wondering about that himself.
"My new goal..." Sasuke spoke for the first time that day. "I want to bring Itachi back to the village and restore the Uchiha clan in a new light." The youngest Uchiha revealed with a rare soft smile.
Naruto stared at him for a moment before grinning "That wouldn't happen to include Ra would it?" he laughed as he leaned back to avoid the smack upside the head the raven-haired genin was aiming at him.
The two calmed down and Naruto smiled over the village "I can't wait to become Hokage. The first thing I'll change is the amount of ramen stands there are in Konoha. I'll make it so that there has to be a minimum of five ramen stands in the v-"
"You're an idiot, To." Sasuke chuckled.
Naruto rolled his eyes but dropped the topic.
"You know..." The blonde started up again. "It'll probably be a long time before we all see each other again after we leave..." he muttered toward the end, looking down.
"Hmm..." Sasuke hummed in agreement.
"Where will you go?" Naruto suddenly questioned.
Sasuke shook his head "It hasn't been decided who will leave the village yet, To."
"Be realistic, Ke. It most likely will be us. I would go with Pervy-Sage. Sakura would stay here under Grandma Tsunade and you-"
"Either way" Sasuke looked at him as he interrupted "We have to complete our training first before we can leave, remember? that's what Kashi-sensei said."
"I know what he said" Naruto grumbled and crossed his arms.
Sasuke subtly rolled his eyes at the blonde "Come on, we should head to the training grounds early and get some real training in before we start that emotional stuff" Sasuke muttered as he got up and dusted himself off, Naruto following his example.
The two said nothing as they gave one last look at the whole village before disappearing in a whirlwind of leaves, something Kakashi had taught them after months of begging.
___
"Again" Came the same command that's been said over and over for almost two hours now.
Naruto, Sasuke, and Sakura all sat close together as they were put under genjutsu's in order to strengthen their reaction to certain things.
Naruto's genjutsu consisted of being abandoned by his team. A little harsh considering the blonde was the more sensitive one of the group but after the first seven times of going through it, he was finally able to calm himself down enough to think somewhat logically as to why this was happening. The blonde could now figure out that all was not as it seemed as the team abandoned him to save him.
Kakashi changed small details here and there to keep testing his emotional response but otherwise, the blonde kept up well.
At first, Kakashi put Sakura under a genjutsu that consisted of Sasuke rejecting her in a cruel way but after seeing the pinkette only giving a minimal reaction, he pumped it up a notch and placed her under a genjutsu of watching her teammates die while she couldn't perform any medical ninjutsu to save them.
Her reaction to this was a little more severe than that of the boys. As soon as she began sobbing, the genjutsu was released and Kakashi was about to lecture her about her control when she suddenly turned and punched him across the field.
He gave her a break after that...
Sasuke, on the other hand, had easily been able to withstand the genjutsu being placed on him even when Kakashi used his memories against him and re-showed him the genjutsu Itachi had put him under during the massacre.
It seemed his views on the massacre had changed and so, instead, Kakashi placed him under a genjutsu where he had an opportunity to kill Danzo. To say took the chance would be an understatement as the Uchiha massacred the man each time which meant he failed the genjutsu each time.
"Again!" came the frustrated sound of the Jounin.
Sasuke clicked his tongue before breathing out a heavy sigh.
"If you're quite done, Sasuke" Kakashi said with annoyance in his tone.
Sasuke glanced at the Jounin and glared.
"Kakashi!" A voice called from the road leading to the village.
The genin were released from their genjtusu and all four turned to see Iruka coming their way with anger in his eyes.
"Hmm?" Kakashi narrowed his eyes.
"You're torturing them!" Iruka yelled before pulling out a kunai and attacking the Jounin.
Sasuke, along with Naruto and Sakura, was quick to jump in front of their sensei. Sasuke quickly pulled out his own kunai and blocked the attack from the chuunin.
"Iruka, are you out of your mind?" Kakashi questioned with surprise in his tone.
Said man clicked his tongue while glaring down at the three genin "These kids...they're not kids anymore" He muttered.
Kakashi sighed "That's what I've been trying to tell you"
"They're...They're monsters!" He suddenly yelled. Sasuke looked to the side to see Naruto flinching at the name.
Sasuke glowered at the man before them but kept himself under control as the chuunin continued "You're not capable of training these...them any longer. I'm sure the Hokage will accept my request to transfer them to the root...Under Danzo-sama" Iruka snapped before disappearing in smoke.
"Hn. Danzo..." Sasuke muttered with a heavy glare.
Kakashi sighed "Well, it can't be helped. Until I sort this mess out with Iruka and the Hokage, you'll all probably be transferred to Danzo for the time being. Try to behave" The jounin muttered before disappearing as well.
"And so, our journey begins" A mysterious, dark, voice almost whispered from the darkness of the forest.
The three genin swiftly turned around to see a man clad with bandages stepping out of the darkness.
"I'm Danzo" He smirked.
Sasuke felt a shiver run down his back as he looked upon the man that was behind the Uchiha massacre and most likely, a large number of others.
"Danzo...I know what you did." Sasuke growled but briefly wondered why his Sharingan and curse mark wasn't activating.
"Oh, do you? I've done many things boy. Be precise."
"You forced my brother to kill the Uchiha Clan!" Sasuke yelled back, Naruto and Sakura stayed silent as they covered his sides.
Danzo lost his smirk and looked upon the genin with seriousness.
"Then I can't let you live" Danzo seemingly muttered to himself before lunging forward.
It all happened in a blink of an eye as the man struck down Sakura first before sending out a long sword toward Naruto. It struck him in the temple which not even the Kyuubi could heal.
Sasuke hyperventilated as his teammates now lay dead beside him and Danzo slowly stalked toward him.
"You lose." He said as he lifted his arm with a katana in hand, about to slice down on the boy.
"Seriously, you lose Sasuke" Danzo's voice suddenly lost the malicious tone and was replaced by that of his sensei.
The genin blinked his wide, terrified, eyes as the scenery changed. Danzo disappeared and was replaced by Kakashi, who looked down at him with a bored look.
"Wha-?" The Uchiha muttered as he realized he was still in a sitting position with his other two teammates when they were training their emotional reactions.
"When?" Sasuke asked with a glare as he tried calming himself down.
"When I said again...of course" The Jounin has the nerve to smile.
Sasuke grew an irk mark "Pretty strong genjutsu..." He muttered.
Kakashi smiled sheepishly "Well, you weren't reacting enough so I added extra effort" he said as if nothing was wrong with what he did.
Sasuke could only sigh in defeat. It was either that or be disciplined for trying to get revenge and no one wanted that...again.
"Ohayo, Kakashi!" Came the voice of...Iruka.
Sasuke's eyes widened as he remembered the same man in the genjutsu which made him wonder if this was another genjutsu.
To be safe, and unwilling to go through that again at the moment, the Uchiha made the release sign and channeled chakra through but nothing changed.
Kakashi looked down, noticing the boy's panic "Relax, Sasuke. It's purely coincidence" Kakashi stated with his hands in his pockets as he watched Iruka approach.
Sasuke took a deep breath while Kakashi subtly glared at the chuunin for interrupting their training. While the chuunin was a friendly but naive face, everyone knew not to interrupt Kakashi's training as it usually consisted of dangerous methods which could get the genin hurt if they didn't keep focus.
The Jounin left Naruto and Sakura in their genjutsu, hoping Iruka would be quick but as the man looked down at the two still in genjutsu while furrowing his brows, Kakashi knew the man was going to complain about something.
"Ohayo" Kakashi politely greeted back, bringing the chuunin from his hesitant thoughts.
"U-uh, they seem to be focusing really hard if they didn't even notice me." He chuckled "Aren't they supposed to be aware of their surroundings?" Iruka continued laughing as if he just told a big joke, annoying Kakashi and Sasuke to no end.
"Well, you'll have to excuse them. They're under genjutsu right now" Kakashi simply stated.
"E-Eh! Genjutsu? That's really dangerous, isn't it?" Iruka mumbled as he stared at the two.
"You say that as a question. Have you never experienced Genjutsu?" Sasuke spoke up with a mocking look in his eyes.
Kakashi glanced down at the boy and sighed. That was always his problem, looking down on others.
"Aha! Of course, I have" Iruka chuckled nervously while rubbing the back of his head.
Sasuke narrowed his eyes at the chuunin, seeing through the lie.
"Was there something you wanted, Iruka?" Kakashi got to the point. Sasuke's break was already over.
"Ah!" Iruka smiled "I wanted to take Naruto to Ichiraku for some ramen".
Kakashi stared at the chuunin with an unreadable expression "He's busy."
Sasuke rolled his eyes at the interaction and glanced at Kakashi, who noticed his impatience.
"If you'll excuse us, Iruka. We have training to do" Kakashi stated before giving a nod to Sasuke and putting another genjutsu on him.
Iruka watched as he did this and shivered as Sasuke closed his eyes and became still.
"Kakashi..." Iruka mumbled, bringing the Jounin from his concentration...again.
"What is it?" The politely answered.
"Do you really think going this hard on them...taking away any normal aspects of their lives...is going to make them great ninja?" Iruka stared at Kakashi with a mild glare to which the Jounin ignored.
"Yes." Kakashi answered without hesitation "Besides, I'm hardly going 'hard' on them anymore." he finished. It was true, he'd become softer in their training but only for their current emotional training, of course.
"You call putting your own students under genjutsu normal then?" Iruka questioned with a bewildered expression.
Kakashi sighed 'Maybe I ought to speak to Lady Hokage about all these opinions going around about my team'.
Iruka grew annoyed as the man remained silent "I'm telling you, Kakashi. These kids were my students once-"
"Once. I've had to waste time on getting them up to par with a real genin's level before starting actual training." Kakashi snapped, annoyed now. Iruka opened his mouth to retort "Furthermore. They aren't kids anymore. They're ninja." Kakashi interrupted again with a glare that sent shivers down Iruka's spine.
"I-I...see" Iruka simply muttered with a shocked and frightened expression. "I'll leave you to it..." He quickly said and hastily retreated.
Kakashi watched as he went with a shake of his head. He looked down at his charges and wished for a better world where he didn't have to put them under so much strain.
"Oh well...It can't be helped" he muttered and released them from their genjutsu, ready to continue training.
